Social bodies within queer enterprise

The thesis strives for the anthropological interpretation of the body within queer enterprise. It tries to capture, interpret and understand the processes that form human bodies in this enterprise, in this thesis called Osvěžovna. Osvěžovna can be considered a certain social field within the queer habit is manifested; and as it truned out some sort of "friendly" habit too. With regard to the research landscape and research questions, the main research method is qualitative - participant observation. The main theoretical concept is the division of the cultural dimension of the human body into three structural levels according to Soukup and Balcer. This structure affects the division of thesis itself, which gradually deals with the techniques of the use of the human body and the ways in which the human body in Osvěžovna is modified; the way the human body is disciplined there; and what cultural significance can be found in Osvěžovna. This division is supplemented by the level of consumption. In conclusion are these findings summarized and there is also confirmation that these structural levels of the human body are very often intertwined. That points the integrity of the body culture system in Osvěžovna. Key words body; queer; anthropology; discipline; habitus

Crossfit Body, Habiitus and Lifestyle

This paper is concern on defining the term "habitus" within crossfit. Crossfit is new sport phenomena which is differently accepted in sport society. It can be supposed that due to its specifics crossfit is attracive for specific group of people and crossfit can be considered as a part of style aferwards. The theoretic part is based on assumptions of Marcel Mauss, who defined habitus as aspects of culture which are embodied to body throw daily practiques and resulted in acquired abilities, Pierre Bourdieu, who connected habitus with terms as capital, social field and style, and Loic Wacquant, who added the dimenstion of bodily capital, which concrete form can be seen as projection of culture values. By way of enthnography, and followng interviews these research questions are supposed to be answered: How does crossfit habitus look like? How is reproduced? Which life style can be associated with crossfit? How can be crossfiters characterized in social space?

Unusual Spiritual Experiences in the context of Occulture

This work studies the environment of contemporary alternative spirituality in the Czech Republic, specifically unusual spiritual experiences and techniques for inducing them. It is based on long-term field research utilizing the method of participant observation carried out primarily in the environment of neo-shamanism, but also the use of psychedelics, dark therapy, and other movements and practices. I perceive and analyze these practices both as psychotechnologies - i.e. techniques through which their users strive to alter their thinking - as well as spiritual techniques aimed at establishing and cultivating a relationship with the spiritual world. The focus of this study is a comparison of neo-shamanism and other practices in three main aspects: the induction of experiences, the connection between spiritual experiences and the actor's life as a whole, and the changes in the perception of reality brought about by long- term practicing. I point out that in all these areas, techniques traditionally thought of as closely related exhibit fundamental differences. Gastronauts of Eastern Europe: Experiencing and Digesting Luxury Gastronomy in the Czech Republic

This dissertation is based on a research of luxury gastronomy conducted in two luxury restaurants in Prague. The main focus of analysis is on gastronomic experience as an affective commodity and a vehicle of social, economic and political transformation. The study examines how affect is produced, commodified and how value is generated in luxury "experiential gastronomy." It also analyzes the role of affect in transformation of individuals, the society, consumption practices, entrepreneurial practices, and labor. It shows how experts on gastronomy educate the public on appropriate consumption practices and eating habits. Eating and dining serve as "technologies of the self" (Rose 2004) through which individual and social health and well-being are achieved. Cultivated affect becomes a vehicle of the "purification from socialism" (Eyal 2003) and also plays an important part on the formation of ethical consumer and citizen (Muehlebach 2011). No Grain, No Gain: Vegan Athletes' Self-Perception of Corporeality

This thesis deals with the corporeality of vegan athletes. It aims to clarify how the members of a specific vegan athlete community perceive their corporeality. It also describes the corporeality shaping process and how the process is affected by the community and by the shared body practices - mainly vegan diet and sports activities. The main concepts concerning this issue are habitus, embodiment, and the mindful body. This thesis's key ideas derive from Merleau-Ponty's views on corporeality, Csordas' embodiment, and Scheper-Hughes's and Lock's mindful body, which provided an analytical framework for this research. The research highlighted the importance of a strong community, which vegan athletes build. They can then act on the bodies of the community members and thus make bodies presenting veganism as sufficient. It is a sport that plays a crucial role in this, as it keeps bodies healthy and makes them strong. Sport thus functions as a defense for their practices, which are in the community's eyes the right way of living and respond to the current environmental crisis and immoral abuse of animals. Ayahuasca neo-shamanic habitus in Czech Republic or what one has to do for becoming an ayahuasca neo-shaman

This diploma thesis deals with what one must do in order to become an ayahuasca neo-shaman, or what specific ayahuasca neo-shaman habitus one must acquire in order to be considered a neo-shaman and to be able to perform ayahuasca rituals. For this the author used methods of carnal ethnography and autoetnography. Ayahuasca rituals are embedded in a broader anthropological theory of rites of passage and are examined in the framework of carnal ethnography by the method of observed participation, while semi-structured interviews with neo-shamans are used also. As part of the autoetnography, the author experienced a neo-shaman habitus on himself, which allowed him to easily look into the otherwise non-transferable structure of the neo-shaman habitus. This research has shown that there are three key parts for the ayahuasca neo-shaman habitus, ie the "ecstatic", "didactic" and "material", but their forms are different for each neo-shaman, due to their specific life trajectories. The resulting ritual is then the product of the specific bricolage of each neo-shaman and mixes elements and techniques of different traditions and cultures.
