A novel atmospheric pressure glow discharge-based hydride atomizer for atomic absorption spectrometry
Vlčková, Nikol ; Sidoryk, E. ; Svoboda, Milan ; Coelho, Gilberto ; Greda, K. ; Kratzer, Jan
A novel type of atmospheric pressure plasma discharge was developed to serve as hydride atomizer derived from the shape of the quartz body of a conventional quartz tube atomizer used in AAS. However, instead of resistive heating of the optical arm, two electrodes were inserted in its central part to sustain an APGD-like discharge (0.5 kV, 30 mA). Atomization of As, Se, Sb, Sn, Pb, Te and Bi hydrides was optimized. Its performance is comparable to that of QTA or DBD atomizers.

Filters with collected aerosols were analysed for anions, cations and elements. Measurement of particulate elements with high time resolution was performed only during winter campaign. Mobile measurement of particle number concentration was provided during both (winter and summer) campaigns in the village, sanatorium building and Císařská cave. Detailed results of aerosol components will be presented.

Characterisation of Atmospheric aerosols in air aroun the children's sanatorium

Higher aerosol concentrations during the winter campaign than during the summer campaign indicate greater air pollution during heating period. Both local and regional emission sources may contribute to the pollution, and the contribution of long-range transport of aerosols cannot be neglected. The main emission sources of pollution in winter were identified as the burning of wood and coal, mainly for domestic heating.
