Inhabitants of Hlučínsko-region in the Czechoslowak foreign army in the West
Neminář, Jiří ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Plachý, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with the almost unknown theme - the soldiers from the district of Hlucin serving in the Czechoslovakian foreign legions in the West. Using the example of the inhabitants of the Hlucin area, it shows the conditions under which the former Wermacht soldiers' recruitment to the Czechoslovakian army had taken place. It tries to give a true picture of the specifics of the participants from the district of Hlucin in the foreign revolt and to outline the possible motivation for the decision to enter the foreign legions, the way the soldiers presented themselves in front of the interrogating officers as well as different views of their evaluation from the Czechoslovakian officers' perspective. The goal of the thesis is to show the almost unknown reality of their military service besides Wehrmacht and to bring the total number and ranks of the soldiers from the district of Hlucin within the Czechoslovakian troops to light. Both the quantitative analysis based on the list of the individual soldiers and several qualitative analyses dealing mostly with military draft and interrogation documents helped to reach the goal. Besides, the fonds of various military institutions and the local Hlucin authorities were also taken into account.
Drug Policy in the Third Reich: Ideology vs. Practice
Staňková, Marie ; Šmidrkal, Václav (advisor) ; Kučera, Rudolf (referee)
This final bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of drug policy in the Third Reich and aims to map the contradiction that arose in the challenging conditions of World War II between the official Nazi ideology, on which the legislation of that time was based, and practice in the German army and among Nazi top leaders. In the first part, the presented paper deals with legislation concerning narcotics and addictive substances in the period of the Weimar Republic and subsequently in the period of the Third Reich, including several international conventions that were binding for the member states of the League of Nations, where Germany was a member till 1933. In the second part, the paper focuses on scientific research in the field of chemistry and pharmacy, in the thirties of the 20th century which resulted in development of addictive stimulants. Their use in the armed forces of the German Wehrmacht and among the highest Nazi leaders is then dealt with in the third part of this paper. In conclusion, the thesis summarizes the discrepancy that arose in this regard during the Second World War between the state-constituting Nazi ideology and war practice.

Z nepřátelské do „naší” uniformy. Vojáci wehrmachtu ze Slánska jako dobrovolníci československé zahraniční armády
Maršálek, Zdenko
The study deals with the fate of German Wehrmacht soldiers, who volunteered from the captivity for the Czechoslovak Army-in-exile during the Second World War. The fact that at the end of the war, every third soldier of the Czechoslovak units formed alongside the Allies in Great Britain was a former German soldier, did not respond to the propaganda-shaped image of the resistance in exile, and was therefore marginalised. Colour fates of the men in this group is documented by an example of four soldiers born in the then Slaný district between 1909–1921.
Hlučín Soldiers in the Wehrmacht - Conflicting Narrative in the Czech Culture of Remembrance
Fojtíková, Anežka ; Mikulová, Soňa (advisor) ; Kochnowski, Roman (referee)
This thesis examines the public manifestations of the culture of remembrance of WWII in the Hlučín Region, with an emphasis on the commemorations of the fallen local soldiers fighting in the Wehrmacht. The aim of the thesis is to describe the public commemorations of WWII in the Hlučín Region, and to examine the relation between the regional and the mainstream Czech narrative. The core difference between the narratives arises from the fact that the Hlučín residents took part in WWII on the side of the Germans. I investigate the means used in the commemorations, as well as who initiates, organizes and finances the commemorations and what are the motivations of the commemorations' participants. Among the means, I focus on the analyses of the memorials and graves of the fallen soldiers, as well as on acts of piety. I concentrate on the period after the Velvet Revolution, when the particular narrative of the Hlučín Region ceased to be a taboo. In the first chapter I present the terms, theoretical concepts and methodology of the research. The second chapter deals with the history of the Hlučín Region and the identity of its inhabitants. In the third chapter I outline the Czech narrative of WWII during the communist regime and after 1989. The fourth chapter presents the results of my research of the...

The Admission of German soldiers to the Czechoslovak foreign army in the West during World War II
Neminář, Jiří ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Šedivý, Ivan (referee)
The thesis examines the process of recruitment of German prisoners of war (the former Wehrmacht soldiers) to the Czechoslovak foreign army in the West. Based on a wide variety of sources mainly of military origin, the thesis investigates the process of enlistment with all its specific regional features (the recruitment differed slightly based on the country where it took place). More specifically, the thesis also deals with questions concerning the German captives' security clearance, e. g. to which extent the actual recruitment followed the official instructions and guidelines, in which ways the captives presented themselves and what image they tried to create, how they were appraised and perceived by the Czechoslovak authorities and by officers, etc. The final mosaic should demonstrate that recruitment of the former Wehrmacht soldiers was not only inevitable, but also vital and necessary for completion of Czechoslovak armed forces. The vetting itself was a very strict and thorough process aimed on preventing potentially dangerous, unreliable individuals who might have posed a security risk from joining the Czechoslovak army.
