Musil, Jiří ; Rybák, David (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to describe the problematic of theology of grace in Saint Paul from different perspectives and to focus on historical relavancy of this teaching. The thesis is methodologically between, New Testament biblical studies and philosophy but without any aims to do systematic theology. This thesis can be split into two parts. In the first part it focuses on historical context of Paul's life and meaning of grace in the Old Testament and in Greek language. Also it analyses elemental Paul's concepts related to grace such as sin, law and faith, which is mainly based on exegesis of letter to Romans. Another perspective focuses on liberating and binding aspects of grace in the context of love to people. Second part of the thesis analyses historical meaning of Paul's theology of grace through interpretation of French philosopher Alain Badiou. The thesis is more focused on his concept of truth based on the event and consequences which it has for subject and Christian discourse.
"I and Thou" in the works of Buber and Fromm
Marek, Tomáš ; Pelcová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
Work will deal with the comparison of two great philosophers of the 20th century. Both connects the fact that they were born in a Jewish environment and fundamental philosophical discipline considered ethics. Therefore, both authors agree in their works devoted to the nature of the relationship, "I - Thou", as one of the most pressing philosophical themes. How is their view of this relationship different? What must we do to meet "Thou"? Can a human have a "I and Thou" relationship with god? How can we recognize, that we are in "I and Thou" relationship? These and other questions will be the main subject of my research.
Perennial philosophy
Šotola, Jan ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
My diploma thesis researches the concept of perennial philosophy (philosophia perennis, theologia prisca) and its development in the history of different cultures of the World. As I claim, the concept of Perennialism presents a useful means of understanding of different cultures distanced from us in time and space, including the history of the culture of ours. Perennialism shows, that Wisdom is not an exclusive property of just one civilization, but a common heritage of the Humankind as a whole. Further, it points to mutually beneficial influence of different cultures of the Globe. Throughout the paper, my focus lies on the development of philosophia perennis in the Islamic civilization, particularly on Sufism. Before being demolished by the rise of nationalism, the Sufist philosophy enabled a peaceful coexistence and dialog between different cultures and religions. The development of Perennialism is further studied in the philosophy of european Renaissance, where it was first tolerated by the Catholic Church, later to be abandoned, unfortunately (with few exceptions), during the Reformation and the Thirty Years' War. In the current pedagogical practice, the conception of philosophia perennis may become means of highlighting the common grounds of different cultures in the times of culminating...
"De magistro" by Thomas Aquinas
Adamovič, Tomáš ; Rybák, David (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
Tomáš Adamovič "De magistro" Tomáše Akvinského "De magistro" by Thomas Aquinas Abstract The topic of the submitted Master Thesis is the "De magistro" question from the Disputed Questions on Truth by Thomas Aquinas. The aim of the work is to introduce basic thoughts of this text and present them in a broader context (compared to Plato, Augustine and heterodox Aristotelianisms). The herein applied methods include an analysis of the text, occasionally combined with compilation of Thomas Aquinas and comparison with the works of other authors. In the analysed text, Thomas Aquinas explains his concept of teaching, argues for the statements that a man can be called a teacher, that no one can be called a teacher of himself, that a man can be taught by an angel, and that teaching pertains more to the active life than to the contemplative life. The Thesis is supplemented with some questions of the present author. Keywords teacher, first principles, cognition, Thomas Aquinas, philosophy of education
From Adorno to Habermas: A Study on the Relationship of Critical Theory and Religion
Hlaváček, Karel ; Balon, Jan (advisor) ; Halík, Tomáš (referee) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
In this text, the relation of critical theory and religion is analysed, comparing Jürgen Habermas's late philosophy with the philosophy of his predecessor Theodor W. Adorno. The question I ask is: What changes has the relation of critical theory and religion undergone in the transition from Adorno's thinking to that of his successor? As I try to answer this question, I develop a specific understanding of Adorno's philosophy as a "contemplative eschatology", and perform an in-depth study of how, why, and with what consequences it has changed to a frame oriented towards reaching understanding. In so doing, I point out the ambivalence which the turn towards understanding breeds, and suggest the religious motives discovered in Adorno's work deserve further attention.
