Pressure on performance is characteristic for current society. Constatly increasing demands cause many people increasing level of perceived stress. Chronic stress has become a serious problem nowadays, causing a significant number of physical and psychological problems. It is therefore important to focus primarily on stress prevention rather than on the elimination of adverse effects of stress. This bachelor thesis is focused on Shinrin-yoku as a possible method of stress reduction. The main principles of Shinrin-yoku are described, possible physiological and psychological mechanisms involved in the effect of practicing Shinrin-yoku, proven physiological and psychological effects of practicing Shinrin-yoku and practical applications of this method are mentioned as well. The research proposal is devised as a quantitative research with an experimental design. The aim of this research project is to find out how Shinrin-yoku influences selected physiological and psychological parameters.
Biological mechanisms playing a role in origin in stress
Sákrová, Anna ; Červinková, Monika (advisor) ; Javůrková, Alena (referee)
The main topic of the bachelor's thesis are the biological mechanisms taking place in the body of an individual under the influence of stress or during an ongoing stressful situation. The research project proposal is preceded by a literature review, focusing on stress as a separate concept and the individual biological mechanisms involved in its origin, as well as nervous and humoral mechanisms, including stress hormones. This part is also focused on a brief introduction to post-traumatic stress disorder. Within the design of the research project, the work is focused on the possibility of increased depressive symptoms in people diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. The aim of the research is to revel whether increased symptomatology is related with diagnosed post - traumatic stress disorder and if so, what relationship it is. The data will then be analyzed and compared with control group, with the possibility of expanding knowledge in this area through further research.
Time perspective and anxiety
Chvojková, Iveta ; Loneková, Katarína (advisor) ; Javůrková, Alena (referee)
This thesis deals with the concept of time perspective with relation to anxiety. In the theoretical part, the terms of state anxiety, trait anxiety and anxiety disorders are defined. Furthermore, a space is dedicated to self-regulatory mechanisms. To give a holistic view, possible positives and benefits of anxiety in general are outlined as well. Moreover, the concept of time perspective, approaches to its measurement and linkage to experience and behaviour of individuals are presented. Subsequently, relationships between anxiety and time perspective are discussed. Last chapter of the theoretical part focuses on possible time perspective interventions for anxious individuals. The empirical part aims at discovering relationships between the concept of time perspective and state anxiety. For this purpose, the data obtained were analysed using a questionnaire survey conducted on a sample of respondents aged in early and middle adulthood. The questionnaire battery consisted of a section gathering demographic information, STAI questionnaire measuring both state and trait anxiety and a shortened version of the ZTPI - short extended by negative future perspective. The results of our research showed a significant positive relationship between anxiety and following time perspectives: negative past and...

Neuropsychological profile in idiopatic generalized epilepsy (IGE)
Živnůstka, Miroslav ; Javůrková, Alena (advisor) ; Rolederová, Iva (referee)
Title: Neuropsychological profile in patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy Author: Miroslav Živnůska Thesis supervisor: PhDr. Alena Javůrková, Ph.D. Consultant: PhDr. Jaroslava Raudenská, Ph.D. Pages: 60 Number of resources: 56 Idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) is an epilepsy of genetic or unknown origin. It is divided into four syndromes: childhood absences (CAE), juvenile absences (JAE), juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) and epilepsy with generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS). Some studies have suggested that patients with IGE may exhibit deficits in cognitive domains such as intelligence, attention, memory, executive function, motor function, and speech function. The most affected area appeared to be the domain of execution, specifically the ability of verbal fluency. Medications, depression, impaired quality of life and other risk factors can also contribute significantly to cognitive impairment. Moreover, the siblings of these patients may also show a slight decrease in performance in neuropsychological tests. In addition, significant brain changes were found in patients with IGE, especially in the thalamus. This work sought to map the neuropsychological profile and affectivity in patients with IGE and their siblings, that was compared with a healthy control group. Furthermore,...
Cognitive profile in patients with atrial fibrillation
Mičková, Daniela ; Javůrková, Alena (advisor) ; Míková, Gabriela (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the profile of patients' cognitive functions with atrial fibrillation. The first section of the theoretical part is concerned with the associations between atrial fibrillation (AF) and cognitive disorders, physiological causes standing in their backround and the development risk factors of cognitive deficits of patients suffering from AF. Next, there comes the description of problematic cognitive impairment diagnosis in population of these patients. It presents the research results showing the distribution of cognitive deficit in individual cognitive domains. In terms of monitored variables in the research, it also briefly informs about connection between the affective domains and cognition at patients diagnosed with AF. In the final part, there are submitted treatment possibilities of cognitive deficits at patients with AF, which mainly represent prevention and cardiovascular illnesses therapy. In the empirical part of the thesis, there are compared cognitive functions in the group of patients with AF to the comparative group based on the control of the number of depressive and anxiety symptoms. Keywords Cognitive function, atrial fibrillation, cognitive impairment, cognitive deficit, cognitive profil
Detection of diabetes distress syndrome in Czech patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus
Povrazníková, Monika ; Hrachovinová, Tamara (advisor) ; Javůrková, Alena (referee)
Literature review part of this thesis focuses on the diabetes mellitus diagnosis and its negative effects on mental health and social relationships of diagnosed patients in form of diabetes distress. The research part investigates change of diabetes distress measured by Diabetes distress scale (DDS) and glycated haemoglobin HbA1c in the beginning, at the end and 6 months after the end of the group educational course. The group consisted of 66 Czech people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (mean age 62 years, SD = 9,77; median = 63,5). Increased diabetes distress (DDS value ≥ 2) in the 1st measurement of DDS was reported by 15 people out of 52 (29%). There was a significant decrease in HbA1c from the beginning to the end of the course (χ2 (2) = 22.5; p <0,001) and this low level was maintained even after 6 months after the course. A non-significant reduction in diabetes distress between 1st and 2nd measurement was observed in 45 subjects (W = 509; p = 0,098). A statistically significant reduction in diabetes distress was observed between the 1st and 2nd DDS measurement only in those 23 subjects (χ2 (2) = 9,50; p = 0,002) who also participated in 3rd DDS measurement - further research in this area would be appropriate. In our sample, no significant difference was found between the sexes, DDS and HbA1c,...
