Hand Tutor therapy and its effect on band function in patients with multiple sclerosis

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune neurodegenerative affection of the central nervous system with various neurological symptoms. Disability of upper extremities with other symptoms leads to impaired ability to work and ADL-activities of daily living. The purpose of the pilot study was to evaluate the effect of hand training with the Hand Tutor® rehabilitation system. Methods: The study involved 9 probands, completed 6 probands (2 females and 4 males) at an average age of 36 (SD 4), with a mean disease duration of 13 years (SD 4). Patients received a series of 10 Hand Tutor® therapies, 1-2 times a week. The effect of the therapy was evaluated using the Nine Hole Peg Test (9HPT), the Modified Frenchay Scale and the subjective evaluation of the probands. Results: Before the therapies, the average performance in the 9HPT test was 85 seconds and 83 points in the Modified Frenchay scale. After the therapies, the average 9HPT performance was 67 seconds and 86 points in the Modified Frenchay scale. According to the subjective evaluation of probands, the therapy had a positive effect on the tremor of the upper limb and on the use of the upper limb in the ADL. Use of dancing mat in physiotherapy of patients with multiple sclerosis

Title: Use of dancing mat in physiotherapy of patients with multiple sclerosis Abstract: The bachelor thesis deals with the use of dancing mat in physiotherapy of patients with multiple sclerosis. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate overall the use and effectiveness of therapy with a dance mat in physiotherapy and possible effect on gait performance, balance and movement coordination. The thesis includes theoretical part and practical part. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the multiple sclerosis in general and how can be symptoms influenced by physiotherapy. The practical part summarise effect of music and dance intervention on people with multiple sclerosis and introduce dancing mat as potencional rehabilitation tool. Practical part includes four case reports of physiotherapy program with dance pad. Effects of this type of therapeutic intervention is evaluated by functional walking tests (T25FW), balance assessment (Berg Balance Scale, the Mini-BESTest), gait performance assassment (the GAITRite instrument). The effect of Pilates on stability and walking parameters in patients with multiple sclerosis.

The thesis investigates problems of walking and balance disorders in patients with multiple sclerosis and the effect of group Pilates lessons. The theoretical part provides an overview of the current knowledge about the disease - etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, types and symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the possibilities of therapy. The Pilates method, its history and principles of exercise are described. The aim of the practical part was to evaluate the effect of the Pilates program on walking and balance in MS patients. The group included 32 patients, 21 in the experimental group and 11 in the control group. The experimental group participated on the 10 - week Pilates program. Standardized gait and balance functional test were used for objective assessment; patient outcome measurements were used for subjective evaluation of exercise effect. More detailed gait parameters were obtained using the GAITRite instrument. Measurements were performed before and after therapy. Significant change - improvement (p < 0.05) was observed in some values of balance parameters, walking parameters and even in some subjective questionnaires. Therefore, we suggest, that group exercise lessons supervised by experienced instructor may be beneficial exercise therapy for people with MS and mild disability....

The extent of cognitive functions is variable, occur mild to moderate disorders, therefore has cognitive rehabilitation in patients with MS great importance. There are many cognitive rehabilitation software available, but none of them is primarily focused on MS patients. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate feasibility of the new sofrware for cognitive rehabilitation in people with MS (called Kote). In bachelor thesis is used the research method of a written questionnaire survey and on the basis of the evaluation of the non - standardized questionnaire the authors will be provided with suggestions for further software upgrades. Influence of walking disorder on possibilites of activities in patients with Multiple sclerosis

The thesis deals with negative effect of gait impairment in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) on activities of everyday life (work activities, social activities, personal activities). First part of thesis (theoretical) describes multiple sclerosis disease with typical syndromes and treatment options (especially rehabilitation treatment options). This part also contains description of International Classification of Function, Disability and Health (ICF) as a new tool for rehabilitation assessment. Then process of ICF of evaluation of ICF in relation to MS is mentioned. Second practical part of thesis contains subjective evaluation of activities (using questionnaire) and objective gait performance assessments (Timed 25 foot walk test, The 2 minute walk test) in group of 156 people with MS. Results of all assessments are described and in discussion compared with similar foreign studies. Discussion part includes recommendation on how these results can influence rehabilitation process in people with MS. Practical part of thesis is illustrated by a case study describing one of MS patients.

Utilisation of CI Therapy in Patients with Multiple sclerosis

Thesis written in a form of research deals with possibilities of utilization of Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CI therapy) in treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). CI therapy represents a concept of rehabilitation techniques with the main aim of reducing motor deficit of the affected limb by its return to the functional mode. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part is based on research of relevant literature and gives a general summary of multiple sclerosis, neuroplasticity and general knowledge about CI therapy. The second part then summarizes all available information related to efficiency of CI therapy in MS. It is documented by a case report of a patient with relapse remitent type of MS. The therapy has led to improvements, which is objectified by functional tests such as Frenchay arm test or Motor Activity Log.

Board games used for teaching Czech in Primary Schools

The main aim of this diploma thesis is to make a contribution to discussion about suitability of using board games in education and to confirm that making use of board games is a valid didactical method used for teaching Czech language. Theoretical part is focused on play and game, making use of games in education, board games, their characteristics, categories, types and utilization in education. Following chapters explore advantages and disadvantages of using board games for teaching Czech which encounter Primary school teachers and contributions of games to devepolment of key competences. Further in the work, an overview/summary of Czech language board games suitable for teaching Czech and available on the Czech market is stated. These games were evaluated according to beforehand set criteria. A collection of my own board games created for needs of Czech language Primary school teachers follows.

Title: The effect of music therapy on gait and balance in patients suffering from multiple sclerosis Abstract: This bachelor thesis investigates how music therapy affects the movement and balance of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).This thesis has a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part is concerned with the phenomenas of MS and music therapy. One chapter of the theoretical part details foreign studies investigating the effect of music therapy on patients with MS. The practical part explores the duration of music therapy sessions and includes an example of a model appointment, because as part of the practical part, she personally led the lessons of music therapy with patients for the duration of three months. The practical part also includes comparisons of the results from the entrance and final examination of the respondents. The tests included in this thesis focus on the most frequently occurring symptoms in patients with MS, in particular on balance and walking. For the purpose of this bachelor thesis, the author decided to perform examinations using the apparatus Gaitrite and others. The author also added a test for the soft monitoring of hand and questionaries, which were aimed not only on motor activity, but also on the mental side of patients' health. Key words: multiple...

Advances in treatment of human trypanosomiasis

Sleeping sickness is a human disease found in sub-saharan Africa, and is caused by a parasitic protozoan Trypanosoma brucei. Trypanosoma brucei species infects various mammals, however, only Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense subspecies are resistant to trypanolytic factors found in human blood serum. This work briefly summarizes known operating mechanisms of trypanolytic factors and resistance mechanisms of trypanosomes to these factors. The work covers mainly description and summarization of current diagnostic methods of sleeping sickness and used trypanocidal drugs. Majority of introduced methods shows high levels of sensitivity and specificity, however, for poor, disease affected areas they are often way too expensive. Prescribed drugs are expensive as well, and what's more, they are often ineffective against both subspecies and have severe side effects. Last part of the work is dedicated to potential development of new medicaments.

Management of physical activities in multiple sclerosis patients

v anglickém jazyce Management of physical activities in multiple sclerosis patients The thesis introduces how is possible to organise physical activities in groups of multiple sclerosis patients. First theoretical part of thesis describes the multiple sclerosis as one of the most frequent neurological disease with its typical symptoms and possible farmacologic treatment. There are also few comments about patients attittude to physical activity, their adherence to regular physical activity and how to motivate them for better compliance. Lastly this theoretical part contains international recommendation concerning type, intensity and duration of exercise in multiple sclerosis patients. The second part of thesis is about practical experiences with group exercise management in our organization (MS Center, 1st Faculty of Medicine and General University Hospital in Prague). The experiences from group exercise are analysed from three diffrent points of view: objective measurement of gait parametres, exercise attendance and data gained from patient questionnaire.
