Myth of Narcissus in French literature at the turn of the 20th Century

Magdalena Kučerová Dissertation work: Myth of Narcissus in French literature at the turn of the 20th century ABSTRACT: This dissertation thesis based on knowledge of French myth criticism deals with the issue of myths in literature, which is a specific manifestation of human symbolic imagination. In its most general level the work studies the definition of a myth and its social function as well as the matter of opposite notions regarding to the mythos and logos, which have gradually more and more differentiated along with the development of European thinking. The myth of Narcissus has probably been one of the oldest myths in European culture. In its most renowned and most comprehensive form, the myth first appeared in the third book of Metamorphoses by Ovid, which has served as an inspiration for remakes by many later authors. The story of a young man who fell in love with his own reflection on the surface of the water contains a great variety of semantically strong structures (mainly the motifs of a mirror, narcissistic love, passively superior character of a hero, or the final metamorphoses into a flower), which are analysed in this study. Jean-Marie Blas de Roblès: Where The Tigers Are At Home a contemporary baroque novel?

(in English): The goal of this dissertation is to demonstrate that the novel Where Tigers Are at Home from the French author Jean-Marie Blas de Roblès belongs to baroque aesthetics. The main terms are explained in the first part and also the formal side of the novel is described there. In the second part then is briefly mentioned the life of the author Jean-Marie Blas de Roblès and the plot of the novel. Chapters concerning the individual baroque characteristics are found in the third part. At the beginning we can find the chapter treating the typification of the characters, following are the chapters about inconstancy, theatre of the world, women in the novel, morbidity and brutality, baroque blending of passion and faith, chapters discussing intertextuality and symbolism and at the end is the chapter dealing with the blending of the author with the novels characters. A specific feature that is found in baroque literature is treated in each chapter and then applied on the text of the novel. After considering all of these baroque features I clearly proved with this dissertation that the novel shows such an amount of baroque features that it belongs to the baroque aesthetics.
Concept of woman in André Breton's works written between 1928 and 1937

This paper explores the concept of women in prosaic writings of André Breton, a key figure of French surrealism. The writings included are Nadja (1928), The Communicating Vessels (1932), Mad Love (1937) and Arcane 17 (1944). To Breton women were those who enable a poet to reach freedom and surreal and he wanted to love and celebrate them. However, many critics see the notion of women in his (and surrealist in general) work as isolated from a real woman, expressing only desires and ideas of a man and giving women only a passive role. In the analytical part of this paper the specific women in Breton's work are examined to evaluate the above mentioned criticism. The aim is to assess how accurate this criticism is. Also, coherence of the Breton's actual portrayal of women and his theoretical concepts is reviewed. Keywords French literature, surrealism, André Breton, woman
Milan Kundera as author of French proses

The subject of this work is the analysis of prose written in French by Milan Kundera, in particular his last three novels La Lenteur (1995), L'Identité (1998) and L'Ignorance (2000). In our analysis we are focusing mainly on the method of construction of his novels, process of characters interpretation and the identification of narrators. These works are compared to Kundera's most architecturally elaborated novel of his Czech creative cycle called Immortality (1993). The goal of this work is to estimate the characteristic of his creative style in French language.
French law juridical institute “fonds de commerce”

The thesis deals with French law juridical institute named "fonds de commerce". The thesis aims to describe what "fonds de commerce" is and how it can be disposed of. As there were not any Czech sources describing "fonds de commerce" at large, I had to use mainly French literature. The structure of the thesis is as follows: At first I briefly describe basic characteristics of "fonds de commerce". Then I focus on its elements. And at the end I deal with the possibilities of disposal, namely the sale of "fonds de commerce", company contribution, collateral and its lease. The thesis does not contain any new findings. It just informs about the "fonds de commerce", which has not been described narrowly in Czech yet. However, because of enormous complexity of studied matter and quite limited space I had to omit many details. The thesis thus offers many possibilities for further extensions.
