Psychological burden of family caregivers of seniors with dementia and its aspects in the family system
Broučková, Eliška ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (advisor) ; Šturma, Jaroslav (referee)
Taking care of seniors with dementia in the home environment can prove itself difficult not only for the individuals burdened with the main caretaking, but it is also challenging for their close family relationships. There is usually some way of sharing the care in the families, where more family members are put into a caregiver's position. Based on the semistructured interviews with the family caregivers this paper describes the alterations of the family relationships and the forms of support between the family members, as well as the common conflicts and rejections. The issue is being described from the point of view of the caregivers with a direct, actual and long-time experience in the home caregiving. Also the data of the interviews has been shortly compared to the information retrieved from the anxiety, depression and burden inquiries, all collected among the respondents. This work deals with the care of people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The aim is to map the social-health care for people with dementia in terms of social policy provisions and from the perspective of informal family caregivers. It is based on the worth and theoretical solutions, which are the theory of de-institutionalization and refamilization and theory of social construction of target populations. The author realized qualitative research to clarify the biggest topics that are encountered in this area. They are mainly problems with financing area in whole complex and the associated availability of social services to patients and their families, as well as local availability and time availability, especially those of local services and capacity in residential institutions. However from the interviews with experts and caregivers results that the individual situations could be always solved somehow and the social assurance system of the Czech Republic is sufficient. The work also refers to the long- term issues of demographic aging population and increasing number of dependent people and follows the conception of the welfare policy of state, which should reflect this trend. In this main and basic area, the author founds a big space for improvement.

Ježková, Kateřina ; Burišková, Klára (advisor) ; Nejdlová, Tereza (referee)
Introduction: The thesis "Alzheimer's disease and department of intensive care" deals with the specifics and difficulties of nursing care for patients with this chronic and degenerative disease in intensive care units (ICUs). The number of patients with Alzheimer's disease is constantly growing and caring for them in such specific wards is extremely demanding. The purpose of this thesis was to map the most problematic areas in the care provided and propose their solution. Methods and results: The empirical part presents the results of a conducted qualitative research which took place in the form of interviews with 10 general nurses who have experience with such patients. Following a word-for-word transcription of the obtained interviews, the results are summarized in a final discussion. They show that when caring for a patient with dementia, general nurses see the main problems in his decreased ability to cooperate, behavioral changes, which often appear as a result of environment change, and difficult communication. They consider the patient's confusion, his negativism, and the inability to find the right words to be communication barriers. This results in enormous demands on the caring staff's patience. The interviewed general nurses however approach patients with dementia generally positively...

Ethics and Power in Social Health Services
Hradcová, Dana ; Holmerová, Iva (advisor) ; Bittnerová, Dana (referee) ; Parry Martínková, Irena (referee)
The following text is an ethnographical study of relations in which care is shaped. On the example of care homes with special regime I describe how power is made and how different ideals are enacted in care of people with dementia. Through the analysis of daily activities' micro practice, I introduce two possible ways (modes of ordering) of care for frail elderly with cognitive impairment. The first of the modes is based on an enactment of ideals introduced into the practice by the Social Services Act and related system of quality standards: autonomy, individualisation, activation, and inclusion. It relies on standardisation of procedures, detailed specification of actions and management by objectives. The second mode of ordering, which could be located in the stories from care homes, is founded on an inevitable human dependency and vulnerability, and on general human need of giving and receiving care. In it, relationships and care improvisation here and now play the key role. My ethnographic fieldwork has shown that in everyday practice these two ways of doing good care co-exist - they complement each other, overlap and sometimes clash. People in care homes, striving for the better and the best care, either keep together, or hold apart these different and non-coherent ways of care. In discourse of...
