Avant-garde art in the collection of Boris Gribanov and its significance in the European and wider cultural context

The aim of this research is to introduce the private art collection of the Russian (Soviet/American) collector Boris Gribanov and analyse the artworks of the Russian avant- garde represented in his collection. The history of the collection will be introduced along with the vicissitudes that the collector went through over the years in his quest to save the artworks. Within the broader historical and political context, this research paper discusses the fate of artworks made by Russian avant-garde artists and the difficulties encountered by collectors who tried to save the artworks of the Russian avant-garde from destruction and oblivion. Using the example of selected key painters from the collection of the collector Gribanov, the research will trace the historical and cultural context of collecting in the Soviet Union and the subsequent fate of paintings abroad. The thesis also deals with the situation of Gribanov's rescued artworks on the international art market and the popularization of the Russian avant-garde in the broader sense of the word. The research could also contribute to the analysis of the current art market and bring additional input for further studies in the field of modern culture, in connection with the collecting of works of art. Spontaneous inscriptions and drawings in sacred spaces

Spontaneous inscriptions and drawings in sacred spaces have been rather neglected and only sporadically refected sources that are usually removed during the routine reparations of masonry, historical facades, furnishings and wooden components without any detailed analysis of their meaning in the context of the history of the given object. Te dissertation originated as a response to this situation and its aim is the fundamental heuristics and comparison of both new and vanished or currently unrepresented evidence of these specifc traces mirroring the everyday life in religious buildings. Te thesis also focuses on the practical aspect, which is the summary of documentation options and the research of historical grafti by means of non-invasive methods and their subsequent application and verifcation of obtained fndings in the frame of a casuistic study, focusing on epigraphic collections in the premises of the former Piarist complex in Litomysl. Analysis and comparison of French and German poster propaganda in the first world war

English abstract The dissertation analyzes French and German poster propaganda as it was used in and shortly after the First World War. It observes the visual motives, their cultural categories and the displayed themes. By examining 500 French and 500 German posters, the goal of the work is to create a detailed analysis of their contents, usage and argumentation, with which it wants to achieve closer understanding of the contemporary propaganda used by Germany and France. The mentioned motives, categories and themes are then compared between the two nations. Through this comparison, the work strives to find out the unique (or similar) message and language of the propaganda used by each country. The Life and Artwork of Michail Vrubel with analysis of paintings Seated Demon and Demon Downcast

This diploma thesis follows the personality and art of a Russian painter from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Michail Vrubel. It analyzes the artist as unconventional appearance in the so called Silver Age of the Russian art, a pionier of modernism not only in terms of developing the style but also the inovative technique he used, abandoning the tradition and traditionalist paintings. The first part of thesis focused on the main biography of Michail Vrubel and the view of his art, devided into three periods, as well as the main milestones that influenced him. Next the focus moves to the overview of Russia at the end of 19th and beginning of 20th centuries, the ,,Silver Age", with special attention to symbolism, with which Michail Vrube lis often associated, even though he does not fit the symbolist characteristics completely. In the following part, the focus shifts to the innovative painting style of the artist and his trademark reduction of forms, best seen in two of his prominent pieces - Seated Demon and Fallen Demon.
