Mikulka, Petr ; Žalmanová,, Petra (referee) ; Šindlar, Jiljí (advisor)
The theme of Master Thesis is the Brno dam and its effective utilization. The very subject of this thesis is the Cultural and Social Center (the Center). The project follows a broad urban context and provides a new insight into the operation and use of this site. It contains a proposal of movement coordination and effective utilization of the most attractive areas closely related to the water surface. Cultural and Social Center is designed as a part of the landscape. It connects two levels of trails leading around the object. This connection is expressed through the dominant stairs. The program of the Center complements and evaluates leisure activities of the site, plus the Center offers an extraordinary space. Digital RGB spectrum system senses the current weather and converts the results into a graphic and scenic projection. Thanks to this system a new concept of space is continuously formed. The atmosphere, temperature, texture, intensity etc.. The visitor thus will never be a part of the same "exhibition." The first floor, (level +0,00m) around the water surface, is preferably used as a Cultural and Social Center. It has three naves of the Center, foyer with cafe and snacks, as well as it covers a DPMB building of cabeling. Few parts of the facade are designed as a sliding facade, thus visitors could stay in direct contact with the water surface and landscape. Second floor – (level +3,50m) is an spatial continuation on the Center and the rest is mostly used for technical security of the building. In foyer there is a second part of cafe – more private and relaxing room. Third floor (level +7,00m) is connected with the trail going around the building. At this level takes place leisure and educational center, which is complemented by the multifunction hall and an administrative facilities. Soundscape, Lom Hády
Kolcunová, Pavlína ; Kyselka, Mojmír (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
The concept of the thesis is based on the phenomenon of Soundscape. This term was defined during the late 1960s at the occasion of The World Soundscape Project. The image of the acoustic comfort was redefined - from the level of noise pollution to the question of the sonic environment. The contribution of the project lies in the rehabilitation of the importance of sound as a cultural and social phenomenon, which shapes the identity of the place. Since the area of sound research is very large, the theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the description of the auditory perception from the psychological and physical aspects. It's a description of objective and subjective "events", that on the one hand, it appears as a set of physical quantities, on the other side as auditory scene, which provokes the questions how are the different sounds connected, which meanings are associated by the perceived sound, etc. Sources of inspiration, drawing from nonarchitectonic overlaps ( such as poetic acoustic locators or sound installations ) are another starting point for exploring the properties of sounds. The work on a specific issue was preceded by the searching of the accurate place, that is essentially acontextual to the surrounding environment. Landscape character of the quarry Hady reminds a desert, it has a few specified sites, it‘s monotonous land with varying degrees of openness and closeness. The environment of the quarry generates diverse "soundcapes" and also reflects the sound milieu of the surrounding landscape, which becomes the object of manipulation. situation Quarry Hady is one of the dominant landmarks of Brno - scarred face of the hilll and broadcasting tower are visible from miles around, and after mining mechanisms quit, the quarry is turning back to nature. There is a natural reservation Velka Klajdovka and Kavky in close proximity - thanks to the fact grows up to thirty kinds of endangered plants in the lower part of quarry called Růženin lom. The location is easily accessible on foot or by bike ( hiking trail Velká Klajdovka - Šumbera goes through the quarry) or with public transportation within walking distance of 800m. The parking lot with 25 spaces is situated near to turn-off Kanice towards quarry area.
Suburbanization – between a city and landspace (searching for the optimal strategy for sustainable development of suburbs in the background of a big city)
Šerá, Jana ; Koutný, Jan (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
Assignment of the diploma thesis came out as a result of the module specialized studiol called Compact city, dealing with the problematics of the urban sprawl phenomenon in last 20 years in our country. The target of this thesis is to find ways leading to the improvement of life quality within such structures. We are facing the problem of the urban sprawl into the landscape to the detriment of land used for agriculture. We try to move closer to the landscape, which causes our loss of it. We spend long hours by commuting, mostly by car. The time, when the non-renewable sources of energy are getting tinner is on approach and with it the prices of oil are getting higher. Then we will have a choice: commute by car or get to the place of our job by walk. The second option will be highly appreciated. Contemporary czech countryside is loosing its original features in order of becoming residential base for nearby cities. People moving to the countryside are not searching for the job in the agriculture sector. They move there, trying to find a house with a garden in touch of the nearby landscape. Sadly, they do not find what they expect. Their reality is a big house in the middle of a small patch of land, which can not provide them with the intimate sorrounding. Such residential sites are seldom, if ever proposed in relationship towards the landscape as it was common in the case of original countryside. Right-angled properties which are provided with high fences or walls create sharp edges urging towards constructing a new such structure next to it. The thesis is devided into several parts. First part is dealing with changes in the relationship of people towards landscape. Second part is mapping the urban sprawl in sorrounding of Brno. Several parts of Brno and several municipalities, where the phenomenon of the urban sprawl is about to take place or where it took place already were chosen for this purpose. Three chosen localities (Útěchov, Jehnice, Troubsko) undergone detailed analysis and comparison. In the following section of the thesis were defined five areas, which should be monitored during the development of sub-urban localities. The aim of all proposals is to minimize necessary journeys by car. The final part of the thesis is focused on Jehnice town and country plan and spatial regulations zoning is not created. Thesis defines important places, spaces and offers visions on which direction should the development take.
