India-U.S. Relations in the Late 1960s and in the First Half of the 1970s
Novotný, Ondřej ; Bečka, Jan (advisor) ; Vidén, Anna Karolina (referee)
This MA thesis titled as - India-U.S. Relations in the Late 1960s and in the First Half of the 1970s - focuses on mutual relations of the U.S. on one side and India on the other. It elaborates various events, which influenced these relations during the late 1960s and in the first half ot the 1970s. The result of this work is the confirmation that the U.S., in its foreign policy strategy, strictly followed the principle of realpolitik. Thanks to that their interests, however, often collided with those of India. Its effort of rapprochment with the PRC, during which Pakistan played an important role as the main communication channel between both countries, was a 'thorn in the side' of India's top officials, including its Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The U.S. foreign policy, which was mainly in hands of the National Security Advisor of President Richard Nixon Henry Kissinger, had to logically prefer an alliance with Pakistan. This, of course, was not welcomed by India because these two Asian countries waged several wars against each other and had strained relations since their birth. Thus, in spite of the fact that India might seem as the best American partner, given its strong democratic principles, the opposite was true. Nixon/Kissinger, in defiance of all obstacles, did not relent and remained firm...

Novotný, Ondřej ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kačmárová, Pavla (referee)
The thesis is focused on a company transition from a centrally planned economy to a market-oriented economy. It attempts to illustrate the example of German company Carl Zeiss (Jena), which was after World War II divided into two new companies - eastern VEB Carl Zeiss Jena and western Carl Zeiss Oberkochen. After the fall of the Berlin Wall were both companies reunified. Due to the large differences in the economic environment from which both companies came, it was a very difficult process that lasted almost until the beginning of the second half of the 90s. Like most of the former East German corporate sector, the Jena factory found itself in a crisis. Jena hoped, however, that it will gain support from the western brother in Oberkochen. However, due to inherent problems of Oberkochen and excessive production structure of Jena could Western counterpart assume take over only a small part of the eastern company. Through the privatization, which was in charge of the Treuhandanstalt, paradoxically another partition of the factory in Jena occurred. From everything that was not assumed by Oberkochen, was founded the company Jenoptik. The aim of the study is to determine, if the two companies have survived the transformation, also to which extent can their transformation be described as a successful one...

Design of assist robot
Novotný, Ondřej ; Látal, Roman (referee) ; Kučera, Petr (advisor)
The aim of the Bachelor thesis is design of frame and lifting mechanism of assist robot called „Bob“. The thesis consist of several construction design of mechanism and gears, final solution control and creating of prototype. For the materiál of frame construction was chosen the aluminium because of its hardness and weight. The chassis of robot is 3-wheeled construction unable passing through threshold. The motor for robot drive was chosen DC motor with 500 rpm and torque 600 Nmm, which is placed inside of front wheels. For the lifting mechanism was chosen the motion screw with trapezoidal screw-thread Tr 10x3 made by DIN 103 from C15 steel. Another part of the thesis was create of the prototype for testing whole mechanisms and gears.

Robust Speaker Verification
Profant, Ján ; Novotný, Ondřej (referee) ; Matějka, Pavel (advisor)
The goal of this paper is to analyze the impact of codec degraded speech on a state-ofthe-art speaker recognition system. Two feature extraction techniques are analyzed - Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) and the state-of-the-art system using Bottleneck features together with MFCC. Speaker recognition system is based on i-vector and Probabilistic Linear Discriminant Analysis (PLDA). We compared scenarios where PLDA is trained only on clean data, then system where we added also noise and reverberant data, and at last, codec degraded speech. We evaluated the systems on the matched conditions (data from the same codec are seen with PLDA) and also mismatched conditions (PLDA does not see any data from the tested codec). We experimented also with recently introduced technique for channel adaptation - Within-class Covariance Correction (WCC). We can see clear benefit of adding transcoded data to PLDA or WCC (with approximately same gain) for both tested conditions (matched and mismatched).
Voice Conversion
Hodaň, David ; Novotný, Ondřej (referee) ; Černocký, Jan (advisor)
Voice conversion is the process of transformation of speech parameters belonging to one speaker in such a way that his/her speech sounds as spoken by someone else. This thesis presents a short summary of several techniques currently used for conversion. First, the theory of voice creation with an emphasis on key atributes that characterize and identify a speaker’s voice is described. Methods for voice modification are discussed, together with the advantages and pitfalls that predetermine the use-cases for suitable application of these methods. A high-level overview of how speech is transformed between the source and the target speakers is presented. This description is subsequently used to design a voice conversion system that is aimed to demonstrate one of the possible approaches to the conversion problem. The process of conversion consists of two phases: training and synthesis. As part of this project, a computer program for voice conversion based on the MATLAB programming environment has been developed. Its design, implementation and results are discussed.
