Analysis of understanding words of Czech pupils

Summary: This bachelor's thesis deals with vocabulary of pupils of younger school age, factually of their understanding of the word meanings of these special words. The theoretical part of this thesis intents on vocabulary development of a child in scope of language development from his/her birth till their younger school age and on internal and external factors that influence them during this development. Also an access to vocabulary growth during school teaching and a connection of initial reading literacy are referred. In practical part of this thesis there was analyzed the extent of the understanding of chosen words, the influence of the type of school (the school in the city, town and village) and the extent of the change of the word understanding after putting them into concrete context (it was made in the scope of the concrete sample, at first at the base of the questionnaire result). Then there was found out on the principle of the second part of the research, in what situations pupils meet these unknown words, how they behave when the meet them and whether they are instructed about the meanings of them.

Methods of reading literacy development for pre-school children

(in English): This work deals with the development of reading preliteracy of preschool children. In the first part of the work is described language development of preschool child, term literacy and other terms related to it and also reading preliteracy. Next, the factors which are influenced by external factors, so family and school factors and their mutual relationships, are evaluated. In the second part, the statements of kindergarten teachers, who were interviewed by semi- structured interview, are evaluated. The objective of the work is to find out which activities developing reading preliteracy are applied in kindergartens and which materials are within these activities used. It also brings findings about attitudes of the teachers about some problematic fields of the development of reading preliteracy and the whole preschool education. Aids for Students with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia in 5th to 9th Grades of Primary School

The purpose of the master's thesis is to describe and critically evaluate the learning aids, nowadays used to assist primary school children with specific learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia and dysorthographia) and eventually propose its possible improvements. The results of the research part are based on theoretical methodology and literature. In addition, some of the selected learning aids were tested on a small sample of pupils. To fulfill such goals, it was crucial to get oriented on the field of current tool portfolio for the pupils with given specific learning disabilities through relevant institutions, questionnaires and analysis of the tool market situation. The review and evaluation of the learning aids was finally done based on the outcome of the thesis research part.

Project Education in the Lessons of Czech Language and Literature at a Higher Level of Czech Primary School and at a Secondary School

This theses concern with project-based learning with an emphasis on the subject Czech language and literature on higher level of czech primary school and secondary schools. It's purpose is to comprehend ideas of this teaching method and current state of its use, as well as to prepare analysis of chosen projects (or project ideas for teaching) in the Czech language and literature. The final goal of this thesis is to design own projects, which could be used by teachers in their praxis. Theses thus consists of two parts. The first on is theoretical and focuses on project-based learning in general, the history of project-based learning, it's planning and preparation. The second part, which is empirical, describes on a qualitative level and critically evaluates some projects and suggests own projects too. This theses could provide valuable material for both experienced and novice teachers in the preparation and implementation of project education at Czech schools. Didactic usage of video in Teaching Czech as a foreign language

Usage of a video at real-time Czech lessons (not distantly through YouTube) presents to students a very attractive way of learning a language and the socio- cultural competence quickly and entertainingly. The aim of this paper is to sum up findings of the specialized literature and to create special videos useable in foreign language classes of A0/A1 level based on those findings. The videos will be focused on development of sociocultural competence, the themes shall be following: 1.Lesson of the good manners in the Czech environment part 1. (formal X informal language) 2. Lesson of the good manners in the Czech environment part 2. ( Traveling with the Public transport, how to behave) 3. Holidays ( Christmas, Easter ) The empiric part of this thesis will be based on the hypothesis that using video in the classroom will make the acquisition of the sociocultural competence easier. The video materials will be shown in a couple of groups of student at the A0/A1 level while couple of group of other student will study without them. Those students shall get the competence through printed materials (for example books or materials prepared ad hoc by the teacher) and explanation of the teacher. Nonverbal Communication in Communicative Approach to Teaching Czech as a Foreign Language

This thesis deals with the use of non-verbal communication in the communicative approach when teaching Czech as a foreign language. It focuses on a nonverbal communication and main approaches to the communicative approach in teaching Czech as a foreign language. In its last part, this thesis compares results of previous research of nonverbal communication in the teaching process in a primary and secondary level and analyses of recordings of the lessons of Czech for foreigners. Development of Personality and Social Education in Czech Language Lessons at Primary School

This thesis deals with the integration of the topic of personality and social education into the Czech language lessons taught in classes on the second grade of basic schools and in grammar schools. The first part introduces personality and social education and its particular topics. Then the ways of working with these topics during Czech language lessons are described, and also the activities that can be used by a teacher to include personality and social education into Czech language lessons. One chapter is dedicated to description of E-U-R model and its applicable methods. In practical part the survey among Czech language teachers, which focuses on the attitude of teachers towards personality and social education and their experience with integrating this topic, is described. Also there is a survey that focuses on familiarity of Czech language students with this topic. The survey is carried out by the method of semi-structured interview. The results are commented and projected into theoretical part of the thesis.

Types of Language Exercices and their Distribution in Selected Textbooks of Czech for Foreigners

This dissertation focuses on exercises contained in textbooks of Czech for foreigners and compares the frequency of each type of exercise in selected textbooks. The first part of this dissertation examines related theoretical approaches, including general pedagogical concepts of textbooks and exercises as well as some possible ways of exercise classification. Where appropriate, the more specific approaches of teaching languages are included. The second part of this dissertation deals with the main topic of this dissertation which is frequency analysis of certain exercise types conducted on seven textbooks of Czech for foreigners. The main analysis criterion was suitability of each type of exercise for practising specific language areas and communicative skills. This part further provides detailed analysis method description (including the method of selection of specific textbooks for analysis) and the analysis results. By way of conclusion this dissertation compares all textbooks and seeks to provide some recommendations for teachers who work with these textbooks.

Error Analysis of texts written by non-native speakers of Czech

The bachelor thesis deals with the use of language of non-native speakers of the Czech language - specifically students whose first language is Russian. The first part focuses on different approaches to language errors in terms of the theories which deal with the acquisition of the second language. In the second part, written texts of non-native speakers of the Czech language are analyzed by the method of error analysis. Errors are separately analyzed from a grammatical, morphologic, syntactic and lexicological perspective. Then errors are divided into categories and consequently described and interpreted. Interpretation of the errors takes into account the frequency of errors and focuses on intralingual errors and interlingual errors.

The integration of foreign language pupils into Czech lessons

The bachelor's thesis analyzes the current situation and possibilities of Czech Primary school systém with the integration of foreign pupils with permanent resistance in the Czech republic into Czech language teaching. It deals with not only the options that are guaranteed by law, but also a possible collaboration between schools and other institutions or family. It provides the basic teaching aids that are available for education of these students. Based on the study of literature and consultation with teachers from two Prague Primary schools presents two case studies that describe a way of integrating foreign pupils in these schools, and measures which are succesful or not when working with them.
