v anglickém jazyce: This thesis mainly analyzes the five-part novel Gargantua and Pantagruel written by the French author Francois Rabelais. Emphasis is based particularly on an inclusion of Rabelais's work in historical and literary context of the period of transformation between medieval and Renaissance society. More specifically, it deals with the author's humanist opinion and his critique of contemporary society, which is the main line of the work itself. The aim of our thesis is especially an attempt to outline the various possible meanings of the terms « road or path » and « stranger » in Rabelais's work and explain the role of these thematic concepts in the author's concept of criticism of society.

Krize přirozeného světa The crisis of the Life-world PhDr. Klára Holá This doctoral thesis called The crisis of the Life-world is an interdisciplinary theoretical treatise on a problem of the crisis in connection with the Life-world, the main phenomenological issue. The crisis is related to the Life-world itself. The thesis tries to explain the problem of the crisis as a timeless concept ontologically related to a human being, as well as an ethical issue accompanying the development of the modern society. The aim of the thesis is to define the crisis of the Life-world, to describe its symptoms in the various areas, and to outline some possible solutions. To achieve the aim I have divided the conception of the crisis into two meanings which are related to each other: the ontological crisis and the ethical crisis. My hypothesis has proved the ontological crisis unavoidable, as it springs from the ambivalent position of the human being whereas we can balance the ethical aspects in various ways. I have used the comparative and phenomenological method as well as the phenomenological-hermeneutic methods of the text-interpretation. I also used the specific phenomenological method of transcendental epoché. Therefore, I have preferred the interdisciplinary access to this problem. The access can reveal in the...

Kopecká, Pavlína ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Rybák, David (referee)

Behind this intellectual ground have they created the original thesis and approaches to grasping reality, the world and the human being in it. The issue of human being is analyzed in three levels. The first level consists of the relationship between human being and creation, which addresses the question about origin of the world the human soul and the resurrection. The second level, i.e. the man and the world, is devoted to describing a scheme of the world, human knowledge and the theory of prophecy. Ethical and political views are analyzed on the third level, which represents the position of human being in relation to the polis. Keywords Ibn Rushd, Maimonides, Aristotle, Plato, neoplatonism, philosophy, religion, The Koran, Torah, human being, world, creation, eternity, soul, resurrection, emanation, knowledge, illumination, active intellect, prophecy, politics,...

Mazourková, Tereza ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Chalupský, Petr (referee)
This thesis proceeds from the Toni Morrison's novel Sula and it mainly concentrates on a mutual relationship between an individual and society as reflected in the book. It consists of two main parts. The first one describes some aspects of the African-American history; the second one focuses on the individual characters in Sula and analyzes the Bottom society, charted against principles of US society in general. Individuality as the basic point of this thesis is shown as the moving element in the development of the society that also gives the direction of that development. Relationship between an individual and society is considered dialectic - on one hand, particular individuals participate in the development of the society, destroy stereotypes and violate dogmas; on the other hand, these people are often subdued and limited for the sake of the proper functioning of the society. Primary basis of this work is an assumption of the necessity of individual driving elements in the society for its (social) ceaseless development and subjectivism as the basic point of view on human existence. Key words: human being, gender, race, society, subjectivism, womanism.
