Russia-Georgia conflict in Czech media : frame analyses of main newspapers
Prokop, Daniel ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Iskanderová, Tatiana (referee)
The thesis examines Czech media interpretation of Russia-Georgia conflict, which took place in August 2008. It analyzes framing of the conflict in four main Czech serious-minded daily newspapers (MF DNES, Právo, Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny) in its main period (6th - 26th August 2008). As the paper is based on Entman's concept of framing, its general research question is which aspects of the topic were selected and made salient by Czech newspapers and to what kinds of interpretations this framing resulted. The thesis combines qualitative and quantitative analyses focused on the media content. The qualitative analysis was used for identification of frames, generating secondary research hypotheses as well as for getting a deeper understanding of how particular frames works. Quantitative analysis is then performed on whole population of the articles. It answers primary research questions (How was the conflict framed? What were the main differences in approaches of the particular newspapers? Did the framing result in pro-Russian, or pro-Georgian interpretation of the conflict? How was the framing transformed in time? Etc.) and tests secondary research hypothesis. For reduction of subjectivity in coding of data for quantitative analysis, Tankard's list of frames approach based on analysis of an agreement...
Sociological characteristics and media representation of ethnic minorities in the media discourse as theoretical examination of comparative studies possibilities: (analytical study of minorities representation in mass media in Czech Republic and Kyrgyzstan in the nineties of the 20th century)
Iskanderova, Tatiana ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kandert, Josef (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
The main issue of the dissertation paper was to provide a comparative analysis of ethnic minorities representation in the Czech and Kyrgzystan media discurses in the 90s of the 20th century. Both of the above mentioned countries have undergone a paradigm change, which in the terminology of the four theories of press changed the so-called soviet paradigm for libertarian one. The aim of the research was to demonstrate that it is possible to use the comparative analysis also in regard to ethnicities (ethnic minorities), cultures and national minority organizations that are geographically distant and typologically different. The research is based on comparison of four researches developed by the following authors: Petra Klvačová, Tomáš Bitrich: Jak se (ne)píše o cizincích, Věra Malkova: Этнические образы в республиканских газетах. Опыт этносоциологического исследования, Stuartem Hall (The spectacle of the "Other"), Bernard Berelson, Patricia J. Salter (Majority and Minority American's: An analysis of magazine fiction). The subject of the study is the collection of texts materials from printed media, supplemented and confronted with a trial research sample of responses provided by representatives of media, politics, science and public etc. (in-depth interviews) on the topic of minorities. By means of...

TV moderator's image and its perception by young audience
Iskanderova, Tatiana ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Duffková, Jana (referee) ; Havlík, Radomír (referee)
The main issue of our dissertation paper is perception of TV moderator's image by the young audience. The problematic is relatively new and under-researched. However, it could be mistaken to state, that earlier researchers did not perform the problematic of TV presentation. This topic has being researched by such scientists as: Alexej Leontjev, Svetla Cmejrková , Victor Meca etc. However, the above mentioned problematic has been researched from the viewpoint of TV presentation's structure and content, but not from the point of audience perception. By means of qualitative (qualitative content analyses of popular Czech and Kyrgyz TV - moderators Jan Kraus, Halina Pawlowká, Marek Eben, Libor Boucek, Andrej Malachov , Lolita Miljavskaja, Vladimír Molcanov etc.) representations and quantitative analyses (questionnaire survey with participation of 428 respondents) performed in Czech Republic and Kyrgyzstan, we demonstrate how the perception of the TV moderator image can be influenced by gender factor, professional and cultural backgrounds of audience. Moreover, by means of our analyses we have found out (identified) that besides the formal (visual) aspects of TV presentation (verbal and nonverbal behaviour), the significant role in the process of formation of young audience's opinion about the talk show moderator...
