Information Seeking in the Mobile Environment

Jindra Planková, Ph.D. Abstract The dissertation thesis deals with information seeking in mobile environment using smartphone. For this purpose, a qualitative research is conducted, devided into two consecutive research activities. In the first activity are used semistructured interviews to collect the data and the grounded theory is used for data analysis. In the second activity are used methods "thinking aloud" and practical information seeking based on model scenarios. Results of the second research activity are evaluated by thematic analysis and task analysis. The findings have broadenend and deepend the state of current knowledge concerning the information seeking in the mobile environment. We consider exploration of limiting factors that affect information seeking in mobile environment as one of the most beneficial result as well as discovery of two extreme styles of information seeking in mobile environment. Special libraries in the 21st century - the entity-relationship model and the model of system library services

The dissertation is devoted to the analysis of the environment and the future prospects of special libraries. Knowledge has been achieved by direct observation, conceptual modeling and content analysis of scientific documents. Universum of special library can be expressed as an entity- relational model. Document services, which are based on the theoretical framework of information management, are proving to be the most important service in special libraries. Management of special libraries is based on knowledge of the information needs of the user community and the methodology of library processes. Library services are interconnected and the system can be expressed in the form of mind maps. Processes and services of special libraries can provide data for information-science research.

Problem of catalog objectives in digital environment: development and trends in building library catalogs from the bibliographic point of view PhDr. Barbora Drobíková Abstract The aim of the thesis is to explore current trends in building library catalogs from the bibliographic point of view. It focuses on formulation and exploration of trends in bibliography which may influence the library catalogs in near future. The introductory part defines several basic terms. It deals with the catalog objectives and methodological and technological questions in brief. Larger chapters describe the conceptual models FRBR, FRAD and FRSAD and studies which bring these models. These studies show a new view on objectives of bibliographic and authority records, therefore on library catalogs objectives too. This part is closed by an own analysis of these models, their comparison with the object-oriented model FRBRoo including a proposal of FRAD's and FRSAD's implementation into an object-oriented form. Electonic document delivery and new paradigm in librarianship

The theme of my dissertation is development of electronic document delivery systems and follow-up document delivery services in the Czech Republic, focused on academic libraries. The principal objective of my work is to describe historical aspects of document delivery services, their dissemination and development, terminology, technical requirements, specification of technology conditions of electronic document delivery services. I define basic typology and evaluation criteria of various providers of document delivery services in the electronic environment. I introduce specific practical possibilities of document delivery services, some of the document delivery services in abroad and the Czech Republic. My dissertation contemplates the recent social and political changes that have significantly contribute this work to formulate and pursue principles of information society. The work engages in theoretical aspects of planning of information systems and introduces elementary concept of multi-purpose centre for document delivery services in Czech academic environment. Interlibrary loan and worldwide trend of their expansion

Tématem rigorózní práce je charakteristika meziknihovní výpůjční služby, mezinárodní meziknihovní výpůjční služby a služeb dodávání dokumentů v České republice, v prostředí vysokoškolských knihoven. Cílem práce je objasnění historických aspektů a terminologického zázemí jednotlivých knihovnicko-informačních služeb. Meziknihovní a mezinárodní meziknihovní služby jsou analyzovány a hodnoceny na základě dostupných legislativních dokumentů, metodických a organizačních principů, s ohledem na vysledování jejich specifických rysů v rámci vysokoškolských knihoven. Hlavní pozornost je zaměřena na rozpoznání vývojových směrů a trendů v oblasti elektronického dodávání dokumentů a poskytování služeb dodávání dokumentů. Práce se věnuje teoretickým aspektům vzniku a rozšíření služeb dodávání dokumentů a poukazuje na terminologické souvislosti, se zřetelem k potřebám vysokoškolských knihoven. Možnosti praktického využití služeb dodávání dokumentů jsou vymezeny zejména v rámci analýzy a popisu vybraných představitelů dokumentových dodavatelských služeb v zahraničí i v ČR. Další rozvoj meziknihovních služeb a služeb dodávání dokumentů je spojen především s rozvojem ICT a dalších informačních systémů, na které je v práci poukázáno. Global changes in the new building the information society strongly affect all areas of scientific communication and access to social cognition. The main role here played by the processes associated with the information searching and survey in making complex, searching and mediation of professional information and knowledge from information sources with „Open Access“. It will address current issues of Open Access to technical and scientific information indicates a change in their communication. On the basis of practical and theoretical bases will be formulated a general model of a modern operation of "Open Access" will be characterized by various factors and elements of the system, referring to the possibility of their use in communicating scientific and technical information on science and research in the Czech environment.
