Digitalisation of old prints and manuscripts from collections of the Library of the Military History Institute

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou digitalizace historických fondů Knihovny Vojenského historického ústavu. Práce je uvozena popisem okolností vzniku a vývoje knihovny, jež mají vliv na skladbu sbírek. Na tuto část navazuje přehled jednotlivých fondů knihovny, popis jednotlivých depozitářů knihovny i podmínek, v nichž jsou uloženy historické sbírky. Následuje nástin problematiky ochranného reformátování a zejména digitalizace knihovních fondů. Rozebírány jsou i možnosti zpřístupnění digitálních dokumentů v rámci České republiky. Poslední celek se již věnuje konkrétně možnostem digitalizace starých tisků a rukopisů ze sbírek knihovny VHÚ. Jsou zde uvažovány možnosti financování a způsob provedení digitalizace historických fondů, nechybí zevrubný přehled přístrojů vhodných k digitalizaci vzácných fondů. Závěr práce patří zhodnocení vhodného postupu digitalizace v podmínkách knihovny VHÚ.

The principles of services of presidential libraries

The diploma thesis is devoted to the topic of the presidential libraries and its aim is to analyze services of these libraries in Czech Republic. The theoretical part provides a comprehensive summary of presidential libraries, which have in the United States a long tradition. Gradually they are described from view of their character, history, law, administration, content, funding, criticism and future. The following is a presentation of two chosen foreign presidential libraries and Czech presidential Václav Havel Library. In the practical part there is made the comparison at first and its aim is to detect the principles of services of presidential libraries. The following is a presentation of the exploratory survey which discover, how are used the services of Václav Havel Library. The survey was focused on user evaluation of selected service, i.e. digital archive. This research helped map out the current situation and brought a lot of interesting information about attitudes from Czech and foreign users. Google Print / Google Book Search. Google digital library project and its issues

Diplomová práce analyzuje a vyhodnocuje ambiciózní a kontroverzní projekt volně dostupné digitální knihovny knižních publikací Google Book Search. -- První kapitola se věnuje elektronickým dokumentům, které jsou organizovány v digitálních knihovnách, institucionálních repozitářích a digitálních archivech v prostředí WWW, které jsou založeny na principu volného přístupu (Open Access, OA). Druhá a třetí kapitola se zabývá vyhledávacími službami internetu, převážně internetovým vyhledávačem Google (http://www.google.com). Zaměřuje se i na doplňkové služby nabízené společností Google. Stěžejní jsou kapitoly 4 a 5, kde je analyzován celý systém Google Book Search (http://books.google.com/). Pozornost je věnována historii systému, spolupracujícím institucím a zdrojovým projektům. Podkapitola 4.5 se zabývá vyhledáváním v systému a analýze výsledků, které systém poskytuje. 5. kapitola je zaměřena na autorskoprávní otázky, které souvisí s jedním ze zdrojových projektů systému Google Book Search. Je nastíněn pohled USA a Evropy na ochranu autorských práv a kritika projektu.

Current transformations of the ISSN system

Cílem práce je zmapování podstatných proměn ve vývoji Mezinárodního systému ISSN v posledním období. Největší pozornost je věnována proměnám, jež jsou objektivním důsledkem zavádění nových informačních technologií v globálním měřítku. V práci je nejprve stručně zmíněn vznik Mezinárodního systému ISSN. Další část je věnována nové kategorizaci pokračujících zdrojů, neboť ta je spolu s novými informačními technologiemi hlavním důvodem proměn Mezinárodního systému ISSN. Jádro práce tvoří část pojednávající o proměnách nástrojů, které Mezinárodní systém ISSN pro registraci zdrojů používá. Těmito nástroji jsou norma ISO 3297, software, bibliografický záznam zdroje a jeho formát. Následuje prezentace dopadů těchto proměn na hlavní produkt Mezinárodního systému ISSN - ISSN Registr. Z inovace nástrojů potřebných pro registraci zdrojů a následného zlepšení produktů a služeb lze soudit, že Mezinárodní systém ISSN bude nadále zaujímat významné postavení nejen v knihovnicko - informačním světě a díky své dynamice nezanikne v množství nově vznikajících identifikačních systémů. Providing online access to cultural heritage in context of selected issues of information politics.

Theses is devoted to some selected issues of cultural heritage online domain within context of information politics in which it takes a place. After dealing with terminology, including cultural heritage definition based on anthropological concept of culture and segmentation of cultural heritage according to UNESCO activities, the second chapter presents cultural heritage digitization and bringing online activities of European Union as a part of European information politics since 90s of 20th Century (important projects out of Europe are mentioned). Regarding to these politics the chapter focuses on participation of Czech Republic on putting European cultural heritage online. The third chapter is focused on college and university education in digitization and bringing cultural heritage online in USA and Europe, with a special focus on Slovac and Czech Republic. The fourth chapter sums up general characteristics of cultural heritage information systems and introduces some possible ways of their use in education and as information sources in libraries. The last chapter presents outputs of project devoted to development of digital library specialized on bringing online data obtained by research in private libraries.

Separeted librarries - Library of Karel Teige

The main goal of this thesis titled Separated libraries - Library of Karel Teige is based on Teige's important life events to pursue his creative activity and to connect it with his personal library. This topic will form the first part of the thesis - split into period of Devetsil and Surrealist group. In the second part, I deal with the issue of Teige's separated library and its further destiny after 1951. I focus primarily on Teige's estate in the Museum of Czech Literature and on its composition. An important item of this second part are letters between the Ministry of National Security - Headquarters of State Security and the National Security Secretary, which describe an event between the intervention of the State Security into the apartment of Karel Teige and depositing Teige's estate to the National Museum Library. This thesis should help to clarify how Teige's library was separated and where it was deposited.

The National Archival Collection of the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to introduce the The National Archival Collection of the Czech Republic (CR NKF). The library collection is absolutely unique in its main objective that is to collect all Czech and foreign bohemical printed and non-printed documents, including journals since 1901. This thesis aims to introduce this collection both in a historical and current context, especially via library line or through ongoing projects in cooperation with the CR NKF. In the end, the work exaplains long-term protection and preservation of modern library collections in foreign countries and compares it with the situation in the NKF in the Czech Republic.

Library of Vaclav Cerny

This thesis presents the personality of Vaclav Cerny and his personal library. First, the author turns the Černý's professional resume. The second part focuses on the critical activities readership portrait and popular heroes. Another part is defined Černý's personal library, general characteristics, its formation, the ways in which Černý harvested books, his work with books, literature review, and libraries that Černý visited during his life. The final part describes in detail the part of the library with existential literature, deals with the forerunners of existentialism and the Czech and foreign representatives of this philosophical direction.

Library of Karel Teige - the source for studying literary history

(in English) The paper analyzes the personal library of Karel Teige, the leading theorist of the Czech avant-garde, with respect to its cultural and political context. It presents the available information on its history and its role for studying literary history, surrealism in particular. The literary estate of Karel Teige is currently located in the National Museum Library (3828 items), Museum of Czech Literature (PNP; approx. 290 items), and partly in private ownership. Its composition reflects Teige's lifelong active participation in Czech surrealism and incorporates valuable samizdat books from the wartime period, when surrealist activities were illegal.
