Analysis of Approaches to Migration in Televised Debates on British Membership in the European Union

In 2016, the Great Britain became the first Member State to organize a referendum about its membership in the European Union, which led to the decision to leave it. In the much controversial campaign, which led to the vote itself, the media identified three key issues off the Membership debate: the EU economy, immigration to the Great Britain and the position of the country in the world. The media also tent to describe the debate as "filthy". One of the unusual and horrifying factors were death threats to few of the political actors, as well as assassination of the Labour politician Jo Cox. Given the context, out of the three key issues, the immigration became the most controversial one, especially because of the actions of the UKIP party. Their than chairman Nigel Farage was eager to take pictures in front of two billboards they've put up - one of which captured thousands of refugees waiting on the borders, the other one implying more than 1 million Turks could enter the country in the near future. Media Image of Brexit in Scotland

This Bachelor thesis deals with media image of Brexit in Scottish media, particularly in three chosen newspapers The Herald, The Scotsman and Daily Record, considering specificities of the Scottish culture. The thesis focuses especially on reactions in opinion articles towards the referendum about leaving the European Union and coherent separatistic atmosphere one month before and after the historical voting (from 23rd May until 23rd July 2016). Firstly, this thesis provides theoretical facts including the historical context, a description of a political situation in the UK and Scottish culture or a definition media background in Scotland. The author assumes referring of authors of opinion articles about Brexit was crucially influenced by the perception of "Scottishness", which defines Scots from their British neighbours, most importantly Englishmen.The goal of the thesis is not to discover, how many articles were published but what were the most often mentioned topics, what Scottish authors regarded as important and how did they face the idea of Scottish independence in connection with the results of the Brexit referendum.

Norwegian Accession Process to the EC/EU Compared with Denmark and Sweden

In the second half of the twentieth century Norway repeatedly made efforts to become a member of the European Communities, which were later incorporated into the newly created European Union. Two referendums were held - in 1972 and 1994 and in both of them Norwegian citizens decided that Norway will not become a member of the EC/EU. Outcomes of the referendums were narrow, though. Interesting fact is, that referendums in the neighbor states - Denmark (1972) and Sweden (1994) ended up in favor of the European Communities/ the European Union. Bachelor thesis called "Norwegian Accession Process to the EC/EU Compared with Denmark and Sweden" concentrates on reasons of the different outcome of referendums in Norway compared to Denmark and Sweden. These Scandinavian countries have many similar characteristics, therefore was expected similar outcome. In my opinion there are three main reasons for the different results of the referendums. Firstly, there are Norwegian specifics, such as widely popular fishing and protection of agriculture. Second are economic reasons that are linked to big profits from crude oil and natural gas export. Analysis of the impacts of political relations on local budget: Case study of municipality Kamenický Šenov

The main goal of this diploma thesis is the analysis of political influences on a municipal budget in municipality Kamenický Šenov. Thanks to solving problems of municipal budgets, it is possible to analyze relationship of political decisions and municipal budget. Most of political science's dissertations focus on elections, voting systems or mayor's election, but the question of influence of political relationship on municipal budget is not in public interest. This topic is very important, but unfortunately neglected. This diploma thesis is divided into four chapters. The first three chapters theoretically embed this work. The first chapter introduces the horizontal typology of the municipal systems, public administration, fiscal federalism, incomes and expenses of municipalities and formation of the municipal budget in France and Sweden. The third chapter is dedicated to the Czech Republic and it proceeds from the structure of the first chapter. The fourth chapter of this work is arranged as the unique case study of municipality Kamenický Šenov. The influence of Cyprus' accession to the European Union on a possible reunification of the island

This bachelor thesis examines the Cyprus' accession to the European Union and focuses on how this accession influenced a possible solution of the Cyprus question. The objective is to find an answer to the question how the accession influenced a possible reunification of the island, and what the significance of the European Union in the prospects on solving the Cyprus issue was. The thesis focuses on the development of the reunification process before the accession, on the Annan plan and on the following referendum, in which Greek Cypriots voted against the reunification of Cyprus. The thesis analyzes the development after the Cyprus' integration into the EU without the northern part of the island, where the European Union has been trying for many years to end the international isolation of the Turkish Cypriot community. This paper also analyzes the relations between Turkey and Cyprus, which significantly affect the European politics and the Cyprus issue itself. The thesis concludes that the Cyprus' accession set back the reunification process despite the efforts made by European Union to end the isolation of Turkish Cypriots, and to prepare the northern part of Cyprus for future integration into the EU. This thesis analyze institutional and political circumstances, which allowed and influenced the Scottich referendum of independence in september 2014. It discribes political development and situation in Scottich Parliament and Government from the creation of devolution to 2014. As a metodological tools this thesis use theories of Institutionalism, Multi - level governance and performance politics. It focuses on the pre-referendum debate as well. Main sources are official reports of departments of Her Majesty Government and White paper of Scottish Goverment for the referenda, both are combined with reports from BBC. The powers of municipalities and regions

1 Resume The thesis is divided into two large units, on a theoretical and practical part. Follow the practical part of the work is to be divided on an assessment of selected aspects that are covered by municipal and provincial governments at the European level and in this context, then followed by a separate section on comparative evaluation of the scope of local government in selected European countries. I will focus first on the theoretical part. The issue of regions and municipalities evaluate first in the context of Czech legislation and then subsequently focus on each selected legislation relating to European legislation related to issues of regions and municipalities. Choice of thesis topic was selected based on an appropriate combination of administrative law issues and focus on the broader context of legislation within the EU, which focuses mainly practical part. With regard to the comparison of the Czech legislation and issues of European legislation, so we can get a rich variety of assumptions and considerations, which could be formulated in the context of the considerations de lege fedenda at the level of regions and municipalities. Bachelor's thesis "Referendum in Switzerland: Jura canton (case study)" discusses the possibilities and limitations of use of referenda as an element of direct democracy. The thesis explores purely specific postition of referendum and the use of its types in the political system of Switzerland, which is displayed on the case of procedure, which led to the establishment of the new canton of Jura. Firstly, general typologies of referenda are introduced, from which subsequently, is reflected in decribing the status and the very types of basic elements of direct democracy, which are used in Switzerland. It is also explained the genesis of creation canton of Jura, where through the methods of descriptive content analysis and theory of consociational democracy the process of creating the canton of Jura and the creation itself, which took place through the popular vote in a federal reference. The bachelor's thesis "Scottish National Party and its position after 1999" discusses the development and status of the Scottish National Party since its foundation in 1934 with emphasis on period after the emergence of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. The thesis is focused on the position of the party in political systems of the United Kingdom and Scotland and its efforts to enforce the primary goal of Scottish independence. The basic measures of party's success are election results and participation in decision-making. The author examines the factors influencing the overal image of the party such as ideology, internal situation, party leader, etc. Study of the party documents, such as election manifestos and government programs, is important part of the paper. The impact of the economic crisis on the nationalism of Catalonia

The thesis is focused on the Catalan nationalism as the nationalism of the nation without state and its changes during the economic crisis. The objective is to analyse potential impact of the economic crisis to the Catalan nationalism and its changes after 2008, firstly at the level of public opinion, secondly and mainly at the political level in the frame of the analysis of the Catalan political parties in the Catalan parliament after the elections in 2006, 2010 and 2012. The parties are divided according their demands to the central government using the Dandoy's typology. The intensification of the demands for the independence in the Catalan society and its correlation with the worsening economic indicators, as the unemployment, Catalan debt or the changes of GDP, is analysed by the linear regression analysis in the first part of the study. The connection between nationalist questions and the economic crisis is analysed in the second part of the thesis. Three tools of the election campaign in 2006, 2010 and 2012 are used for this analysis - the electoral programmes, the electoral debates and interviews in television and the electoral spots.
