Self-assessment of pupils at the lower secondary school
Nováková, Šárka ; Starý, Karel (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee)
The study aims to find out whether pupils of the 2nd grade of selected elementary schools in Prague 4 are able to effectively refine themselves. The main question that this diploma thesis deals with is the question whether pupils at the 2nd grade of elementary schools are equipped with such cognitive competences and vocabulary to handle this difficult role in the form of self-reflection. The sub-objectives identified the views of pupils at the 2nd grade and their teachers on self-esteem as pupils compose every quarter of their achievement and behavior assessments, record their progress and reflect on other areas where they could improve. The data was obtained through an on-line questionnaire survey and was evaluated using descriptive statistics tools. The research was carried out at the above-mentioned elementary school in Prague 4. Out of 211 pupils of the second grade, 184 pupils participated in the research. Overall 9 teachers from the total number of 17 with the approval for the second grade of primary school filled the questionnaire survey. Another type of survey is the analysis of selected quarterly self-evaluation of pupils and subsequent interviews with selected pupils. The results show pupils' incompetence towards a quarterly self-assessment. There is also a problem in the form of...
Reading cubes and their role for reading pre-literacy development
Waldaufová, Petra ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Ronková, Jolana (referee)
This thesis focuses on work with reading cubes and with game named Story Cubes. It deals with possibilities how to use it to support reading literacy, understanding of text and speech development of pre-school children. The theoretical part first introduces characteristics of preschool children and describes reading literacy development in preschool age. Then it deals with principles of work with reading cubes and Story Cubes and with possibilities to use it in kindergarten. The thesis also includes a practical part which suggests other usage options for reading cubes. There are created specific lessons with reading cubes for preschool children, which follow the rules and recommendations mentioned in the theoretical part. These lessons were repeatedly implemented at kindergarten to be able to observe reading literacy development of each child in time. The hypothesis that preschool children can use selected reading strategies while working with reading cubes, and at the same time, these readership activities support the interest of children in books and related activities, proved to be correct. These children also expanded their vocabulary and improved expressing abilities through Story Cubes activities. Case Study: An Implementation of Formative Assessment into Education
Raška, Dominik ; Starý, Karel (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee)
The Diploma Thesis named Case Study: Implementing Formative Assessment into Education focuses on formative assessment and its place as well as specifics in educational reality from two perspectives - it aims at first-hand experience of teachers and pupils, and it also examines the whole-school process of implementing this change into education. The thesis' goal is to identify formative assessment as means of functional feedback between teachers and pupils, and to offer personal experience with implementing formative assessment into education from the point of view of teachers as well as pupils. The theoretical part characterises the formative assessment's major features along with methods and techniques and their respective benefits. The theoretical part further offers an overlook of how the process of implementing changes into schools can be managed. The empirical part then presents findings from a research aimed at implementing specific parts of formative assessment into practice at a selected school. Finally, the results point out mainly the crucial influence of management of the change on the overall outcome of the process and the gradual change of views and motivations of leading actors. Usefulness of visual aids and other teaching methods and techniques for learning selected areas of Czech orthography by foreign pupils with regard to styles and types of learning
Bařtipánová, Petra ; Horáčková, Klára (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on how it is suitable for pupils with different mother tongue to learn selected orthographic phenomena. The aim of the thesis is to find out which activities or methods the teacher can use to achieve the highest memorability of orthographic phenomena by pupils with a different mother tongue with respect to their teaching types and styles. High attention is paid to the method of working with visual aids. This diploma thesis focuses on problematic orthographic phenomena taught from the third to the fifth year of elementary school, which are difficult to justify for pupils with a different mother tongue. To achieve the highest quality of research several qualitative methods were used, namely observation, testing and semi-structured interviews with pupils and class teachers. The knowledge presented in the theoretical part of the thesis is an important basis for the processing of the empirical part itself. Within the empirical part, I elaborated a case study of nine pupils with a different mother tongue. The results of the survey show that the ready-made visual aids helped most pupils. During preparation of three lessons, I took into account all the learning types and styles, which proved to be effective. On the other hand, the dominance of type or style has not always been...
The Typology of Female Characters in George R. R. Martin's Series A Song of Ice and Fire
Válek, Filip ; Zimová, Lucie (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee)
This thesis deals with the typology of Martin's characters, which, during their stories, undergo a development that significantly distinguish their character traits, which gives us the opportunity to categorize them into literary types. A consistent confrontation with biographical texts is necessary to understand the selection and character typing. A brief biography is mentioned in the first chapter. The basic principles on which these typologies are based on are presented in the second chapter. This bachelor thesis deals not solely with the main female characters of the saga, but specifically with those undergoing a crucial character development. Six of the most prominent female types were determined - a manipulative woman, a mother, a woman desiring the throne, a woman not following the standards, a mad woman, and a woman controlled by the fate. Each category has its own chapter devoted to it with a brief introduction to the issue and is represented by several characters corresponding to the given typology. It is also considered how the characters proceed in the same way or how they differ following the characteristics of the given type. These are literary types that can be valid even in the real world and depict basic human qualities, although they are set in a completely fictional world and are...
Children's books from the Baobab publishing house for pre-schoolchildren and their role in the development of the reading literary
Smutná, Petra ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Hník, Ondřej (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the uniqueness of the Baobab publishing house books for pre-school children and to find out what is the opinion of parents and pre- school teachers on selected books from this publishing house, on their content and on their graphic design. In the theoretical part I describe and explain the basic concepts of the reading literacy. I also devote to the contemporary situation in the book market for children, especially pre- school children, mostly non-readers. I focus on a small alternative publishing house called Baobab, its book production for children in general, and on its awarded books. In the empirical part I interviewed parents (41 returned questionnaires altogether) about their awareness and opinion on the Baobab publishing house and on selected books published by Baobab, namely Jak zvířataspí (How Animals Sleep), Šmalcova ABECEDA (Šmalec's Alphabet) and Z domu a zahrady (From the House And the Garden). I also interviewed 7 pre- school teachers to find out about their awareness of the Baobab publishing house and about their opinion on the selected books. Unlike the parents, all teachers had known the publishing house. It was proved that although the publishing house was awarded several prizes for its children's books (especially for the graphic design), the...
