Bohemian poor law in years 1918-1938 and its historical roots
Pátra, Milan ; Rákosník, Jakub (advisor) ; Pullmann, Michal (referee)
The transformation of the poor law into modern social assistance, that represents one of the free pillars of the contemporary welfare state, has been a very long process. Until the Age of Enlightenment the Church played an expressive role in this respect. Afterwards it came from the state, which created rules of law to insure the considerable part of the population against illness, injury and old age by means of social insurance. Despite all this, there survived the specific group of people that was distinct from the existing system. Hence came the field of activity for municipalities and associations that were in charge of this business. This thesis focuses on development and activity of these organisations. It takes Prague as a model on the municipal scale and the former district of Brandýs nad Labem on the scale of associations' activity.
Personality cult: Rudolf Slánský and making of the Communist dictatorship
Chadima, Jan ; Pullmann, Michal (advisor) ; Rákosník, Jakub (referee)
This thesis is on Rudolf Slánský and covers the years from 1945 until his execution at the end of 1952 following a show trial. Rudolf Slánský was General Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia which made him the second most powerful man in the party and later in the country also. Slánský's character is analysed from several points of view. His activities in establishing the Communist Party are key and this part of the thesis deals with how the party looked under Slánský's leadership, how its organisational structure was shaped and how its membership base developed. Other important activities of Slánský concerning the years 1945-1948, February 1948 and finally his involvement in the post- February repressions are also examined in the text. Analysis of these political activities is used to explore his attitudes, thoughts and ideas. The aim is to present Slánský in the way he presented himself to society. Another key part of the thesis is how Slánský was portrayed. This part of the text looks at how Slánský was officially presented to society and how on the basis of this he was viewed by society. The aim here is to analyse how Slánský was presented during his fiftieth birthday in contrast with how he was presented to society during his trial. The text then focuses on analysing how Slánský...
Problem behaviors of the youth in the first half of the 20th century in the Czech lands
Social life of the Germans, Czechs and Jews in Podmokly (Bodenbach) 1848-1918
Z hlediska národnostního, náboženského i sociálního se zde vytvořila pestrá směs, jež se dynamicky vyvíjela až do osudového roku 1938. Pokusím se v hrubých obrysech načrtnout obraz Děčínska a historický vývoj Děčína, následně přiblížím historický a hospodářský vývoj Podmokel a poukáži na...
Plantation guild in Louny (1885-1948) as an example of development of the Czech civil class
Kučera, Petr ; Rákosník, Jakub (referee) ; Jakubec, Ivan (advisor)
This text deals with the history of one of many affinity groups originating in Louny in the second half of the 19th century - the Plantation Guild in Louny. The activity of the Plantation Guild in Louny (1885 - 1948) comprised setting of trees in the town streets and planting of parks in the neighbourhood of the town. Both the activity and the members of this guild are interesting. Till the beginning of the First World War there were many people, who had a considerable influence on the life in the town, in the guild. These people of middle class worked as lawyers, pharmacists, clerks, tradesmen etc. and despite their origin, they achieved participation on the political power and in such smaller towns as Louny these people gained all top positions in the corporation in the second half of the 19th century.
Bohemian poor law in years 1918-1938 (an example of the former disctrict of Brandýs)
Pátra, Milan ; Čechurová, Jana (referee) ; Rákosník, Jakub (advisor)
The human society had to solve problems of the poor people right from its beginning and that problem cumulated due to the industrial revolution and economic liberalism. For these reasons the fundamental legal norms addressing the mentioned questions didn't come into existence in our country until the second half of the 19th century. Czechoslovakia assumed and developed the model of the former Austro-Hungarian social system so as to guarantee social insurance for the greatest number of inhabitants. At that time in addition to the public sphereand the private sphere there were also so-called "Semi-official institutions". These institutions were voluntary organisations that took care of poor - people in place of the state. In the former district of Brandýs the following associations were operating: District Youth Care, Czechoslovak Mother-Child Protection, Czechoslovak Red Cross and Masaryk League against Tuberculosis.
Chomutov region from 1945 to 1948
Haviar, Jakub ; Rákosník, Jakub (referee) ; Jakubec, Ivan (advisor)
Relation and cooperation between the Czech and German ethnics was of a great significance to the development of the Czech countries. We can also state that it will cotinue playing an important role in the future, even if maybe on a new level. Relations are still affected by the traumatic break-up during the Second World War. The War has interrupted cooperation and communication for long decades. The forced transfer of the German ethnic has not only meant simple elimination of the presence of its members from Czechoslovakia, but has also helped stabilize the newly liberated country politically and socieconomically. Even today, Czech and German historians, politicians and general public debate and argue about what happened after 1945. Were the Germans transfered of expelled? This question still sort of divides the nations. Both sides have their own versions of truth which they defend. We have to admit that before the transfer agreed to on the Potsdam Conference, a wild transfer has taken place just after the liberation. Most of the historians agree that this phase has been a period of injustice and human rights breaking. Only after then the regulated transfer took place. The Czech point of viev refers to this process as a tansfer, whereas the Germans see it as an expulsion. However, we have to admit that...
