Overclaiming test - contribution to validization
Minarčíková, Nikola ; Preiss, Marek (advisor) ; Riegel, Karel (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to validate Czech version of Overclaiming Questionnaire (Paulhus and Bruce 1990, Czech version NÚDZ 2014). Questionnaire authors claim that it serves as a method to assess overclaiming and socially desirable responding in self-reports. Self-presentation is presented in the introduction of the theoretical part, another chapters then focus on self-enhancement in questionnaires and techniques used to detect it. Conclusion addresses the overclaiming technique and the Overclaiming Questionnaire. Main goal of practical part is to validate Czech version of the Overclaiming Questionnaire and evaluation of its usefulness in application context. Hundred and forty people from general population participated in the research, along with sixty-eight applicants for the position of articling attorney or judge. KEYWORDS Overclaiming, self-prezentation, social desirability, impression management, self- deception, inaccurate self-presentation, self-enhancement
Integrity and social desirability in psychiatric in-patients
Doubková, Nikola
This thesis deals with two constructs - social desirability and integrity. The main aim of this thesis is to create an interview which will allow to distinguish people by their level of integrity and their tendency to respond in a socially desirable manner. The interview can serve as a face-to-face variant of questionnaire methods. Theoretical foundations of both social desirability as well as integrity are presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. Complexity of both constructs is considered. Therefore, approaches of various authors are presented. Methods for assessing socially desirable responding in self- reports as well as integrity are also presented as part of the theoretical section of this thesis. The effects of social desirability on integrity assessment is discussed, as well. In the empirical part of the thesis the development of the semi-structured interview is described. The interview was developed based on original Czech test battery focusing on personal integrity at the workplace. Specifically, questionnaire Integrita v pracovním a běžném životě alongside with questionnaire assessing social desirability was used. The semi-structured interview contains a total of eight questions. Each question includes short story, and the respondent is asked to judge his / her behavior in this...

Factorial Vignette Survey Design: Formulation of Vignettes and its ifluence
Plecháčková, Debora ; Buchtík, Martin (advisor) ; Remr, Jiří (referee)
The thesis focuses on quasi-experimental research design using descriptions of hypothetical situations (vignettes) with varying dimensions and their levels. The thesis is divided into three parts. First one is devoted to the presentation of the FSA. Second (methodologic) part describes the circumstances of the research conducted within the thesis. It is focused on comparison of FSA and traditional polling method, represented by itemized battery. Topic, through which the comparison is made, is crime, respectively punitiveness. The research also focuses on the comparison of classical and projective methods of questioning. The questionnaire survey method CAWI used split- ballot experiment - a sample of 505 respondents was divided into two parts. One half was interviewed with the vignette and subsequent itemized battery focused on mitigating / aggravating circumstances in the ordinary form (first person) of polling, the second part received a projective form (third person) of the questionnaire. The conclusions of the research are focused both on identifying the mitigating and aggravating circumstances using different methods of inquiry and their comparison, and on a combination of FSA and itemized battery in analysis and detection of inconsistent (and potentially socially desirable) topics. From the...

Validization of Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale in the Czech Context
Přibáňová, Tereza ; Remr, Jiří (advisor) ; Hendl, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis deals with the process of validization of Marlowe-Crowne social desirability scale in the Czech context. Despite the fact that social desirability represents an error, which can disrupt validity of obtained data, there is no official Czech version of Marlowe-Crowne scale that could be used in surveys. The aim of this thesis is to create Czech translation of the scale and test its functionality. The Marlowe-Crowne scale is introduced from a theoretical point of view firstly, is discussed its creation, characteristics, its importance in relation to social desirability, critics and problems and possibilities and difficulties of its use in the new context. Further are discussed different ways of translation of research instruments, which could help to preserve their purpose, and method of cognitive interviews as a way of testing of new or adapted research instruments. Modified parallel translation of three translators was used for creation of Czech version of Marlowe-Crowne scale. Cognitive interview, based mostly on verbal protocols, were used for testing of finally translated scale to find out, if scale is applicable in the Czech context without any problems. Interviews were conducted with sixteen respondents with different sociodemographic characteristics. Thesis concludes that scale...
Conjoint analysis: beyond the border of marketing
Sklenařík, Pavel ; Soukup, Petr (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Hynek (referee)
This thesis deals with the conjoint analysis in the context of the possibilities for its use in social science research. The mentioned method is introduced in detail and the text covers both the historical development and statistical background of each type of this analysis. Following practical part of thesis deals with the ability to overcome some typical data validity issues such as social desirability and order effect. Hypotheses, formulated on the basis of literature, are being tested using data obtained from split ballot experiment by comparing outcomes of conjoint analysis with those obtained with conventional rating scales. As the main topic of the conducted study is measuring preferences within individual aspects of ideal job, analysis no surprisingly identifies the salary as the most important attribute, but besides this, conjoint analysis shows potential for being more resistant to the order effect than the standard rating scales.
Measuring of social desirability in selection situation
Francová, Anna ; Preiss, Marek (advisor) ; Bartošková, Magda (referee)
This Bachelor thesis discusses the theme of socialy-desirable responding that appeared on the pages of questionary BIDR-CZ (Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding, Paulhus 1984; czech version Preiss and Mačudová, 2013). Used method describes psychological-diagnostics situations that occurred in real environment and offers comparison between experimental and control group. Experimental group consists of judge, state prosecutor and executor candidates. Research revealed statistically significant deviations from the control group. In the case of candidates the measured score was proven to be higher on overall scale as well as on both subscales, than the score of control group. First part of the thesis provides an introduction to theoretical definition and boundaries of social desirability, necessary terminology, proper categorization and sorting of the individual components. Other chapters present social desirability as a response style and verify the validity of test methods based on this assumption. Thesis also contains an overview of related foreign researches and further explaines the process of candidates election in Czech Republic, its obligations and requirements and various test methods used. Keywords: BIDR, social desirability, impression management, self-deception, self- report, response...
