Personality psychological assessment of eligibility of job applicants in prisons

The main aim of this thesis was to design methodology that could be used for psychological assessment of personal capability of applicants that apply for position of warders in Czech prisons. As fare as my motivation for dealing with this topic is concerned at least two reasons could be mentioned. The first was a need for new tools which would be suitable for effective assessment of applicants. The second reason is more personal and comes out of my need for professional growth in the field. The submitted paper is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical while the second one is empirical. In the first part I deal with a question of selection of employees from a perspective of job analyses, job definition and specification, competence, cognition of personality, determining criteria for assessment of personal capability, procedure of employees' selection and use of assessment centre method. Experiences of some professionals working in Czech prisons were although used to enrich the theoretical part. We tried to create a base that could help us to make "profesiogram", structured interview and methods for selection of employees which would be suitable for assessment of applicants for posts of warders. Prevention of unemployment. Developing key competencies

This thesis deals with the issue of unemployment and its possible prevention by developing key competencies such as knowledge, skills, attitudes and personal characteristics. These are not only universally applicable when looking for a job, but are generally useful considering present demands. In the general part this thesis brings closer some theoretical solutions explaining the relationship between humans and work and it sheds light on the present understanding of unemployment as a social problem that has considerable impact on certain, perhaps socially challenged or vulnerable, groups of people. Here are presented facts about the impact unemployment has on human beings and their interaction with demographic and personal characteristics. Furthermore the reader becomes acquainted with thus far used approaches to conceptualizations of competencies and their effect on successful merging into the work life. The conclusion of this section attends to the possibilities of preventing unemployment on the primary, secondary and tertiary level. Personnel-psychological diagnostics of golden profiler of personality

The presented diploma thesis offers possibilities and limits of using the Golden Profiler of Personality (GPOP) in the context of personnel psychology. Attention is devoted to general methodological principles of psychological assessments, their contribution to personnel practice focusing on recruitment process and the discussion about increasing efficiency of selection process less mentally demanding and responsible positions. The theoretical part is mainly dedicated to the method GPOP, which in its core is based on the Jung's theory of psychological types, which has stimulated development of the questionnaire MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), and the Five-factor personality theory. Combining two completely different approaches it comes into being an assessment able to interpret on the one side, the uniqueness of personality, and on the second side its resemblance to a certain type. In the practical part, the psychometric characteristics of the questionnaire completed by 524 selected respondents are analyzed and evaluated. Coaching - the part of professional development

This work deals with subject of coaching as a part of the professional development. The first part is devoted to the theoretical initial data of the coaching. There are summarily described definitions that can be found in specialized literature. A strong attention has been given also to historical and philosophical principles of coaching. Having presented this essential information the work defines coaching compared with its related branches as consultancy, training, mentoring or psychotherapy. In a separate chapter, the process of coaching, its principles, stages and basic models have been treated. Two main types of coaching are mentioned in brief. A more extensive chapter has been dedicated to the personality characteristics of a coach and his function depending on his position in the company. Conclusion of the first part is focused on questions of ethics in the coaching process. The second half of this work is represented by a practical part describing two research studies - a qualitative and a quantitative. Gender differences in communication and managerial skills

There exist a significant number of research works today analyzing gender differences from many different aspects. This paper deals with differences exhibited by men and women in the area of communication and managerial skills that are found by the Development Centre Method, where these differences are expressed by the style in which a person leads ones subordinates and by how an individual functions in a team. The theoretical part of the paper presents basic terms and principles of the gender issue. Furthermore, it looks at gender differences in communication and leadership styles. The aim of the undertaken research was to find out whether differences between men and women in communication and leadership styles exist in the following categories: dominance/directivness, goal-orientation, positive motivation, negative motivation, uncertainty. For the purpose of this analysis, both qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The results did not prove a statistically significant difference between the two sexes in all the aforementioned categories, but only some of them.
Opportunities and limitations of psychological work with "fleet car" drivers

Traffic safety problems are often discussed and researched, especially recently. Psychology plays an irretrievable part in solving these problems. Submitted diploma theses focuses on specific segment of these problems, the area of the traffic safety related to drivers, who do not have the driving as the main scope of employment, though they need a car to perform their work - fleet car drivers. Emphasis is placed on definitions of the key-terms and summary of theoretical pieces of knowledge, taking in consideration that the issue has not been researched extensively. In practical part of the thesis the opportunities and limits of the work with fleet car drivers are discussed. Pieces of knowledge that aroused from the thesis lie in the area of mental capacity of the fleet car drivers, in the area of general approach to trainings at the hands of the employers and also in the area of the administration of the records regarding the accidents (above all for the purposes of their importance for the subsequent work on raising the safety of fleet car drivers). As the most important result from diploma it appears the project for specialists from different areas, mainly from the area of traffic psychology, to enter the problems of fleet car driving with more urgency.
Selection of IT professionals and their personality characteristics

The theme of this paper is an important part of Work and Organization psychology. We tried to describe in details all processes related to the recruitment and selection of candidates in theoretical part of this paper. The most important focus is dedicated to particular methods of recruitment. Professional use of these methods would possibly increase efectivity of selection of future employees. In empirical part of this work we give attention to investigation of personality characteristics through multidimensional personal questionnaire and administration of picture drawing test. In the practical part we also offer possibility of connecting practical knowledge of human resources and psychological testing methods.
Mystery shopping

This diploma thesis deals with employee performance evaluation, especially in the field of direct retail and service providers. There are briefly mentioned particular evaluation methods in the theoretical part. Attention is focused on the mystery shopping method and its specificity from the psychological view. ln the practical part we write about research which has been realized in the CG company. The employee evaluation was carried out by using test shopping in two terms (autumn 2005, spring 2006). ln the final chapter of the second part we summarize important conclusions. We discuss factors that affect the validity of the evaluation and positive contribution of MS for the company and we test some particular hypothesis about the difference between evaluations in both MSs. We identity weak points in individua! performance and team performance and define its development potential i ty.

Negotiation can be defined as the joint decision making between interdependent individuals with divergent interests. Whenever two or more people gather to exchange information with the intent of changing their relationship in some way, we can say, they are negotiating. Failure to negotiate constructively can have tremendous consequences for a variety of social and economic outcomes. The opening part ofthesis traces conflict theory, short history ofthe psychological study of negotiation and definitions of negotiation short overview. The further part reviews emerging research areas, each of which provides useful insight in to how negotiators subjectively understand the negotiation: mental models in negotiation; how concems of ethics, faimess and values define the rul es of the game being played; how the selection of a communication medium impacts the way the game is played; how negotiators organize and simplify their understandings; rehirth of social factors in the psychological study, including social relationships, egocentrism, motivated illusions and emotion. This diploma thesis deals with a theme which is very modern nowadays. Development Centre is a program composed by a set of methods aimed to employees development. With a view to results of DCs an individua! developing pian for participant can be created. This pian can help the participant to reach desirable level of his abilities, knowledge and skills. The advantage is to associate DCs with wellestablished HR strategies like Performance Management, Talent Management, Career Planning etc. The purpose of this work is to attempt to map the subject of DCs in its whole width and present what can this technique offer, point out its advantages and disadvantages, try to critically introduce what we can expect from this technique and what cannot be awaited.
