Budín, Tomáš ; Vachková, Marie (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
This diploma thesis researchs the collocability of the german adjectives and gives some suggestions for the presentation of the collocability in the microstructure of the adjectival entries in the German-Czech translatory dictionary. The diploma thesis is a secondary product of the project of The Large German-Czech Academic Dictionary which has been realized in the Institute for German studies of the Phaculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague since 2000. The lexicographs use the methods of the corpus linguistics, especially a combination of the concepts corpus-based and corpus-driven. Analogous methods were used in this diploma thesis. By means of the Cooccurrence Data Bank (CCDB) of the Institute for the German language in Mannheim the most frequent cooccurrence partners of an adjectiv were found, concrete dictionary examples were found out in the corpus DeReKo of the IDS Mannheim using COSMAS II or on the Internet using the search engine Google. The dates were saved in a special numerical chart of a data bank which is structured on the basis of word classes. The diploma thesis comes to the conclusion that each adjectival entry can be carried out in more ways depending on the preferred criterion which can be frequency based, syntactical, semantical or didactical. French verb-noun constructions in the domain of health care and their comparison with Czech
BŘEZINA, Petr
This master's thesis deals with French verbonominal collocations and their Czech translations. It contains two practical tasks: the first task consists in creating a comparable French-Czech corpus of healthcare texts; subsequently, the corpus becomes the primary source for the second task, in which several verbonominal collocations found in the French module of the corpus are studied, their possible translations are looked up in the Czech module of the corpus, and a translatological analysis is made. Practical part is preceded by four theoretical chapters focused on: the definition of collocation, some aspects of the classification of verbonominal collocations, the theory of translation, and issues related to the creation of a corpus, especially a comparable corpus. A French-Czech vocabulary is attached to the thesis.

Halfarová, Anna ; Ženíšek, Jakub (advisor) ; Pípalová, Renata (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the problems which may occur, while translating from English into Czech, using as a foundational material a novel Freedom by American author Jonathan Franzen. The thesis is divided into two sections. For the purpose of the first, practical part, I have chosen two different extracts of the novel, one is taken from the middle of the book, the second one is the last part of the novel Freedom. The second section consists of my analysis, special attention is paid to the problems I had to solve during my translation. I comment on the choices I have made, usually also quoting from the books that deal with translation theories, I found especially helpful those written by Jiří Levý, Dagmar Knittlová and Zlata Kufnerová.
Use of Sense Relations in Expressing Language Humour: TV Series Analysis
Kopicová, Linda ; Matuchová, Klára (advisor) ; Vít, Radek (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on sense relations, the syntagmatic and the paradigmatic axis, and their use in expressing language humour. The analysis was carried out in a corpus extracted from the TV series Friends and How I Met Your Mother. It strives to answer the question whether the sitcoms display the same number of comical incidences both in the first and the last season. Furthermore, it sheds some light on the linguistic realizations employed and the way they operate to trigger laughter. Finally, the thesis provides an insight into the universal tendencies of humour realizations and their reflection in the amassed data.
The Use of the Word comme in contemporary French (Construction « être + ADJ + comme »)
Konštiaková, Kristína ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Štichauer, Jaroslav (referee)
The work is dealing with the French word comme, whose polysemy involves a problematic determination of the part of speech. The aim of theoretical part is to map all the cases of use of this word by using reference dictionaries and specialized literature. The practical part examines in more detail the use of comme in comparison. By means of language corpora, comme is studied in the construction where preceded by the verb be and an adjective (être + ADJ + comme). This structure is analyzed from the frequency point of view in subcorpora representing different types of texts. The frequency analysis includes qualitative analysis of the right context. Another goal is to identify the occurrences with a figurative meaning and to search for the most frequent adjectives as candidates figuring in collocations or perhaps even in idioms. Finally, the potential collocations are contrasted with dictionaries either to confirm them or to discover new ones, yet not lexicalized. Key words: comme, corpus, text type, comparison, collocation
