Business Plan Proposal

Diploma thesis is interested in the business plan of the development of the company of Martin Stříž, who focuses on the publishing of books and other press products. On the basis of the survey of contemporary status and identification of the objective, which is to be achieved, are proposed ways leading to such identified objective. After selecting of optimal options, the financial status and level of demand are evaluated subsequently, and time schedule of individual investments is presented. Finally, potential problems, which can occur after the implementation of the investment are identified, together with linked tasks, which must be further fulfilled (monitoring of development, inspection etc.).

Perception of the "culture wars" concept in American media

American society is going through an era of deep social and political divisions. At the forefront of this deepening divide are the so-called culture wars, an umbrella term for a set of narratives around cultural and social issues that both sides of the conflict use to advance their political goals. This thesis aims to determine how much space culture wars themes occupy in the production of selected American media outlets, how these themes are projected onto their audiences and how this influences the audience's trust in the mainstream media. The first part of the thesis presents the methodology used in collecting and evaluating the data used in the research for this thesis. The theoretical section also defines concepts and terms related to the topic of the thesis. The practical part of the thesis will then focus on the evaluation of the data from the questionnaire survey conducted among American media consumers between May and June 2023.

BookSharing – Mobile Application for Book Sharing

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to create a mobile application for lending books between users. Users can add books to lend and also borrow them from other users, with the option of paying for the loan. The application is developed for the Android operating system using the Kotlin programming language. The application communicates with a server that is also developed in Kotlin using the Ktor framework. The server handles the storage, filtering, and processing of data that are stored in the server database and that are necessary for the proper operation of the application. The application's user interface and user experience were tested with six users and the results were above average.

Does growing up surrounded by books improve our cognitive skills as seniors?

This thesis examines whether growing up surrounded by books has an impact on cognitive skills later in life. Data from SHARE - Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe are used. The variable 'books when ten' is used to determine its effect on variable 'numeracy'. We used also other variables regarding the respondent's age, gender, mental health or family situation. The results of this study show that those who were surrounded by a higher number of books as children perform better at a specific task designed to test cognitive ability when presented with it at an age of over 50 years. The results were obtained using logit model. The finding that access to books can slow down cognitive decline later in life can be used to argue for greater focus on reading and availability of books in schools as well as greater access to books through public libraries, or act as a hint for parents aiming to give their children the greatest possible introduction to life. The Impact and Ways of Using of Lovecraft´s Horror Patterns in Contemporary Cultural Products

Topic of this bachelor thesis stands on cosmic horror, fantasy sub-genre created by Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The thesis starts with introduction with author, said horror, iconic characters, people and mediums. Most of the thesis analyzes various examples of modern production, wich are either adapting Lovecraft´s original works, are inspired by them, or are refering to them in a selected hints. Thus the reader will meet with a wide range of adaptations that are nowdays a key parts of interner, horror and fictional popculture, whereby he will be introduced to the impact and ways of using patterns of Lovecraft´s horror in contemporary cultural products.

Czech media's influence on the book market in 2012

In the introduction of this study I set out the current state of the Czech book market, how it operates, and the results Czech publishers. I also try to find answers to questions about various ethical and moral dilemmas, both in literature and in-person interviews with experts on the topic. The aim is to determine how significant Czech newspapers influenced the book market in 2012. For this I decided to use the analysis of media content, which is firstly explained and followed by a description and comment on the results. Then I will try to show the influence of the media on the book market using the experiment.

The role of the book in evolution of the children's imagination

The master thesis deals with the importance of the book in evolution of the children's imagination. The first part includes short introduction to problems of children's imagination. The second part is engaged in ontogeny of child from prenatal period to the middle childhood and in progress of key competences. It analyzes selected psychological approaches, which had the imagination as a subject of the research. The thesis explains and defines basic terms and processes of the imagination. It deals with a specific phenomenon of the children's imagination and with the evolution of the imagination. The third part introduces typical children's literature, directs on the traditional fairytale and it specifies problems of the literary characters too. It describes the historical development of the Czech book illustration, importance of the illustration in books for children and it also describes children's drawings. The fourth part applies all of previous pieces of knowledges into the work experience in kindergarten. It also describes relations between child and school or child and book. Profile of the Práh Publishing House from Its Inception to the Present

The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to present the Czech publishing house Práh, which is unique among other medium-sized publishing houses in that none of the large publishing houses are behind it, on the contrary, for a long time there was only one person standing behind it. Since it is not possible to separate the person of Martin Vopěnka, the founder of Práh, and the publishing house itself, the introductory part of the first chapter is dedicated to introducing his person and his work not only as the founder and owner of Práh, but especially as a writer. In the next part of the first chapter, the thesis deals with the situation in the field of publishing shortly before and after the establishment of Práh, because the publishing house was established in 1991, two years after the Velvet Revolution, when an inexhaustible number of publishers in Czechoslovakia were founded and disappeared very quickly. It was a wild period for a publishing activity in our country. In other parts, the work is reserved for the Práh publishing house itself, where it first describes the circumstances of its origin, the first years of operation and also the current operation. Liber testium als a source of information for details about the people's life in the royal town Louny at the turn of the 16. and 17. century.

This thesis concerns the Strakonice league, an association of largely Catholic estates of 1449. It tries to conceive the topic in another way, than the older literature did, which did not pay attention to the Strakonice league not specially, but dealed with it mostly in the frame of the description of Bohemian political and military history. The thesis tries to bring new pieces of knowledge of the Strakonice league by means of analyse of correspondence of the lords of Rosenberg (Rožmberk) and of another sources. Concerning the course of the military and diplomatic struggle with the Poděbrady league itself, the emphasis is put on selected, less known aspects. League's attempts to cooperate with the lands adjoining the Czech crown are included, too. The relation of the Strakonice league to foreign countries, where the league was looking for allies, is elaborated in the next section. The last part of the thesis is a prosopographical research of the league members. This section is based on collecting of data about individual persons or towns that entered the Strakonice league. The members' political career, motivation for their entrance into the league, possesion and their relations to each other are studied. Design of bookcase for specific interior

The diploma thesis deals with the design of a free-standing bookcase for a specific customer. The thesis is divided into two main parts – thereotical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the development of bookcases and libraries as well as storing of books, which includes standards, sizing, ergonomics and materials being used for book storage furniture manufacturing. The theoretical part also contains research of the current free-standing bookcases market. The practical part describes a new bookcase design process, all the calculations made for its correct sizing, the bookcase manufacturing itself and a description of materials used for the bookcase production. The practical part also includes a collection of newly designed bookcase visualizations and all production costs.
