Survey of mortars of the Romanesque chapel in the tower of Landštejn Castle

Four samples of floor mortars and two samples of plasters were analysed as a part of the survey in the Romanesque chapel located in the tower at Landštejn Castle. The aim was to characterize used raw materials, determine their ratio, characterize the porosity of mortars and compare mortars sorted to different phases of construction.
Survey of the floor in the winter garden of the residence of the ambassador to the US

On May 7, 2019, a survey was carried out in the winter garden of the Otto Petschek Villa, the\nresidence of the Ambassador to the USA. The aim was to clarify the distribution of metal reinforcements\nand other structural elements in the floor of the room. The survey was carried out in\ncooperation with the designer Ing. Zdeněk Rieger.
Determination of the vaporization plane depth in sandstones and other porous materials: uranine-coated needles

Abstact The vaporization plane in porous materials separates the capillary zone, the area where water moves in liquid state, from the dry surface layer where water moves in the form of vapor. The depth of the vaporization plane and its geometry is essential for a large number of physical, chemical and biological processes in porous materials that can, for example, cause material degradation and decay. Mostly, the vaporization plane is not measured directly, but water content or suction pressure measurements are used instead, which are, however, not suitable for the plane's detection. Therefore, there was a need for a method that would be able to determine the depth of the vaporization plane in holes of small diameter (<1 cm). To fulfill this aim, I used a needle onto which I applied glue and uranine. Upon insertion, uranine on the needle dissolves in the capillary zone and changes its color from red to green, while remaining red in the dry zone. The boundary between the red and green parts thus accurately displays the vaporization plane. With this newly developed method, I subsequently measured the depth of the vaporization plane on natural outcrops as well as on buildings, where I tried to describe the vaporization plane's behavior.
Non-destructive survey of the oldest part of the castle in Telč

Recent archaeological findings discovered at an excavation in the southeastern section of the small courtyard of the old palace at the state castle in Telč sparked interest in further exploring hidden structures below ground and within the existing masonry. Therefore, a non-destructive survey of structures hidden beneath the current level of the courtyard using ground-penetrating radar was conducted, as was a survey of the masonry within the old walls of the palace using thermography.

Survey of the facial sandstone masonry of the stone coat of historic structures with the use of non-invasive analytical techniques of ground-penetrating radar

This conservation procedure includes a description of basic steps, which must be followed to use the ground-penetrating radar and to gain useful data for composition visualization of facial sandstone masonry used in historic structures. Suitable settings of the GPR device are introduced for collecting data and the way of their processing with the aid of software. The conservation procedure applies a non-invasive analytical technique of GPR when surveying stone structures and therefore it can be a useful specifying tool of particular details during the execution phase of the construction-historical survey

Assessment of masonry structures in the room No. 303 on the first floor of Upper Castle of Kunštát State Castle

Non-destructive evaluation techniques have been adopted to assess the present situation of the walls with recently discovered frescoes in the rebuilt part of the castle. IR thermography, videoscope and ground penetrating radar were used for the classification of masonry, especially for the detection of hidden structural elements. Samples of historic mortars were analysed by thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The analyses showed that binder of mortars consists of dolomitic lime.
