NEW FOOTBALL STADIUM FOR BRNO Have to be stadium inert, ingrown arena, which turns on its back to its context? The first idea of the concept was inspired by the impressions from the exhibition of Dutch photographer Hans van Meer. Common to all of his football photographs are sceneries of country-side or cities that serve as a background for amateur football matches. Football played in the open air just for the joy from the game and in the presence of astonishing scene appears almost poetic. Is it possible to transfer at least partly such poetic into a football stadium? Locality near to Lužánky is outstanding exactly because of its context. It is placed next to the center of Brno with possibility of the view at the panoramas of Petrov and castle Veveří. The idea to connect the fans´ impression of a game with genius loci of the city, where the match takes place, strongly influenced the conceptual solution to the stadium. It enables fans to watch football game not only in the atmosphere of the simmering stadium, but also with a dash of poetic of the far-away view. The concept is based on four minimalistic desks of the tribunes clamped into the pace of the adjoining functions of the stadium. The tribunes are interconnected through rope frame, which roofs the tribunes and simultaneously co-functions as a single construction unit. This concept resulted in a complex solution to the construction from concrete, steel – compression and tension members that would enable practical implementation of this idea.

Old - new urban spa
Hoffová, Monika ; Šindlar, Jiljí (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is a spa reconstruction in the Brno-Židenice district. The area of the whole parcel consists of winter spa building as well as summer aquapark (pool, spa) with the summer part belonging to it. The building of the city spa in Zábrdovice designed by Bohuslav Fuchs back in 1932 is a monument indeed: not only is it a valuable building but it is also an irreplaceable source of the knowledge about it. The building represents the finest work of the Brno’s architect from his most productive era and it demonstrates the way the inland architecture has always been able to respond to the the global trends. It also documents the culture influence of the mid-war Brno in which the young and fresh avantgard style has gained an unambiguous support of the political governance of the city. Finally, it indicates the confidence of that era which was determined to overcome the problems of the old world once and for all. More than eighty years later there could not be found use for the original function and so a renaissance must happen. Not only a purpose and a spirit of the building must be found but it also needs to be adapted to the contemporary demands so as not to lose the historical value. This thesis will also be dealing with the urbanistic solution of the surroundings, especially the Zbrojovka grounds which are situated in the close proximity of the spa. It is a very extensive place that used to be very significant and unique industrial grounds, but nowadays it is closed. It could, however, become unique again and along with the Bohuslav Fuchs’s jewel it could bring a new life to the whole district.
Extension FA Ljubljana
Tomková, Iva ; Marek, Jiří (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
The old building of the Faculty of Architecture has inconvenient spaces on the back - south- facade on both sides of the staircase . These two parts were added in later times, in the second half of the 20th century. Into the height of the old building, with high ceilings was crammed twice the number of floors. This resulted in a complicated tangle of small spaces, stairs etc. Headroom is not in allowed limit everywhere. The proposal is based on replacing these two parts with completely new design / independent of old building/. There were several initial basic options and requirements. It is a steel structure in the module 2,9 x 2,9 meters. The volume increases to width with increasing height. It does not occupy a place for access on the ground and at the same time it creates shelter for parked bicycles. In floor plans the new building is divided into two parts. One of the offices, which all have the same ceiling height – 2,9 meters. The remaining part is the so-called multifunctional semi-public, serving to relax, work, presentations, waiting for consultations, ... Each array of module is placed in different height, they're making different levels and different optically connected spaces. Movement through these levels is spiraling and is achieved to entrance from all the existing floor's levels in the old building. The steel bearing structure is fitted with translucent glass. Due to it new spaces are very light and emotionally larger. New volumes are lightweight, transparent and you can see an old original facade through them. Number of office's working places compared to the original number 36 raised to 40 chairs. On the ground floor have been newly designed toilets that are missing and number of booths was expanded to each floor.

The subject of this diploma thesis is the design of a study of a sacral object - the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Brno, Líšeň. The church building is complemented by a spiritual center. The construction program is limited to the following: the church building, with its facilities - parking spaces, rehearsal room, flower preparation room, sale of small items with a rest area; main nave of the church, choir, space for children with parents, chapel; background of the sacristy - confessional, parish office, sacristy, depositary. Another part of the building program are the premises of the spiritual center: reception, foundation offices with archives, conference room, Sunday school classroom, multifunctional hall, club room, 3 apartments with a separate chapel. Everything is complemented by technical and hygienic facilities. The design is extended by relaxation areas in the vicinity, which expand the portfolio of civic amenities in the area. The design includes both sacral and profane functions. The spiritual center is therefore of a multifunctional nature and offers stimuli both for the Salesian community and for the local inhabitants of the adjacent settlement. Their meeting center is Kostelní náměstí, which meets in the axes of the two main directions of arrival from Horníkova Street and from the Salesian Youth Center. The foreground with seating and sale of small items serves the general public, which can continue to use the multifunctional hall for concerts, lectures, exhibitions. The premises of the clubhouse, classroom and the Parish Atrium will be used for educational and other activities for children, their parents and grandparents and other social groups. The spiritual center also enables the official activities of the foundation with the possibility of using the surrounding facilities. Architectural study of the sacral object Brno - Líšeň / second stage
Šebela, Vojtěch ; Hrabec, Josef (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
The topic of the diploma thesis is the design of the Roman Catholic Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Brno Líšeň. The building will complement the needs of the Salesian community, which has been operating in the nearby Salesko youth house for almost 30 years and focuses on educating young people using methods from Don Bosco. The design of the church also envisages the construction of facilities for parishioners and accommodation for Salesians. It should also serve not only the current community, but also the general public. The design offers a solution how to modernize a building of these dimensions into an urban complex such as a housing estate in modern times. All this with an emphasis on minimizing the negative impacts on existing residents who use the surrounding areas for recreation. The building will consist of two functional units. The first will consist of a church building with a capacity of 300 seated and 100 standing parishioners. The second part will be a parish center with a community hall for 100 people. There will also be apartments for priests, a hobby workshop and parish offices.
Senior citizens home Sokolnice
Vávra, Vít ; Šindlar, Jiljí (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The area of the former barracks lies near Sokolnice falling into the periphery of Brno. It is a picturesque village that has a rich history. The barracks are located on a hill called Stará hora, there are several cadastral areas. Near the building, we can find a radar that manages the nearby Brno airport, or the Peace Mound built on the Prateck Hill, soldiers fall to remembrance. The design principle was based on the given operation and its related functions. Dining room, rehabilitation, barber, pedicure, buffet and, last but not least, a multifunctional hall with a small library. The destruction of the unnecessary transformer station and the replenishment of the mass was a logical solution to the situation. It is an assembled reinforced concrete frame 8x8m. Inside the half-block we find a terrace with a pool, which is trying to create a specific microclimate and humidify the surroundings. The pool also serves as a retention tank and the house effectively manages rainwater. Within the lifetime, because of the corrosion of reinforced concrete and the unclear condition of the structure, I designed the exterior cladding to demolish and build a new cladding, a brick made of ceramic blocks. The house is designed in a minimalist spirit and cooperates with the greenery in its surroundings. Especially in long-distance views of integration into the landscape, this greenery is valued. The spirit of place in heavy air bears a strange whiff of dragging death that, when thinking about the history of a place, froze and freezes ... so perhaps while resting before the last journey ... that house discourages and breathes a little life into dying ...
Viladům Masarykova quarter - Brno
Bajgarová, Karolína ; Marek, Jiří (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor) ; Hradil, Dušan (advisor)
The basis of this bachelor´s thesis is the architectural study elaborated in subject AG032. This study is elaborated into the Documentation for Building Permit and subsequently in the Documentation for Construction Execution. The topic of the thesis is the Viladům in the Masaryk´s quarter in Brno. The proposed building is located in the city district of Brno - Central in the cadastral area Stránice. The solved plot is situated in a residential villa of Masaryk´s quarter. The area is sloping and offers a view of Brno. On the site there is currently a dilapidated family house with a series of poor quality construction interventions and a separate garage on the border of the land. The topic of the assignment was the design of an above-standard apartment building on the corner of streets Roubalova and Helceletova. The aim of my work was to propose an architectural study that addresses spatial and mass connection to the existing building structure of the site. Functional filling is housing in 4 apartments of which one is duplex. It also offers cellars to each apartment, common household equipment and ample parking spaces in the garage. All apartments are luxurious, spacious with superior amenities. The building has 4 aboveground and 1 underground floor. The roof is flat and the fourth floor is retreated from all sides. The main entrance is oriented to the north and the entrance to the garage is oriented to the east of the adjacent road. There is a green area around the house. The structure is a block of 12.6 m high. The windows are designed for the whole floor height, because in the Masaryk´s quarter there are mainly vertical windows. There is used a horizontal divider showing the cornice on the facade. The receding last floor shows the sloping roof that is used in this quarter. Used material, the shapes and dimensions of the filling of holes and the division of the facade does not disturb the architectural character of the surroundings.
