Brittle tectonics in the NE Bohemian Massif as related to recent tectonic movements indicated by GPS measurement
Nováková, Lucie ; Hrouda, František (advisor) ; Melichar, Rostislav (referee) ; Decker, Kurt (referee)
North-eastern part of the Bohemian Massif is characterised by many NW-SE striking faults. The Sudetic Marginal Fault Zone (SMFZ) and Hronov - Poříčí Fault Zone (HPFZ) represent the major seismoactive dislocations in this area. Field structural investigations, including fault-slip data collection were carried out on a number of natural outcrops and quarries with the aim of establishing a robust and field-constrained model for the local brittle structural evolution of the studied areas. Almost 5000 faults and fractures have been measured and studied in 116 localities. Two principle sets of faults within the SMFZ are oriented in the N-S and W-E directions. The faults are mainly dipping under 80-90ř. The lineations found on the fault planes are mainly trending to the SW and W. The kinematic frequent analysis was performed due to the distribution of the fault types in the orientations. The faults were divided into the different tectonic phases based on their origin or reactivation and their relative age using the calculation of paleostress analysis. The paleostress analysis of the fault-slip data within the SMFZ resulted identification of six tectonic phases from the youngest to the oldest: strike-slip regime with maximum compression σ1 in the NNW-SSE direction, compressional regime with σ1 in the...

Škodová, Michaela ; Štěpánek, Petr (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Miroslav (referee) ; Holger, Stephan (referee)
$EVWUDFW Application of radionuclides due to their unique nature is still attracting the interest of professionals from different branches of science. In this thesis, the unifying topic is the utilization of various radioactive labels on polymeric carriers for biomedicinal purposes. In the introductory part, the area of use of the investigated substances - in terms of their possible application in nuclear medicine, is presented to the reader. The experimental work is divided into three main sections dealing with synthesis and studying properties of appropriate selected polymers, their metal chelates and radiolabeling. First part of the study describes development of new strategies for labeling of polymeric carriers with radiometal cations and radioiodine, whereas in the following sections of the study synthesis and investigation of biocompatible polymer materials is discussed. New possible approaches in the diagnostics and therapy of cancer by using polymeric chelates as carriers are presented as well as the use of macroporous metal chelating polymer beads as potential therapeutics intended for radioembolization of liver malignancies and for the therapy of Wilson's disease. Investigated polymers have been shown to be non-toxic, to have good in vitro stability and to have the ability to be radiolabeled in...
Problem of Archaism and Innovation in the Eastern Iranian Languages

Problem of Archaism and Innovation in the Eastern Iranian Languages The presented dissertation aims to bring new information concerning the classification of the Eastern Iranian languages. Instead of commonly accepted two branches of Eastern Iranian (Northern and Southern) it seems that there can be classified at least five branches of Eastern Iranian languages, moreover, Avestan can form its own branch, which possibly may include also Khwārezmian. The main issue of the presented thesis was to show archaisms and innovations of the language group in focus. Such task is an issue for numerous studies so the main attention was paid to historical development of Sogdian and Yaghnōbī - two closely related Eastern Iranian languages. Linguistic proximity of Sogdian and Yaghnōbī has been observed shortly after discoveries of the first Sogdian documents in Chinese Turkestan on the beginning of the 20 th century, for a long time it has been supposed that Yaghnōbī is a modern descendent of Sogdian. By analysis of phonology, grammar and vocabulary of both languages I tried to find clues that may answer this question. From diachronic view there is no much difference between Sogdian and Yaghnōbī, individual changes may be interpreted as "dialectal", but there is one phenomenon that influenced different...

TITLE: Propedeutics of Logic in Teaching the Basics of Social Sciences AUTHOR: Tomáš Grulich DEPARTMENT: Social Sciences and Philosophy Department, Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague SUPERVISOR: RNDr. Kamila Bendová, CSc. ABSTRACT: This thesis is placed on border between the fields of philosophy and logic. It deals with significance, purpose and possible approach to teaching elementary logic within the framework of the subject - the Basics of Social Sciences. In the initial dialogical logic, latter disputation techniques and the current form of argumentation theory as well as in modern formal logic, it searches for moments allowing to establish such a propedeutics that would both meet the needs of common argumentation in civic and professional matters as well as ensure its openness to further development and specialized usage in particular fields of science. The aim is to fulfil the ethos of dialogue logic: to provide support for creation of well-justified opinions and wishes. It raises the question of how to remain in the environment of natural language while using ideas and tools offered by formal logic for the purposes of rational reasoning. The answer is found in the term of semantic commitment; it uses this term as a basis for interpretation of both traditional as well as modern logical...

TITLE: Interactive Whiteboard in Educational Practise AUTHOR: Mgr. Lenka Žďárská DEPARTMENT: Department of Information Technology and Education SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Josef Procházka, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: Is it possible to use the interactive whiteboard as a phenomenon of today's education? Does it really make the process of education more efficient? Does it have any motivational potential and does it make a teacher's daily work easier? Offered dissertation will try to clarify these suggested questions. The Thesis is introduced by a theoretical part which describes the interactive whiteboard as a complex and integrates it into the current system of didactic tools. It also deals with the aspects of efficient language learning among which belong motivation and interactivity. The theoretical part is followed by the analyses of empirical research which is devoted to using the interactive whiteboard from teacher's and student's viewpoint. The main aim of this work is to incorporate the technical didactic tool - the interactive whiteboard into the current system of didactic tools and secondly, in experimental verification of its effects on teachers and students within educational process. KEYWORDS: didactic tools, interactive whiteboard, interactive teaching
Characterization of ultra-thin polymer films on solid substrates using different physical techniques
Pop-Georgievski, Ognen ; Rypáček, František (advisor) ; Adam, Pavel (referee) ; Werner, Carsten (referee)
The presented doctoral research was aimed at preparation and characterization of ultra thin polymer films on solid substrates using different physical techniques. Each of these physical techniques probes selectively different characteristics of the films. While some of the techniques are strong in the predetermination of some unique properties of the layers, they might be limited and give no specific/conclusive information about some other important characteristics. Therefore, only the combination of the techniques provides a profound picture of the thickness, architecture, composition and functionality of the films/layers. This combined characterization approach elucidates in details the physical characteristics and the mechanisms responsible for the unique behavior of different polymer films/layers in the application that they are intended for. In the thesis, of particular interest were films of high biomedical, biotechnological and tissue engineering importance, such as: 1. poly(lactide) films formed by grafting "from-" a silanized alacrite thin films (L605 Co-based super alloy), 2. polydopamine (PDA) films that could serve as substrate independent mod- ification platform for further surface modification steps, 3. poly(ethylene oxide)films formed by "grafting to-" PDA modified surfaces, 4....
Comprehension of syntactic structures in young school-age children
Schöffelová, Miroslava ; Rendl, Miroslav (advisor) ; Šulová, Lenka (referee) ; Kesselová, Jana (referee)
TITLE: Comprehension of syntactic structures in young school-age children ABSTRACT: The thesis deals with the comprehension of syntactic structures in children attending the second grade of elementary school which was part of a larger research project exploring assumptions regarding reading and writing. The comprehension of syntactic structures was studied using an experimental version of a test which monitors the processing of different types of simple phrases and sentences. Data show the level of comprehension of children at this age, how the children understand the sentences, and what the most common mistakes are. We were able to identify the different strategies that are used in the processing of sentences and explain some of the typical ways to erroneous interpretations of sentences using the concepts described in literature. We also investigated relationships with other skills. In addition to analysis of the role of memory in sentence comprehension, the work deals mainly with the relationship between reading efficiency and reading comprehension. The results show the relationship between these variables in the Slovak language, and compare the findings with data from studies in other languages. KEY WORDS: Comprehension of syntactic structures, process of comprehension, thematic roles, comprehension...

Vrzáčková, Petra ; Sláma, Jiří (advisor) ; Tošner, Jindřich (referee) ; Kubíček, Vladimír (referee)
Background: Cervical carcinoma is frequently diagnosis of young, sexually active women. Radical hysterectomy, as a basic therapeutic modality of early stages of cervical cancer, has very positive oncogynaecologic results. On the opposite site it has it's significant morbidity including bladder and rectal dysfunctions, lymphedemas, and deterioration in patient's sexual life. Methods: Data of forty one patients undergoing radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer were used for analysis, as well as data of forty nine patients undergoing simple hysterectomy for benign gynacologic disease and fifty three healthy controls Participants filled out sexual function and quality of life questionnaires before surgery and three and six months postoperatively. Results: The most important finding was statistically significant worsening in objective arousal in cervical cancer patients (p = 0,041). Also decrease in libido and higher frequency of dyspareunia was registered. Patients undergoing simple hysterectomy showed decreasing trend in sexual dysfunctions, mainly in severe dyspareunia. Conclusions: Radical hysterectomy for cervical carcinoma has a risk of arousal disorder, libido decrease and worsening of dyspareunia. Psychosexual counselling decreases frequency of early postoperative sexual dysfunctions.
Radioactivity of the rock and the environment in selected underground areas and its impact on human health
Thinová, Lenka ; Matolín, Milan (advisor) ; Holý, Karel (referee) ; Neznal, Martin (referee)
The thesis is focused on measurement and assessment of absorbed doses of radiation in caves of the Czech Republic, out of which some exhibit high activity concentration of radon in air. This thesis presents an analysis and recommendations based on measurement results obtained in the underground caves over the past 10 years. The focus is on defining the sources of irradiation within the cave environment (and in areas used for speleotherapy), considering their potential health effect, including the variable dependence of external and internal irradiation influences. All of the measurements had as an objective to verify, and where possible improve, the existing methodology for assessing and calculating the dose from radon in underground spaces. The main issue that had to be resolved was whether a numerically specified cave factor value is applicable to all underground areas. The research measurements were carried out in all available show caves and in several underground areas, and were based on the initial results from an aerosol measurement campaign. Two caves (the Bozkov Dolomite Caves and the Zbrašov Aragonite Caves) were selected for advanced long-term measurements. A large number of long-term and short-term studies were carried out. The most important results for cave environments were: the...

Nováčková, Marta ; Halaška, Michael (advisor) ; Špaček, Jiří (referee) ; Mlynček, Miloš (referee) ; Kučera, Eduard (referee)
The aim of this study was a prospective detection of postoperative lymphedema of the lower limbs in patients after the surgery for cervical and vulvar cancer using different methods of examination and their comparison and monitoring of postoperative complications and quality of life. Totally 78 women were followed after the surgery for cervical cancer and 36 for carcinoma of the vulva. Due to the radicality of the surgery the patients were divided into the conservative and radical groups. Lower limbs lymphedema were evaluated preoperatively and 3, 6 and 12 months after the surgery by the measurement of the lower limbs circumference, multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (MFBIA) and subjective feeling. Quality of life using the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) questionnaires was evaluated before and 6 and 12 month after the surgery. 12 months after the cervical cancer surgery 35.9 % of patients reported subjective lymphedema, 37.18 % lymphedema were objectively diagnosed by the measurement of lower limb circuits and in 52.56 % of cases the increase of amount of extracellular fluid was detected by the MFBIA Ri/R0 method. The prevalence of lymphedema after the surgery for vulvar cancer reached 19.44% by the subjective assessment, 38.89 % by the measurement of...
