Tribological characteristics of smart fluids

The master's thesis deals with experimental study of tribological characteristics of smart fluids. Smart fluids are substances in liquid state reacting to the presence of magnetic or electric field by change in rheological properties. For possible application in devices using conventional lubricants is necessary to choose suitable smart fluid and study the influence of excitation on formation of lubricating layer, friction and wear. Comprehensive description of excitation influence is executed using three experimental devices and theoretical model for measurements parameters specification. Assessed are lubricant film thickness, friction coefficient and wear under smart fluid activation in non-conformal contact. Results show significant observable influence of smart fluids excitation on all assessed aspects. Understanding the mechanisms of smart fluids excitation can be a key step in development of intelligent devices with active external control of lubricant behaviour and character, that could lead to maintenance cost reduction and effectivity improvement.

The Kalevala as a Source of Inspiration for J. R. R. Tolkien

This master's thesis deals with the influence of The Kalevala and the Finnish language on the English writer John Ronald Reuel Tolkien and his work. The main purpose is to provide a possibly most complex description of The Kalevala's influence on Tolkien. Firstly, the background of The Kalevala, the role of Elias Lönnrot during its birth and its importance, and secondly, Tolkien, his work and his discovery of The Kalevala are introduced. The main part of the thesis focuses on Tolkien's inspiration by The Kalevala out of three different perspectives. The first one is the influence of the Finnish language on Quenya, one of Tolkien's fictional languages. The second one is The Kalevala's importance for Tolkien from a general point of view - especially the influence of Lönnrot's role, The Kalevala's mythology, several abstract aspects of The Kalevala led by the importance of singing and The Kalevala's structure is crucial. The third one is Tolkien's inspiration by The Kalevala from a concrete point of view. Particularly the importance of The Kalevala's character Väinämöinen and the story of the Sampo is significant here.

Mathematical models of linear and nonlinear oscillators

This bachelor thesis deals with mathematical models of linear mechanical oscillators, which represent one of basic applications of ordinary differential equations. There are explained harmonic oscillators, damped oscillators and driven oscillators. The thesis discusses also superposition of oscillators and coupling of oscillators, including their synchronization.

Stability and chaos in nonlinear dynamical systems

Diplomová práce pojednává o teorii chaotických dynamických systémů, speciálně se pak zabývá Rösslerovým systémem. Kromě standardních výpočtů spojených s bifurkační analýzou se práce zaměřuje na problém stabilizace, konkrétně na stabilizaci rovnovážných bodů. Ke stabilizaci je využita základní metoda zpětnovazebního řízení s časovým zpožděním. Významnou část práce tvoří zavedení a implementace obecné metody pro hledání vhodné volby parametrů vedoucí k úspěšné stabiliaci. Dalším diskutovaným tématem je možnost synchronizace dvou Rösslerových systémů pomocí různých synchronizačních schémat.

The issue of heat treated waste and optimization of properties for their use in construction

Given the increasing consumption of plastic materials their reuse becomes a very topical issue. Recycling the single-cleaned plastic waste is simple, these products can be used as raw material or additive in the manufacture of new products. The problem remains the energy, economic and environmental demands in sorting, cleaning and eventual regranulation of waste to a suitable feedstock. This problem can be solved using technology that is able to handle multiple-type waste thermoplastics in further useful products.

Development of strong adjectives in Early Middle English

This bachelor's thesis is concerned with the systemic change affecting the endings of adjectives as corresponding to the Old English strong and weak adjectival forms, which took places largely during the first half of the Middle English period. The analysis contained therein was executed using the PPCME2, from which adjectives ending in two types of consonant clusters were selected based on their possible lack of participation in the emerging orographic system that, to this day, uses the final -e diacritically to indicate qualities of the root vowel without it's having the value of the vowel wherein the opposition between the two types of adjectives lay. This analysis took into consideration other factors, phonological and orthographical, but also casal, as well as presence of various determiners. The analysis underway, a surprising tendency was observed in the examined material: to extend the strong/weak opposition to adjectives in the dative case, and that during the first quarter of the period. Analysis of phonological factors confirmed that this phenomenon must have been morphological in nature. Native lexical innovations in Middle English (1200-1500): a word-formation perspective

This thesis examines suffixation in Middle English in the periods 1200-1299 and 1300-1399. More specifically, the work is focussed on nominal coinages of native origin only, formed with the suffixes -ness, -head / -hood, -ship and -dom, where the aim is to observe their productivity in time. In the theoretical part, we explore the contribution of external (socio-political) and internal (typological and word-formational) factors to changes in the English language, including word-formation processes. Our hypothesis is that suffixation as a word-formation process will continue strongly, despite the ongoing language-internal changes and the overwhelming influx of foreign words. Data for this research was collected from The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) through Advance Search. The data retrieved for each suffix was considered from a morphological, structural and lexico-semantic perspective. The analyses were performed to detect changes in the behaviour of each suffix and to discover the realities attesting their productivity. Apartment building Sadová

The subject of the Bachelor's thesis is an elaboration of documentation for construction of an apartment house in Brno, district of Brno-Sadová. This is a detached building on a slightly sloping ground with three floors above ground and one underground floor with 10 residential units. The basement floor is designed from forged blocks a lost shuttering. Ground floor consists of a design system of ceramic bricks. Ceiling construction are monolithic reinforced concrete and building roofing is solved by warm flat roof

Old English prose adjectives meaning "holy": towards a characterization of a lexical field

The work attempts to contribute to mapping of the lexical field of HOLINESS in Old English prosaic texts. The lexical field in this work is represented by four adjectives (halig, gebletsod, gesælig, gehalgod) which are chosen from the Thesaurus of Old English from which one - halig is chosen to be analysed in this work. The mapping of this adjective is conducted in the York-Helsinki Parsed Corpus of Old English Prose by identifying morphological and syntactical categories of the adjective (predicative, attributive; both pre-positive and post-positive functions) as well as by the collocational sets (conceptual fields). The results then show the ways in which the adjective differs in named categories in relations to its collocational set. The work is also interdisciplinary as the interpretation of the collocational sets is based both on philological as well as theological bases due to the fact that halig mainly appears in religious texts.
