English gerund and its Czech translation equivalents
Benešová, Adéla ; Brůhová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (referee)
The purpose of the present work was to analyse the English gerund and its Czech translation equivalents. The gerund and its translation equivalents were gathered from two parallel literary texts: Kazuo Ishiguro's An Artist of the Floating World, translated by Jiří Hanuš, and Joanne K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, translated by Vladimír Medek. For the research we used ParaConc, concordance software for multilingual parallel corpora. The resulting excerpts were then analysed from the linguistic point of view in order to provide a contrastive description of the English gerund and its Czech equivalent expressions; as a background texts were used comprehensive English and Czech grammar books. The study aimed to illuminate two related areas; namely the types of Czech translation equivalents of gerunds and the correspondence of the types of Czech translation equivalents with various syntactic functions of the gerunds. The analysis provided details about the regularities that occur in the translations of the various syntactic functions of the gerund. It was also proved that the translation of the English gerund into Czech is closely associated with the interpretation of the analytic language into the syntactic language; the confrontation of the language types may be used as background to...

The methods used in this section include theoretical analysis and interpretation of key concepts and findings presented in the literature, implemented research and other sources in order to provide a basis for the focus and design of the research and relevant data for the discussion of its results. In the empirical part, a mixed- methods research design is presented. The main aim is to find out whether subjective ratings of selected general skills and soft competences important for employment differ between young people from children's homes and young people growing up in families. The investigation is based on a methodological triangulation of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and is...

Benešová, Johana ; Koťa, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Novotná, Veronika (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the role of low-threshold facility for children and youth in a multidisciplinary solution to the difficulties of socialization. The goal is to try to present how a low-threshold facility for children and young people can contribute to solving the socialization difficulties of children and adolescents. In the theoretical part thesis presents the socialization difficulties of children and adolescents from the point of view of the clientele of a low-threshold facility for children and youth based on vocational literature. It proposes possibilities of methodical work supplemented by multidisciplinary cooperation inspired by three-level support of positive behaviour. The research part of the thesis examines the use of methodological work through the case studies of three clients of a low-threshold facility for children and youth, in which socialization difficulties manifest themselves. The research part is based on the hypothesis that client saturates unmet primary needs with his behaviour. From this point of view, part of the thesis tries to define - through the story of client - the hypothesis about the purpose of problem behaviour due to unmet primary needs and to design their saturation in more constructive way. The thesis tries to verify the effectiveness of the...
