Composite coatings containing nanometric constituents prepared by plasma spraying with liquid feedstocks
Mušálek, Radek ; Tesař, Tomáš ; Medřický, Jan ; Čížek, Jan ; Lukáč, František
Plasma spraying of liquid feedstocks allows deposition of materials with novel microstructures. Due to the combination of a liquid carrier and ultrafine powders (in case of suspensions) or in-situ formation of the final material in the plasma jet (in case of solutions), preparation of ultrafine composites is possible, typically in a form of coatings on the substrates. Moreover, both suspension and solution spraying routes can be easily combined, either together or even with conventional plasma spraying of coarse dry powders, thus merging benefits of “nanometric” and “micrometric” constituents in the final composite microstructure. As a consequence, liquid feedstock plasma spraying represents an industrially-relevant deposition process with wide variability, providing coatings with properties tailored for various applications ranging from compact wear-resistant layers, porous thermal barrier coatings, bio-compatible medical coatings, catalyst carriers, fuel-cells, etc. The paper introduces several examples of such ultrafine coatings recently deposited at IPP CAS using hybrid water-stabilized plasma torch.

PharmDr. Josef Malý, Ph.D. Title of Doctoral Thesis The aspects influencing the therapeutic value of anticoagulants in the Czech Republic Background and aim: Anticoagulants prevent the onset or maintaining of thromboembolic (TE) diseases. Both long-term used drugs, the disadvantages of which may limit treatment, and newer ones, the benefits of which may be limited by shorter clinical experience, are currently approved. Drug utilization may be an important indicator of trends in drug use, as well as pharmacovigilance surveillance and the benefits and risks assessment in clinical practice. Research related to the evaluation of the therapeutic value of anticoagulants and the factors influencing their use in clinical practice contribute to safer pharmacotherapy, therefore the aims of this thesis were: 1) to analyze the drug utilization of parenteral and oral anticoagulants (OACs) in the Czech Republic (CR) between the years 2007-2020; 2) to evaluate the numbers and characteristics of spontaneously reported suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs)...
Pastoral Care by Jan Patočka
Tesař, Tomáš ; Karfíková, Lenka (advisor) ; Kranát, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on the key question of Patocka"s thinking - care of the soul. In Patocka"s texts it represents the difference between life based on opinions accepted without critical thinking or practical decisions, called naive life, and life based on critical examining. In my opinion, this dichotomy between the two "ways of life" makes some kind of backbone of Patocka"s Plato and Socrates interpretations in his postwar lectures. The philosopher in Patocka"s texts is Socrates. He first reveals the soul as "the most inherent nature of man", that needs to be taken care of. Aware of this Patocka approaches two other great Greek philosophers - Plato and Aristotle as well as the periods of Christianity, Renaissance and Enlightenment. This on the one hand means certain degree of adoption of Socrates" "care of the soul" but on the other hand falling away from it. In the time of Renaissance and especially during Enlightenment a new spiritual style "care of the world" is being born. This leads, according to Patocka, to such kind of understanding the being, that definite abandonment of Socrates" "care of the soul" follows, and the fixed essence of man is in jeopardy. The final part of our thesis introduces Patocka"s noteworthy idea of a victim. Only being a victim brings the genuine freedom of man, who is then...

Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy Candidate Tatiana Belkina, MSc Supervisor doc. RNDr. Jozef Kolář, CSc. Title of Doctoral Thesis Non-prescribed antibiotic use in some developing countries and its association with drug resistance Background and Aims: The global emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance remain a major challenge to infection control and a predominant reason for therapy failure. Non-prescription access to antimicrobials is common, and self- prescribing is increasingly popular in a society with non-regulated access to antimicrobials. It is crucial to avoid self-medication in order to combat antimicrobial resistance. This research need has been addressed within 4 scientific projects with the following aims: P1: We examined knowledge, attitude and practices of antibiotic use in 3 Asian countries and estimated the frequency and reasons for self- medication. P2: This study aimed to evaluate the extent of delay in diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis in Uzbekistan and identify associated risk factors. P3: To evaluate knowledge of antibiotics, race, gender and age as independent risk factors for self-medication. P4: The aim of this study was to assess the attitudes of community pharmacists regarding antibiotic use...

1D model of laser-assisted potential scattering
Tesař, Tomáš ; Mašín, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kolorenč, Přemysl (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effect of strong ultrashort electric fields on scattering of a particle by a short range potential, using a simple one-dimensional model. The interaction potential has the form of a simple potential step. The transmission amplitude is calculated using Fourier analysis of the scattered wavefunction. The scat- tered wavefunction is obtained by solving numerically the time-dependent Schrödinger equation combining the finite difference spatial representation with the Crank Nicholson method to approximate the evolution operator. We validate and test the method on the analytically solvable problem of scattering by a potential barrier without the presence of the external field. Finally, we apply the method to calculation of laser assisted trans- mission through the potential barrier and find that transmission through the barrier can be strongly enhanced or suppressed depending on the choice of the field parameters. We provide elementary clues on interpretation of our findings. 1
Suspension plasma spraying of sub-stoichiometric titania by hybrid water/argon stabilized plasma torch
Mušálek, Radek ; Ctibor, Pavel ; Medřický, Jan ; Tesař, Tomáš ; Kotlan, Jiří ; Lukáč, František
In this study, suspension plasma spraying of sub-stoichiometric titania was attempted using hybrid water/argon stabilized plasma torch (WSP-H). Porous coatings with fine cauliflower-like columnar microstructure were successfully deposited in two separate experiments with different power levels of the plasma torch. In both cases, high solid-load content (40 wt. %) of the water-based suspension resulted in considerable coating thickness increase per deposition cycle. Coating annealing and partial remelting of the surface asperities were also achieved by additional pass of plasma torch in front of the coating surface. According to X-ray diffraction, all coatings consisted dominantly of rutile phase. Detailed microscopic observation of the as-sprayed and annealed deposits showed that the local coloration of the coating (ranging from dark blue to beige) was driven by the local overheating of the rough coating surface which could also promote the oxygen intake. Moreover, sample annealing was also observed to increase the sample reflectivity as observed by UV-VIS-NIR scanning spectrophotometry
