Changes in teenage magazines after 1989

The intent of thesis "Changes in teenage magazines after 1989" is to present main themes and communication methods pointed to teenage magazine readers, as they were changed during the time. Questions about media in negative or positive forms are presented by the influence on socialization, the key period in every person's life. In introducing part are discussed basic theories about influence, functions and necessary education of children and teenagers in domain of media and there is a brief description of progress in Czech media scene. Second part of the thesis contains analysis which deals with two most widely read teenage magazines in 1989 and in 2007. My purpose is by analyzing communication methods and finding main themes in text to identify main subjects and presented world, which media bring forward to readers. Children and teenagers are not only passive recipients of media influence; they can make active use of media and choose interesting contents, nevertheless the presented world and offered examples of behavior are important and they influence them a lot.
Gender blending and queer performativity in the music videos of Lady Gaga

This bachelor thesis examines how queer performativity and gender blending are shown in the music video clips of Lady Gaga. The thesis attemp to find and analyse through the means of the semiotic analysis and explain their meaning. The thesis is based on theoretical gender definition and on two constructivism concepts: Doing gender by West and Zimermann and gender performativity by Judith Butler. The thesis employs the queer concept as the reconstruction of sexual minorities but also as an analytic lens that deconstructs the normative social structure. The author defines the various elements leading to gender blending and queer performativity in four music videos clips and concluded that Lady Gaga repeatedly violates gender stereotypes and disturbs the majority view on heteronormative social settings by using specific videos elements representing different kinds of sexuality in her music videos.
Gender analysis of the LGBT community web portals in the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis Gender analysis of LGBT community websites in the Czech Republic focuses on the topic of LGBT communities from a gender point of view. It specifically examines how the LGBT community is represented on websites intended for the LGBT community's members. The original research consists of a qualitative content analysis of websites, which examines the effect of registered partnership on the emancipation of LGBT communities in the Czech Republic. The research focuses on theoretical perspectives regarding the community, political identity, and the construction of sexuality. The diploma thesis takes the assumption that the LGBT community continues to fight for equality in society, and so its aim is to determine what types of goals and activities are presented by individual websites. Gay pornography as an affirmation and as a parody. Gender aspects of gay pornography

The aim of the work is the analysis of gay pornography from a gender perspective, which examines the anchoring process of gender and sexual stereotypes and the present opportunity and space for subversion or alternative reading. Particular attention is paid to the question of what role in the design and interpretation of these potentially subversive or affirmative moments plays a transgression of gender stereotypes and norms and related pornographic conventions based on heterosexist sexual dynamics and hierarchies. Furthermore, this work focuses on examining the role as a potential affirmative or parody pornography plays in relation to gay activism and emancipation movement, that focuses on the representation of collective identity and subculture and the structural transformation of these representations in commercially oriented pornography industry across time. For this purpose, the empirical part analysis of randomly selected gay pornographic images of Czech provenance of certain development stages of this genre in our country with a special emphasis on politics displaying protected and / or unprotected sex, and discursive compliance of these policies and their visual representations.
Education to Anorexia? Women suffering from eating disorders narrate about their Family environment - qualitative research

This thesis describes the relation between eating disorders and the patients' or their relatives' interpretation of family environment. The author aims to reveal differences in the educational philosophy applied in the upbringing of patients with mental anorexia or mental bulimia. First of all the terms "family environment" and "educational style" are defined using the Lewin typology. It is based on the assumption that mental anorexia is aligned with strict education causing strict behaviour when being on diet while mental bulimia is associated with less strict education reflecting itself in an imperfect compliance with the diet plan. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis summarizes current knowledge of eating disorders with focus on social factors and family. The practical part is based on the author's own qualitative research based on an analysis of twenty narrative interviews with the patients, their mothers and one stepfather. The research takes into account the parents' professions, focus on the body, sporting nature of the families, the applied educational style, the ideal upbringing idea in relation to the applied one, it also deals with what helps the ill, and there is also focus on siblingship, divorces and intergenerational relations. Friendship between heterosexual woman nad homosexual man and its effect on the social construction of identities

The thesis deals with a friendship between heterosexual woman and homosexual man, the way it is created, the way it is maintained and the threats it has to face. The thesis defines the meaning of essential theoretical concepts such as gender, sexuality, friendship or intimacy and trust. It is based on ten semi-structured interview with women who define the relationship with their gay friends as a close one. It reflects ways, how gender and sexual identities are negotiated in the friendship, puts friendship with a gay man into a broader context of friendly relationships in a heteronormative society and traditional binary oppositions of feminine and masculine. The thesis also looks into strategies of how the informants construct their own identity, identity of their gay friend ad where they place the boundaries of this relationship.

The comparison of ČT1 and TV Nova evening newscasts from a gender perspective Study is focused on the comparison of ČT1 (Události) and TV Nova (Televizní noviny) evening newscasts from a gender perspective. In my diploma thesis I follow some feminist studies that were done mainly in the anglo-american context - I try to verify if western theories about androcentrism in television newscast are valid in the czech context. My study is primarily based on the quantitative content analysis of the news - I am interested in aspects like gender inequality, representations of men and women (alternatively of transgender people), gender roles, gender stereotypes (reproduction or subversion) and reflection of the feminist thought by these media. The main aim of reasearch is to compare evening newscasts of leading czech public television (ČT1) and leading czech commercial television (TV Nova) - I try to find out if the commitment of public service has an influence on the gender aspects of these newscasts.
