TITLE: Greek and Latin medical terminology instruction in programmes of general medicine at medical schools in the Czech Republic and abroad. ABSTRACT: The thesis seeks to provide a systematic description of the Greek and Latin medical terminology instruction at Czech and foreign medical schools. Its main objective is to build a platform for implementations of instructional innovations. In the first part of the thesis the medical terminology instruction in the Czech Republic is contextualized by giving a historical overview of development of medical terminology and dealing with origins of its instruction at the Faculty of General Medicine in Prague. The view of a present state of the instruction is completed by a profile of a typical medical student, which is based on the questionnaire. The next part of the thesis consists of detailed content analyses of selected Czech and foreign textbooks and their comparison. Based upon these analyses, an original typology of instructional models is set up which can be considered to be the most important theoretical outcome of the thesis. Phytopathogenic fungi causing necrosis of Acer pseudoplatanus bark

Bark necrosis is a symptom of variously serious diseases caused by various pathogens. Sycamore is relatively susceptible to bark necrosis, especially trees weakened by stress such as climatic extremes or anthropogenic pollution. Causal agents are Ascomycetes and also Peronosporomycetes of the genus Phytophthora. Degree of pathogenicity is variable, ranging from local necrosis to cankers invading cambium resulting in death of the host. Pathogens can be classified as opportunistic (Cryptostroma corticale), weak (Prosthecium pyriforme) or obligate (Eutypella parasitica). Saprophytes decomposing dead tissue can also be isolated from necroses. To prove non-pathogenicity of these species inoculation experiments on the host are needed. Mycophagous fungi may grow in necroses as hyperparasites (Acremonium sp.). Various species of invertebrates search for necroses as a source of food and shelter. Several small mammals were observed feeding on bark necroses. Their role in spreading spores and initiating a gateway for infection is also considered.

Terrorism in Cyberspace

Although it seems to be a global phenomenon, the internet is a part of human society for relatively short time. Existing in different forms there are phenomena that are present in human society for decades, and that we might not expect in cyberspace. In addition to a mutation of social pathologies such as bullying, child pornography and stalking, internet is used by extremist movements and terrorist groups for their activities such as propaganda, mutual communication, but also for invasive activities. This thesis is focused among other things on terrorism in cyberspace. The introduction places the issue in the current state of society, connecting it with technological and social changes. The second section presents a brief overview of the relevant literature, which is focused on the issue of conventional terrorism and terrorism in cyberspace. The following chapters attempt to define its form, find its essence, and describe the similarities and differences especially in relation to conventional terrorism. These findings are achieved by confrontating both forms of terrorism, its fundamental aspects and classification criteria. Democratisation proces in Libya and its reflections

This work examines relevancy of theoretical aproaches on the subject of democratization processes presented by Francis Fukuyama, Samuel Huntington and Fareed Zakaria, and it discusses a level of relevancy of their theoretical concepts and theses in comparison to the democratization process in Libya, which started in spring 2011. First, the theoretical part of this work presents specific historical, sociocultural, political, religious and economic contexts of Libya from a historical-sociology perspective with a focus on the democratization and liberalization processes in Libya. It discusses democratization factors and reasons, which are applied on the situation in Libya. The empirical part of this work presents reflections and perspectives of the democratization process in Libya from an emical perspective of a Libyan citizen. These reflections are confronted with the theoretical approaches presented in the first part, especially with Huntington's Third Wave. The empirical part reflects the processes of the previous non- democratic regime of Muammar Kaddafi, then the fall of the regime and the revolution situation in Libya, a new democratic regime and finally, the perspectives of consolidation of democracy in Libya.

Political awakening of Islam (Middle East, uneven modernization and the rise of political Islam)

The study deals with roots of (a) rise of political tensions and (b) roots of rise of political Islam (from Muslim Brotherhood and Turkish AKP up to militant Islamic organizations) in the Middle East in the second half of the 20th century. So it deals with conflict between corrupt and highly unpopular political and economical elite and its challengers recruiting from Islamic movements. The basic roots of this conflict and rise of political Islam are seen in highly uneven modernization process: (1) very rapid social and demographic change (urbanization, media expansion, demographic transition, and educational system expansion), (2) slow going and unstable economic development and (3) unchanging political subsystem. This uneven and deformed Middle Eastern modernization pattern is in detail documented by empirical macro-indicators. It is systematically compared with the modernization process in other post-colonial world macro-regions as well as with early European modernization which was accompanied by sharp social conflict, however dominated by rival secular ideologies. Islam in the service of politics, politics in the service of Islam

The objective is a theoretical analysis of mixing politics and religion in Islam, a description of the functions of political and religious institution in Islamic society, and comparison with the Occidental concept of the relationship of religion (extension of the Church) and politics. The reality is mediated by the media quite often through the confusion of terms (such as Islam and Islamism, Islamist or Muslim and Arab and Islamic world) misinterpreted. Very easy it is based on generalization and inappropriate metaphor to create an unfavorable opinion about the culture and the people with whom the author did not even have personal experience. In this thesis should be separated by "West" view of the Islamic religion and politics and perceptions of the Islamic religion and politics through the lens. Part of the thesis is devoted to comparing the performance and Iran and Turkey in relation to the topic, i.e. how these two countries have religion and politics and what is between these two components of the relationship. The issue is the compatibility of Islam with democratic type of society and intercultural dialogue between the "Occident" and Islam.

Vývoj křemíkového detektoru pro experiment Belle II

This bachelor thesis describes a simulation of the DEPFET pixel semiconductor detector. The DEPFET detector is a key part of a newly constructed Belle II particle detector being built in KEK, Japan. The simulation is made as a package for the basf2 framework, developed for the Belle II experiment. The goal of this thesis was to learn about the Belle II experiment, DEPFET pixel detector and the basf2 framework and to develop a simulation environment, depicting experimental setup at CERN's SPS accelerator in 2009. First part of this thesis describes the Belle II detector, the basf2 framework and summarizes basic information about silicon particle detectors, especially about the DEPFET technology. A task for the analysis of the data is to evaluate residuals after particle track fitting and cluster information in the pixel detector. Finally the simulation with thinned DEPFET sensor being developed for the Belle II is done.

Development of activities Official Development Assistance in the Czech Republic after 1989

The thesis is concerned with the development of activities of the foreign development cooperation in the Czech Republic after 1989. The beginning of the work introduces the main concepts related to the theme, the conception of development and the foreign development cooperation. The main development theories and the task of nongovernmental and unprofitable organisations within the foreign development cooperation are also paid attention to. The fundamental theories which the research is based on close the theoretical part. These are the theory of transnational action and constructivism. The research is based both on the study of documents and actual research and on the analysis of high - quality interviews held with the representatives of the chosen unprofitable organisations in Prague. The aim of the high-quality research is to find out how is the development of activities of foreign cooperation perceived by the agents themselves. The development of graphic user interface for processing of MR spectroscopy data

The aim of this thesis is to simplify the processing of spectroscopy data and to create the database of the performed examinations. Currently several programs have to be run, to completely process the measured data. That is why it was necessary to create the user interface, which contains all necessary features and which is tailored to the requirements of the staff processing the data. The research and the development of the program was performed at the department of MR spectroscopy IKEM. The output of the thesis is the graphical interface that controls existing patient management application SPACS used for the archivation and management of the patient data within research projects in MR in IKEM. The application is available via the web browser. All functions, calculations, and views are created in the PHP language, the database is implemented in PostgreSQL and all additional features and utilities are provided by JavaScript language. The application is able to display base images with a volume of interest, to generate the preview of the spectrum from the raw data, to select the processing parameters and to send the data to processing by the LCModel program.
