Předkládaná bakalářská práce se zabývá genezí stavebního prvku, známého jako westwerk (původně německý výraz používá i čeština), a to v architektonických i kulturně-politických souvislostech sledovaných až na práh druhého milénia. Metodologicky je rozdělena do dvou částí. První se věnuje souvislostech architektonickým; po způsobu "vídeňské školy" v pojetí založeném Franzem Wickhoffem se soustřeďuje na "gramatiku" výtvarné formy a zohledňuje i přístup Heinricha Wölflina - před historickým poznáním upřednostňuje promýšlení toho, jak je dílo, v našem případě westwerk, vytvářeno jako stavba. Směřuje tedy od jednotlivostí k obecnému; soustředí se na pohled "zevnitř." Druhá část se naopak inspiruje těmi historiky umění, kteří podstatu uměleckého doporučují poznávat prostřednictvím vnějších vlivů a tedy se zabývají nejprve kulturou, politikou a dalšími vlivy, působícími v určité historické době na produkci uměleckých děl "zvenčí." Tento pohled pak doplňuji z hlediska receptivního přístupu Ernsta Gombricha. Hlavním důvodem vzniku této práce byla nicméně skutečnost, že žádná studie, věnovaná westwerku dosud v českém prostředí nevznikla, přestože tento stavební prvek přinesl nemalou inspiraci i pro sakrální stavby na našem území. The essay hereby submitted concerns itself with the genesis of the architectural element generally known in art-historical studies as westwerk/westwork and originating in the Carolingian times of the eigth and ninth centuries. Methodologically the topic is approached from two mutually opposite perspectives. One, in the vein of the Vienna Scool, pays attention to the development of westwerk's form, i.e "from within," while the other favours the view "from outside," and stresses the cultural, political and other influences of the historical time.It also take into account the receptive approach of Ernst Gombrich. The main reason for wfiting this essay, however, is the fact that no special work has as yet been dedicated to the westwerk phenomenon in the Czech environment, aven though its influence on the local architecture was far from negligible.
