Homoscedasticity Tests in a Linear Model
Vávra, Jan ; Komárek, Arnošt (advisor) ; Hlávka, Zdeněk (referee)
This thesis deals with testing the assumption of homoscedasticity in linear model, that is the assumption of constant variance of this model. There is plenty of such tests, but not all of them can be applied to specific model and not all of them reach satisfactory results under various circumstances. Thesis focuses on tests which can be derived on the basis of the asymptotic theory for maximum likelihood estimation, particularly the test theory with nuisance parameters. There are derived two basic tests, the first one in the situation of analysis of variance model and the second one in the situation when we allow the dependence of variance to concomitant quantities. In subsequent numerical studies there are examined characteristics of derived test statistics. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Semiospace of self in discourse of webpage suicidegirls.com and facebook community suicide girls czech
Vávra, Jan ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Dvořák, Tomáš (referee)
The erotic website SuicideGirls.com can be viewed in the context of striptease culture. The term was coined by the sociologist Brian McNair in 2002 in order to describe the tendency to openly theme the human sexuality within media content. Simultaneously with the metaphorical and literal exposing, the intimacy is being constructed within the discourse as an expression of true self and, as Feona Attwood develops McNair's claims speaking about sexualization of culture, the representation becomes the selfrepresentation. The SuicideGirls present themselves especially on soft-pornographic photographs through a significant alternative stylization, mostly tattoos and piercing. While for example Megan Jean Harlow (2009), a feminist critique representative, considers the style-creating elements of tattoo as an expression of distinctive practices, according to Shoshana Magnet (2007) the soft-pornographic mode of representation reduces the distinctiveness of SuicideGirls to a certain form of standard pornography. The semiotic and psychoanalytical interpretation of SuicideGirls.com focuses on softpornographic symbolic of the distinctiveness perceived by the community. Jacques Lacan's mirror stage concept explains the principles of subject's identification with his or her specular image. It is also important to...

Kosková, Jitka ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Vávra, Jan (referee)
The aim of thesis is the environmental migration in rural areas of the South Bohemian Region. The thesis focuses on the migration because of the floods which took place there in 2002 and 2013. These floods are considered one of the most destructive floods in the last century. The aim of this work is based on mixed research in order to determine whether there is the environmental migration in selected municipalities and furthermore, how people react to these events. It also analyzes the impact of external factors such as geographic location, awareness and role of the municipal village on the migration. The research is based on qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on the research it could be said that the environmental migration does not exist in the four selected villages. In conclusion, the above selected external factors do not affect the migration of people due to the floods. In other words, they do not affect human decision whether to stay in the village or leave it. Key words: environmental migration, floods, role of municipality, awareness, geographic location, rural areas, South Bohemian Region

This relation has been explored through the modern phenomenon of suburbanization from the culturological and ecological point of view. Rolfová, Eliška ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Vávra, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with the phenomenon of allotment gardening and allotment sites. These days, numerous sites have to face the threat of extinction, which may be caused by insufficient evaluation of their role in the city environment. The aim of the research of allotment sites is to point out their social, economic and particularly environmental benefits for the city. The first part of the thesis concerns the origin, development and current state of allotment gardening in Europe and Czech lands (particularly in cities). Allotment gardening is then examined in the context of sustainable development, with regard to its environmental, social, economic as well as legal and political aspects. The second part of the thesis describes the case study in Jenerálka, allotment site in Prague. The study investigates the development, current state of the site and its position within the city. Vávra, Jan ; Lapka, Miloslav (advisor) ; Seják, Josef (referee) ; Soukup, Václav (referee)
Jan Vávra Birth of "post-carbon" society? Culture change through eyes of local community. FACU - Cultural studies, PhD thesis abstract The thesis was written in the collaboration with the international 7th FP EU research project GILDED. The thesis focuses on current social and cultural changes associated with the birth of the low-carbon society. This society lowers its dependendcy on the fossil fuels, as well as the overall energy consumption (and the amount of CO2 emissions as well). These changes are driven mainly by the concern of the anthropogenic climate changes. The thesis deals with this issues from the social sciences perspective, we use theoretical framework of the contemporary cultural ecology. The empirical research methods are mainly sociological and combine both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Respondents in five regions (including urban and rural areas) of different EU states were interviewed and questioned during the study. These states included United Kingdom (Scotland), the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary. In 2009 about 200 interviews were held in the study sites, in 2010 about 2500 respondents participated in questionnaire study (500 of them in the Czech Rep.) We asked for their attitudes towards climate change, opinions on energy demand, possible mitigation...
A threat of state bankruptcy as a basic element of the czech electoral media agenda
Vávra, Jan ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
Václav Bělohradský stated (Právo, July 3, 2010) that "'Greece' was one of the biggest pre-election lies in political history of this country." The aim of this thesis is to examine the role media played in the alleged "pre-election lie": how set the agenda(or drew on the topics) and how pre-election discourse involved the theme of state bankruptcy in the country, whose bonds were according to Bloomberg two months before parliamentary election in 2010 the eighth safest in the world. I examine the content of the most widely read weeklies Reflex, Respekt and Týden, respectively their May 2010 issues (election-month). I will proceed from the assumption that weeklies have the greatest potential to put events into the relevant context, and thereby significantly shape the discourse. This thesis uses the discourse (focusing on its ideological character according van Dijk's evidences) and semiotic (using the theory of Roland Barthes) analysis to detect any mythological elements concerning political parties and ideas in connection with the threat of state bankruptcy. The theoretical part focuses on the possible political consequences of media manipulation especially in the electoral process. I consider inspiring for the needs of this thesis evidence of the German sociologists Jürgen Habermas (of universal pragmatists)...
The principle of montage in the composition of prosaic literary work
Vávra, Jan ; Mravcová, Marie (advisor) ; Vaněk, Václav (referee)
The thesis examines the specificities of the different concepts of "Assembly principle" (principle of "Montage") in expert literary studies. Making use of this theoretical base, it dares to classify phenomenon. They are also analysed selected prose literary works of twenties and thirties of 20th century, in which the Montage apply. The thesis points to some of the world's pioneering novels, in which their authors discover the possibilities of the method (Joyce, Dos Passos, Döblin). Special attention is paid to the presence of "Montage" in the Czech utopian fiction novels. The Montage is used in a specific way to enlarge the effect of the (utopian) content - see: War with the Newts by Karel Čapek, "Dům o tisíci patrech" (House of Thousand Floors) by Jan Weiss or Jiří Haussmann's "Velkovýroba cnosti" (Mass production of Virtue). In addition to the Utopia appearance the Montage is used as a tool of author's game with readers - e.g. in the book "Robinsonáda" by Karel Konrád, representative of the Czech Poetism (literary movement).
