Geophysical and gravimetric pattern of Ethiopia, construction, and verification of a new gravity map of Ethiopia
Kuznetsova, Alevtina ; Valenta, Jan (advisor) ; Martínek, Karel (referee)
From a geological point of view, Ethiopia is a unique country where active tectonics displays can be studied, in the context of extensive East African Rift System (EARS) evolution, where the Main Ethiopian Rift (MER) is a part. The Main Ethiopian Rift (MER) is typical continental rift structure spread between the African, Somali, and Arabian lithospheric plates stretching over 6,000 kilometres from Syria to central Mozambique. This study of the gravity pattern in Ethiopia reveals significant crustal thinning in the Main Ethiopian Rift and Northern Afar regions. In the southern Afar, the earth's crust has a slightly higher thickness and, moreover, probably contains a significant proportion of the continental crust. The understanding of crustal thinning in the context of active rifting is essential to predict future geodynamic events in that region, which is crucial for the sustainable life of a rapidly expanding population and the necessary construction of infrastructure. This work provides an analysis and re-interpretation of archival gravity data collected from land surface surveys and airborne gravity studies (archive of Geological Survey of Ethiopia) in conjunction with available geological and structural data to evaluate overall gravimetric pattern of Ethiopia and determine main geological...
Teaching of geology in surrounding of Dubné Primary School & Kindergarten
GOLDFINGEROVÁ, Aneta
As part of this diploma thesis, a teaching program on the topic of geology was created. Its task was to make the teaching of this not-quite-popular topic in elementary schools more enjoyable. The program consists of a block for outdoor studying, consisting of nine activities and associated discussions, and a block for indoor studying, which is designed in the form of five stations where the pupils take turns. Pupils of the 9th grade of ZŠ Dubné tried the program and filled out questionnaires in the form of a pre-test - post-test, which showed that the pupils' knowledge of this topic was very limited before the program and that the program helped them to get a better orientation in the field of geology. Moreover, the pupils unanimously answered that they enjoyed the educational program and would like to experience a similar teaching style more often.
Inductive Tasks Focused on Internal Geological Processes in the Biology Education at the Lower Secondary School (ISCED 2)
Nováková, Miroslava ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Svobodová, Silvie (referee)
The diploma thesis is devoted to inductive tasks in the teaching of biology education at the lower secondary school (ISCED 2) with a focus on internal geological processes. In the theoretical part, the inclusion of the teaching of geology in the framework of the curricular documents of the Czech Republic is elaborated, and it also contains a summary of the forms and methods of teaching often used in the teaching of natural history, including didactic principles. For the empirical part, the goal was defined to positively influence the students' attitude towards the teaching of geology through author-designed inductive tasks focused on endogenous geological events. As part of the first questionnaire survey, pupils' attitudes towards natural history and specifically towards geology and its subthematic units were ascertained. The students identified the lithosphere and plate tectonics as challenging and unpopular topics. Inductive tasks were therefore designed on these two topics from endogenous geology. The tasks are processed in the form of preparations for the lessons, including supporting didactic materials, author's solutions, etc. The tasks were verified in the classroom on a sample of two classes selected from the primary school, a total of 52 pupils. A subsequent questionnaire survey revealed a...
Educational computer game, its creation and use in teaching geochemistry
BARTŮŠKOVÁ, Jenifer
This diploma thesis is focused on the creation and use of educational computer games in teaching geochemistry at the second grade of primary school. The aim of this game is to pass on appropriate knowledge to students in an attractive way, to develop interdisciplinary relations, their internal motivation and key competences. The game is localized in well-known places of Šumava and the player is informed about its local geographical and historical attractions. The theoretical part is based on analysis of professional literature. Findings of this analysis are the theoretical framework of knowledge for the following practical part, in which the educational game is created and verified in practice. The research was conducted online and its results are discussed in the final part of the work. Based on the feedback from the students, possible modifications of the test version of the game were suggested.
Media Image of the Selected Geological Terms from Evolution of the Organisms on the Earth
Bartůňková, Denisa ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The aim of the presented bachelor thesis is to map the media image of 9 selected geological terms related to the topic "Evolution of the Organisms on the Earth" and to analyse an educational potential of selected media texts/articles for teaching process at primary and secondary schools. The bachelor thesis also presents the author's methodology for evaluation of the occurrence and categorization of (geological) terms in media texts/articles selected using the Anopress database. The thesis combinates qualitative content analysis and qualitative research. The research sample includes 115 articles/texts from the 15 most read news websites from the first to third quarters in 2021. The results show that (i) the most frequently mentioned topics in media are recent organisms, geological environment and ecological terms and relationships in a context of the analysed geological terms, (ii) only a small percentage of the analysed articles/texts can be used for teaching process at primary and secondary schools as supplementary studied materials, because most of the articles have mentioned geological terms without further explanation, (iii) Deník.cz has the highest educational potential from the 15 most read news websites. VD Vlachovice - concrete gravity dam
Juriga, Jan ; Šulc, Jan (referee) ; Zachoval, Zbyněk (advisor)
As a part of this bachelor thesis an alternative design of the concrete gravity dam VD Vlachovice was made, to the already design of the earth-fill dam. The design of the outlet works, intake and spillway were also carried out as a part of the study. The introduction of the thesis includes a description of the site and an evaluation of local conditions. The next part deals with the stability of the dam and the load-bearing capacity of the subsoil. Furthermore, the design of the outlet works, intake and spillway were made. A part of the thesis also deals with the transformation of flood by the water reservoir. Finally, drawings and simplified 3D model of the dam were created. The documents necessary for the creation of the work were provided by company AQUATIS a.s. with the permission of Povodí Morava, s.p.
AFTER THE EXTRACTION Atlas of the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin problems and an alternative settlement options
Vicanová, Nela ; Eristavi, Irakli (referee) ; Mitášová, Monika (advisor)
The thesis deals with the research of landscape issues related to coal mining in the Karviná region. The landscape of the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin, which has suffered anthropogenic devastation caused by the extraction of the raw material, faces problems related to the instability of the terrain. Crucial for the research and the project are the data obtained, which determine the thematic location and the investigative and an analytical framework of the project. Using the key data, key questions and risks are formulated. The research extends into geological and landscape themes, determining a re-evaluation of architectural practice in such unstable conditions. The first aim of the thesis is to obtain data for the visualization of stabilized and unstable areas of the landscape after mining based on interviews with experts and map data. Furthermore, this information will be analyzed and interpreted in order to define the area of interest and suggest what the future of the unstable area might be. Finally, the third objective is to propose a new, utopian layer to the existing landscape.
