Fertility tables and application of the method in the analysis of regional differentiation of fertility in Spain
Ukolova, Elizaveta ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Šťastná, Anna (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to construct period fertility tables according to Human Fertility Database methodology and different kinds of fertility indices, which are possible to derive from fertility table's functions. The method is then used when analysing regional differences in fertility behaviour among Spanish regions in 1981, 1991, 1999 and 2011. The study begins with a general overview of fertility trends in Spain. Then, the data part follows. Next, the methodology is discussed and some table's indices, which Human Fertility Database does not provide, are constructed. Following chapters focus on application of the method to real data. It was found out, that with the help of period fertility tables one can calculate not only the age and parity adjusted total fertility rate and the table mean age at birth, but also various transition probabilities between parity states and as well as other measures. All this could be done due to the possibility of deeper disaggregation of the table population. The main results obtained by applying the method brought several interesting findings. Most importantly, differences across regions in Spain have been disappearing over the years, but they still persist in some form, as regions with a higher fertility rate were concentrated in the southern part of the country in...

Naxera, Martin ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Šťastná, Anna (referee)
Regional differences in the population development of the USA, focusing on the 21st century Abstract This paper examines the population development problematics of four Census Regions of the USA designated by the U.S. Census Bureau during the time period of 2000-2017. Using the standard demographic analytical methods of public access population estimates, public health and migration data, significant differences are found. Most significant differences are found in case of the migration between Census Regions. Additionally, the paper examines the effect of the Great Recession, which was peaking during the years 2007-2009, on the population development. Benešová, Valentýna ; Šťastná, Anna (advisor) ; Kocourková, Jiřina (referee)
Impact of economic development on fertility in Czechia after 2000 Abstract The aim of this thesis is to explore the development of fertility in Czechia at the level of regions and districts and to compare it with the development of economy after 2000. The first part of the thesis summarizes the knowledge of fertility development and possible economic and other influences that affect it. Subsequently the development of unemployment and the development of fertility were analyzed, just like their relations in the Czech Republic between 2002-2017. The thesis is focused on the regional differentiation of the selected indicators. Most of the analysis was made at the level of the NUTS 3 of the Czechia. Hereby it can be confirmed that the economic development in the Czech Republic was very likely one of the important factors that also influenced the development of fertility. For a more detailed examination of patterns of reproductive behavior and unemployment a cluster analysis was made for territorial units at the level LAU 1. In this analysis the main indicators were included as well as their changes after 2008. This method managed to define several areas with identical fertility and unemployment characteristics. Key words: fertility, unemployment, economic development, Czechia, regional differentiation

Multi-child families: patterns and background
Faberová, Anna ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Šťastná, Anna (referee)
Multi-child families: patterns and background Abstract The scope of this thesis is to analyse fertility rate in the Czech Republic aiming at the third- and higher-order fertility rates. The objective consists in finding, defining and assessing the determinants and factors that may affect the higher-order fertility rates. As the pivotal source of the input data, the individual anonymized data from the Czech Republic Population and Housing Census held in 2011 were used. Only the data referring to women born in the period 1920-1971 that gave at least two live births were selected for the purpose of the detailed fertility rates analysis. The analysis was carried out by way of nominal logistic regression. The gain of the thesis is a detailed evaluation of the higher- order fertility rates pursuant to the four factors or determinants - concerning the women in question - that have been selected for this purpose, i.e.: highest level of completed education; size of the municipality of residence; religious belief; and characteristics according to the fertile partnerships. In particular the mutual links among the factors in question and the higher-order fertility rates are specified in the thesis. Keywords: multi-child families, fertility, higher-order fertility, generation, census, nominal logistic regression

Říhová, Kristýna ; Fialová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Šťastná, Anna (referee)
Regional differentiation of fertility according to legitimacy in the Czech Republic, 1993-2012 Abstract The aim of this thesis is to analyze the evolution of marital and extra-marital fertility in the Czech Republic between 1993-2012. In addition to a brief overview of the Czech Republic, the focus is on data for the districts. To demonstrate the developments and comparisons, we selected the starting and ending years and also the years 1999 and 2008. Thus, the years in when the least and the most children were born. Because of different numbers of births during the years surveyed between individual districts, comparisons of percentages of births were chosen. We have demonstrated that there are differences between districts and larger proportion of children who were born outside of marriage, especially single mothers in the districts in the northwest, the north, and the northeast of the Czech Republic. These data were illustrated in using cartograms with the help of ArcMac. We also focused on the relationship between the birth order of the child and the mother's marital status. Here, we demonstrated that the share of children born to single mothers is higher in children of the firstborn than of the second- and third- born. Keywords: Marital and extra-marital fertility, mother's marital status, birth order,...

Fertility postponement in the Czech republic and selected European countries in the period 1990−2015 Abstract We have been able to observe the trend of shifting of maternity to later periods of life in European countries since the second half of the 20th century. However crucial for this thesis is to determine whether there have been disparity in delaying of maternity between selected Eastern European (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland) and Western European (Germany and Austria) countries since 1990 till present. The goal of this work is to find the relationship among setting of family policies, fertility rate of older women and respondents' views. In the first part of this thesis are outlined basic theories explaining postponing of maternity. There are also listed consequences related to the late maternity. The thesis touches a topic of family policies which influence the phenomenon of late maternity. It presents several fundamental tools of family policies and compares them among selected countries. The second part focuses on a description of demographic indicators that demonstrate the shift in timing of maternity.
