What do the novels start with ? To the poetics of incipit: based on the czech novels of the 20th century
Hozman, Václav ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on incipit of selected Czech novels of the twentieth century. This thesis deals with narrative work. The aim of the work is to analyze specific novel's beginnings, try to interpret them, to say what they signalize and to imply correlation of the incipit with the rest of the novel. The first chapter is dealing with the novel's beginnings in general. The author wants to refer to theoretical sources, which will become the base for the analysis of the chosen novel's incipit. The most important part is to define the term incipit as the entrance to the text world. That is the borderline of fiction and reality. The task of the incipit is to draw the reader into the fiction world of a novel. The incipit stops to be the incipit in the certain place of the book, the place where the reader is completely drown into the text world and where there is a point of no return. Each of the following chapters is focusing on the incipit of each of the book individually: Temno, Marketa Lazarova, Osudy dobreho vojaka Svejka za svetove valky, Hordubal, Zbabelci, Pribeh inzenyra lidskych dusi, Nesnesitelna lehkost byti and Obsluhoval jsem anglickeho krale. It was very important to keep the distance from knowing the whole book and to focus only on the beginning of the book from the reader's...
How to clasiffy Michal Viewegh's popular novels ?
Těšínská, Tereza ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the work of Michal Viewegh from the point of view of functional and value division of literary production. It tries to prove that bipolar model, established in Czech environment, in his case does not work, since it cannot be assigned not only to highbrow literature, nor to popular literature, because the work of Viewegh is in comparison with them too sophisticated. Therefore the author proposes to revive forgotten trichotomic model of literary classification and use it for situation Viewegh's work. The author, contrary to literary criticism, is of the opinion that every single Viewegh's novel does not substantially differentiate from each other. The author supports this argument using comparative analysis of positively and negatively evaluated novels, resulting into finding that both groups despite of differences in critical assessment contain the same constitutive characteristics that are typical for midcult. This conclusion is further investigated by comparison of selected Viewegh's works with prose works of typical writers, typically low (Lanczová) and high (Kundera) literary level, through their work with love theme. Result confirms the rightness of situation of Viewegh's literary prose into the midcult: Viewegh handles love's theme in a more sophisticated and...
Reader - response strategy of Lustig's texts
Zimová, Lucie ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
Dissertation deals with reader-response strategies of some Lustig's texts. Our aim is to prove if Lustig relies on high subject and culture encyclopedia of his readers or if his works have esthetic value without these requirements. First part of this dissertation is devoted to the theory of reader-response esthetic. We shortly present the main terms and representatives of this concept. In analysis of this works we concentrate us on the story as an interaction of the process, narration, figures and of the space because these levels are the most substantial part for the work response. Dissertation is always divided into theoretic part which introduces us with the solution for the next analysis and into practical part where we within our scope try to interpret the used strategies. In the chapter "Narration" we mainly focus us on narrator and his possible unreliability further on the speech form and the telling order and speed. In the chapter "Figure as a text phenomenon" we are mainly interested in figure condition and the process of its imaging. Finally in the chapter "Space and its functionality" we are concerned with the problem how Lustig manages (does not) to display functional space without relying on culture encyclopedia of his readers. This show us that Lustig calculates with response horizon and thus...
Computer game - a peculiar literal creation?
Kovaříková, Šárka ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
The bachelor thesis with the topic "Computer game - a peculiar literal creation?" consists of two parts. The first part introduces computer games in general and takes up the RPG genre, which is the closest one to literature due to its large content of text. It shows that for playing computer games similar abilities are needed as for reading books (mainly reading and information literacy). The term "flow-experience while playing computer games" is mentioned as well. Further, different scientific approaches, which can be applied to research about computer games can be found. The last topic of the first part describes fictional worlds, where different stories can take place. These stories are created by the different narrative categories - narrator and tale, time, space and characters. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to analysis and interpretation of the computer game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion". This part verifies that for playing computer games it is necessary to know special types of literacy. Besides that, the game shows one type of fictional world, where all the narrative categories create a specific world with its own rules.

Interactive narrativity
Lukešová, Anna ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis deals with the phenomenon of interactive narrativity, especially in codex-type texts. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the difficulties the current narratology has in coping with this kind of texts and to present an alternative approach to texts newly created mainly due to the development of modern technologies, the concept of cybertext postulated by Finnish theorist Espen Aarseth. Significant attention is focussed on the structural properties of this type of texts, which are the requirement of the feasibility of interactivity. The thesis is an attempt to assess generally both approaches and their advantages and disadvantages. The second part is devoted to an analysis of codex-type interactive texts. The aim of the list of selected literary works with an experimental structure is to demonstrate that interactive texts (or cybertexts) are based on the principles of traditional printed literature and are only an organic continuation of the experimental literature in another medium. A more detailed analysis of selected interactive texts aims to demonstrate the thesis of structural characteristics of interactive texts.
Poetics of title. In conception of contemporery Czech fiction
Lesák, Josef ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
At the beginning is this thesis about general poetics of title (functions of titles, historical poetics of title, typology of titles and about relations between the text and the title of a literary work). This thesis briefly concerns with specifics of contemporary Czech literature (literature after year 1989) and its titles. Further, it deals with ways of atractivization of titles. The focus of this thesis consists of analysis of titles of contemporary Czech fiction. We wanted to answer the question, what are the titles about, analyzing the titles of different genres and types of titles. The hypothesis about titles has been confirmed. In the majority of cases it is truth that titles are closely connected with the subject matter of the book. Furthermore, some of the titles tell us something about authors, about their biography and their poetics. Thanks to their form they can signalize theme or/and genre, but they do not predicate of affiliation to popular or artistic literature (titles of artistic and popular literature differentiate not by their form, but rather by fitting-in to the text of a book that seems to be better thought through in the case of artistic literature than in the case of popular literature). Subtitles mostly refer to genre and theme. We also state features of postmodern titles...
