Comparing reactive techniques to classical planning for intelligent virtual agents
Černý, Martin ; Gemrot, Jakub (advisor) ; Balyo, Tomáš (referee)
Many contemporary computer games can be described as dynamic real-time simulations inhabited by autonomous intelligent virtual agents (IVAs) where most of the environment structure is immutable and navigating through the environment is one of the most common activities. Though controlling the behaviour of such agents seems perfectly suited for action planning techniques, planning is not widely adopted in existing games. This paper attempts to answer the question whether the current academic planning technology is ready for integration to existing games and under which conditions. The paper compares reactive techniques to classical planning in handling the action selection problem for IVAs in game-like environments. Several existing classical planners that occupied top positions in the International Planning Competition were connected to the virtual environment of Unreal Development Kit via the Pogamut platform. Performance of IVAs employing those planners and IVAs with reactive architecture was measured on a class of game like test environments under different levels of external interference. It was shown that agents employing classical planning outperform reactive agents only if the size of the planning problem is small or if the environment changes are either hostile to the agent or not very frequent.
Dispersion of freshwater gastropods
Buďová, Jana ; Černý, Martin (advisor) ; Juřičková, Lucie (referee)
Freshwater gastropods (Mollusca: Gastropoda) belong to two tradional taxonomic groups: prosobranchs (Prosobranchia) and pulmonates (Pulmonata). Most of these molluscs are characterized by low vagility. Therefore they usually rely on passive dispersal. Their dispersal vectors are mostly birds and water. Animals can transport snails both externally and internally. Direct methods (capture.mark.recapture, radio - tracking) and genetic methods could be used to study dispersal. For genetic studies can be used many type of molecular markers, but the recently most popular are microsatellites. According to recent studies, the dispersal of freshwater gastropods is probably not as frequent and wide - spread as assumed before. Key words: freshwater snails, dispersal, dispersal vectors, capture - mark - recapture, molecular markers, population genetics
The Normans in the southern Italy and Sicily in the 11th and 12th century
Černý, Martin ; Drška, Václav (referee)
The diploma thesis entitled "The Normans in the Southern Italy and Sicily in the 11th and 12th Century" includes the history of the region from the arrival of the first Norman warriors to the accession of the Staufen dynasty. It describes the fortunes of Norman mercenaries who were providing their military services to the antagonized parties competing in southern Italy. Progressively, the Normans built important military and political power in the territory. Robert Guiscard conquered southern Italy and threatened the Byzantine Empire in the Balkan Peninsula while his brother Roger I defeated Arabians and seized Sicily. Roger II, son of Roger I, overruled the other Norman domains but he had to repress an extensive revolt in his land. During the rule of his successors, the Kingdom was struck by inner conflicts as well, but the successors managed to overcome these difficulties. On William II's death, a war of succession broke out between Emperor Henry VI and Tancred of Lecce. Finally, the Tancred's death made a decision of war. After that Henry VI conquered the Sicilian Kingdom. Key words: Normans, the Middle Ages, Italy, Sicily, kingdom of Sicily, 11th century, 12th century.
Zooplankton community development in newly created small pools
Vondrák, Daniel ; Černý, Martin (advisor) ; Devetter, Miloslav (referee)
The relative importance of local and regional factors to community build-up is a core issue in contemporary ecology. Studies based on research of newly created aquatic habitats may improve understanding of these processes. We monitored zooplankton colonization rates and community assemblage in 20 newly dug and isolated temporary pools in Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. The region is characterised by deep stream valleys, extensive land use, low human influence, low waterfowl migration activity and practically absence of large water bodies. After the first hyproperiod all temporary pools were rebuilt to a permanent form. In contrast to expectations, in both cases we observed immediate colonization of newly created habitats by two main groups of zooplankton (crustaceans and rotifers), but only rotifers (Rotifera) were capable of fast successful establishment of viable populations. Cladocerans (Crustacea: Cladocera) and copepods (Crustacea: Copepoda) were observed rarely and usually in low abundances (< 1 ind-l ). 10 months after the filling of permanent pools one ostracod species (Crustacea: Ostracoda), Notodromas monacha, was recorded as well. During the 8 months of temporary pools existence the presence of 1 cladoceran and 1 cyclopoid copepod species and 12 rotifer taxa was recorded, icluding...

The burial-ground of early Roman period in Ohnišťany (distr. Hradec Králové)
Černý, Martin ; Salač, Vladimír (referee) ; Košnar, Lubomír (advisor)
This BA dissertation evaluates archeological discoveries from a burial-ground dated back to the early Roman period which was discovered during a ploughing 1,4 km southeastern far from a village Ohnišťany (Distr. Hradec Králové). Most of the findings became a part of a depository of National Museum in Prague (56 finds). Eight graves with brooches, knifes, scissors and weapons are preserved. The disturbed graves have afforded a number of romanprovincial imports - bronze vessels (for example a service of a dipper and a strainer of a type Eggers 162 with a stamp of a producer C MANSVANNII) and brooches from eastern and western provinces. Distance contacts from territory of Baltic tribes are documented by a belt fastener. In the place of a present village a contemporary settlement is evidenced by field observations. The large number of imports evidently relate to a very good connection with a trade network.
Sewing pattern editor
Černý, Martin ; Poch, Tomáš (referee) ; Šerý, Ondřej (advisor)
Sewing pattern construction is a fundamental part of garment design. The subject of this thesis is the implementation of an editor of sewing patterns, that would suite the needs of independent apparel designers and custom apparel manufacturers. The editor follows closely the procedure of manual pattern design and thus is easy to use for the designer. The final program covers the most vital steps in pattern design. Patterns created in the program can be reused for different customers, since they automatically adjust to given body measures.
