Černohorská, Vanda ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Matonoha, Jan (referee)
Černohorská, Vanda. 2012. Feminist Philosophy of Language: Critical Analysis of Concept of Gender-Sensitive Language. Diploma thesis. Prague: FHS UK. Character Count: 125 043 My thesis presents and critically analyses the concept of gender-sensitive language within the context of feminist philosophy of language. The chosen approach combines the evolution of theoretical presumptions with historical development of the sub-discipline. Therefore, the work offers not only excursion into the development of language and gender research from the seventies until today but also focuses on the fundamental "turns" such as shift from language to discourse and the deconstruction of subject. It also presents some thoughts about the future development of modern gender linguistics which is based on a presumption that in order to achieve successful expansion of the field there needs to be consistent philosophical and theoretical foundations for creating necessary arguments and researches as well as emancipative strategies.
Comparison of Karmapas statements by critical discourse analysis in the light of postmaterialistic values concept defined by Inglehard
Doubková Brodská, Barbora ; Váně, Jan (advisor) ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (referee)
This dissertation is mainly focused on schism in the Karma-kagjü school. The death of the 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje († 1981), the head of Kagjüpa plunged Karma-kagjü school to inner struggle for power and prestige. Enmity was making progress slowly and hiddenly. Situation graded in clandestine fashion and culminated in 1992 when Ogyen Trinley Dorje was enthroned in Tibet as 17th Karmapa. Some of the regents had doubt about him being the Karmapa and consequently enthroned their own candidate for 17th Karmapa. This act entirely divided the Karma-kagjü school. The primary motive and goal of my dissertation is to find presence of materialistic or postmaterialistic values defined by Ronald Inglehart (Inglehart 1997) in interviews given by 17th Karmapas. I'm looking for difference in values and my methodical instrument is critical discourse analysis. After comparison of interviews of both 17th Karmapas I find the difference in their values. My conclusion is that when Ogyen Trinley Dorje has more materialistic values than Trinley Thaye Dorje. This dissertation contains history of Tibet, history of Buddhism in Tibet and foreign relation interference in practice of Buddhism in Tibet (China and Mongolia). In addition I describe political situation of Tibet and Tibetan exile government which interfere in...

Šámalová, Klára ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
This thesis is focused on the impact of the current conflict on the status of Iraqi women. It extends my diploma thesis from the year 2007. With the aid of a comparative method, this thesis attempts to compare and contrast the situation of women during the period of Baath regime with the conditions after the US-led invasion. First of all, it discusses a position of feminism within the field of the International Relations and also a general impact of violent conflicts and wars on the situation of women. In comparison with the diploma thesis, a new chapter focused on the role of women in Muslim countries was added. Following chapter is devoted to the status of women prior the Baath regime seized the power. The core part of the thesis consists of the chapters 4 and 5 which include several sub-chapters. Chapter 4 describes the role of women during the rule of Baath regime and Saddam Hussein and it is structured according to time line. Chapter 5 deals with the situation of women in current Iraq. Compared to the diploma thesis, new data are available and a new sub-chapter focused on the period 2008 - 2010 was added. Finally, the last chapter of the thesis concentrates on the situation of Kurdish women in the northern part of the country. The main question of this thesis is: "Has the status of Iraqi women...
Gender aspects of Czech Scouting. Why would girls join Scouting?
Žárská, Magdaléna ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (referee)
This thesis presents data gained from qualitative research that took place in Prague, Czech Republic in 2009. Based on semi-structured interviews with kids from Scout Groups it analyzes gender aspects of Czech Scouting. In my thesis, I introduce a short history of the Scout Movement in the world, as well as in the Czech Republic with a specific interest in the formation of the Girl Scouting. My assumption is that Czech scouting offers special environment for gender sensitive education without realizing the great potential. I suggest that the absence of coeducation in the scout units is the key element in gender sensitive education with the opportunity for the children to try freely whatever they wish for without being pressurized by the social prejudices about their gender which I try to verify through the experiences of the children.
