Goethe's Götz von Berlichingen and Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe. A Comparative Study./Götz von Berlichingen J.W. Goetha a Ivanhoe Sira Waltera Scotta. Srovnávací studie.
DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Kristýna
In this work I did a close reading and analysis of a ´storm and stress´ drama by Goethe, Götz von Berlichingen (1773), and the romantic novel by Scott, Ivanhoe (1819), comparing and contrasting themes, motifs and the use of sociohistory and significant historical figures in the adventure plots. It is possible to detect the influence of Goethe´s drama on Scott´s work since Scott had translated Goethe´s drama into English previous to writing his most famous novel. After independent reading and analysis, I secured secondary literature on the topics and consulted them for additional references about the literary relationship between these two famous authors from different nations.
Goethe's Phenomenology
Bojda, Martin ; Benyovszky, Ladislav (advisor) ; Nitsche, Martin (referee) ; Sobotka, Milan (referee)
Goethe' s Phenomenology - Abstract The aim of this thesis was to explain the philosophical foundations and horizons of the work of Johann Wolfgang Goethe, with an emphasis on his concept of phenomenon and appearing, in which he is presented as a significant contributor to the reflection of the category of mediation in German late Enlightenment and idealistic discourse. The work showed how Goethe's (including poetic) works show some theoretically based or systematizable aspects which genealogy, reception and applicability in general the author attempts to interpret. He also interprets the philosophemes connected with Goethe's work: he puts Goethe in the contexts of the German and European thinking of the age of the Enlightenment, of its rationalist bases and of its rethinking of the nineteenth- century concepts of thought. The work shows the breadth and complexity of Goethe's spiritual resources and their creative appropriation by him, as well as the far-reaching influence of Goethe on the German philosophy already in his time (Hegel, Schelling, Schopenhauer, etc.). He tries to overcome the stereotypes or shortcomings he finds in several previous interpretations, discussing first the philosophical literature about Goethe. In systematic and historical contexts, he represents Goethe confrontations with the...

The color theory of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Rudolf Steiner in compare
TRAUBOVÁ, Monika
The present master thesis compares die theories of colors created by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Rudolf Steiner, who both created their individual theory as a reaction regarding another one published approximately a century prior to them. The thesis presents their theories and compares them on the basis of a certain set of categories. Their circumstances of origin, contemporaneous usage, interdisciplinarity and creation of the chromatic circle as an explanatory tool are defined and discussed. Furthermore a description of noticeable differences and similarities is added and the author points out the possible influences of the chromatic theories towards other poetical, philosophical or paedagogical works of the respetive creator.
Goethe in psychonalytic literature
Křížová, Ivana ; Kučera, Miloš (advisor) ; Klusák, Miroslav (referee)
The theoretical thesis, which aims to find and compare different conceptions and interpretation of the life of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The interest of this thesis is centered on the interpretation of Goethe's relationship with his sister. Interpretation of the relationship of Goethe and his sister is based on two approaches, the psychoanalytic and historical approach. Psychoanalytic approach is represented by Sigmund Freud and Kurt Eissler, who offer interpretations of some aspects of the relationship of Goethe with his sister. Historical approach is represented by Richard Friedenthal and Astrid Seele. They submit biographical context of the poets life and also point to his relationship with his sister. On the basis of these sources are data analyzed within psychoanalytic theory. To explain Goethe's relationship with his sister is thinking about the form of their incestuous sibling relationship or oedipus complex.
Goethe's Science of Living Nature
de Vries, Wiert-Sebastiaan Bavo ; Komárek, Stanislav (advisor) ; Bouzek, Jan (referee) ; Janko, Jan (referee)
Goethe's science of living nature - About the implicit Philosophical basics in the scientific studies of J.W. von Goethe This study explains and elaborates the basic philosophical concepts in Goethe's biological scientific studies. To explain the implicit philosophical concepts of Goethe's biological research, his ideas in the field of botany and zoology are presented. Important concepts like the Urpflanze (the idea of plant) and the Urtier (the idea of animal), and the concepts of the growing process of annual plants as shown in Goethe's the Metamorphosis of Plants (1790) are discussed. Also the method of Goethe's natural science is considered. To understand Goethe's position in the tradition of Western Philosophy and the Natural Sciences, the main steps in their history and development are described. These moments in the history tend to another view on nature than his. Goethe's scientific studies could be seen as an answer to the two questions of the literary figure of Faust (a request for essential knowledge of nature and for a qualitative method of research). Goethe's way of thinking about nature is also closely linked with the classic Greek philosophers. In Goethe's view of nature we can thus see a synthesis of main thoughts of Plato and Aristotle. At the end of the study the fundaments of a...
