The television series Wifina in the context of media literacy and education through media
Novotná, Helena ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lucie (referee)
This diploma thesis is an addition to the discussion on media literacy development, which also deals with the effectiveness of children's education via a television program. The work offers a brief content overview of public broadcasting television channel ČT:D, focusing on shows that enlighten the viewers about facts from various fields (which are thus regarded educational). The television program Wifina is described in detail and is the center of later research. The first part of this document defines the factors that affect reception of information from television broadcast. The thesis introduces different variations of key media literacy concepts, including the specific way they are handled in the Czech setting. The objective of this work is to determine, whether the show Wifina enhances development of media literacy through its content, and whether this content helps to broaden general knowledge and education of the viewers. Based on content analysis of the program and subsequent qualitative comparative analysis of two groups of children - viewers and non-viewers - the author ascertains, whether Wifina educates its viewers about media-related subjects, as well as other areas. Evaluation of the research offers not only specific cases of broadcast (non-)affected viewers, but also a debate on...
Emile Zola and Honoré de Balzac: The (Im)perfection of artwork
Novotná, Helena ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (advisor) ; Pohorský, Aleš (referee)
The bachelor thesis Émile Zola and Honoré de Balzac: The (Im)perfection of artwork is an analytical comparison of the content of these two works, where the authors of these pieces are the main representatives among the French novel writers in the 19th century. The main portion of this thesis contains a comparison of The Unknown Masterpiece (Le Chef- d'oeuvre inconnu, 1837) from Balzac and The Masterpiece (L'Oeuvre, 1886) from Zola. The beginning of this thesis looks at several events in the lives of the authors, which inspired the creation of the two works that are being compared. The following chapter analyzes the keypoints in the short story from Balzac. This section looks predominantly at the character of the painter, the process of his work, as well as the art theories that are contained in the text. The very same format is used for the analysis of The Masterpiece by Zola. After that, a comparison of the analyzed parts follows, and the conclusion pinpoints the different approach that both writers took to the same topic.
Vliv nanočástic na rostliny =: Impact of Nanoparticles on Plants /
Novotná, (roz. Štuříková) Helena
Engineered nanomaterials and nanoparticles are, due to their convinient properties, becoming common in many fields of human activity. According to this, there is growing concern about their impact on the environment. The plant kingdom is an essential component of all ecosystems and it is also an important human food source. This dissertation thesis summarizes existing knowledge about impact of nanoparticles/nanomaterials on different plant species (mainly cultural crops) and about mechanism of uptake, translocation, accumulation, metabolism and phytotoxicity of nanoparticles. In the experimental part, the transport of cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) was observed. The impact of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) on sunflower was compared to zinc sulfate and evaluated via physiological and biochemical parameters. The effect of ZnO NPs on microalgae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was also observed. The study of mobility of CdTe QDs in sunflower showed the plants’ abillity to transport and accumulate CdTe QDs in vascular bundles. ZnO NPs were toxic for plants and negatively affected their germination and growth. This fact correlated with the change of stress markers activity, and the phytotoxic effect was even more intense in comparison to ZnSO4. On the other hand, the better uptake of zinc ions was observed under influence of ZnO NPs, than under the influence ZnSO4. This fact offers the consideration of ZnO NPs as potential fertilizer. The ZnO NPs also negatively affected growth of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and changed its levels of some stress metabolites.

Houston, we have a problem: how to teach young generation to preserve sound cultural heritage
Horová, Iva ; Novotná, Helena ; Šír, Filip
Media preservation and archiving needs unique skillsets. We live in a time of technology that enables us to utilize it in favor of the world sound cultural heritage, especially in terms of its protection for the next generations. We would like to ask and discuss some crucial questions related to our power, to the IASA aims, objectives and possibilities in the matter of design, promotion and dissemination of training in this area. But it's not just about special education and training in the usual concept. It must go on activities in the broadest sense and widest conception. Great emphasis must be placed on the motivation of getting support from the Decisions makers. We should start with a basic broad awareness. We need advocacy strategies and changing leadership skills. It is necessary to seek new ways of cooperation and ways of thinking. We need reshaping of our own minds, our abilities and skills. Without the young generation we are lost – we need to involve it, to wake up their interest, pass on to them our knowledge and know-how. On several cases from our practice in the CR we will show how successful we were and where we were not.

The launch of ČT:D television channel through the eyes of pedagogical staff and the parents of preschool children
Novotná, Helena ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Zábrodská, Kristina (referee)
In August 2013 a new television channel called ČT:D was launched in the Czech Republic - a public service children's channel. In this thesis I introduce ČT:D and put it in contrast with the commercial channels. The thesis includes a summary of children's television channels which compete with ČT:D during the research period, as well as an overview of public service television channels which broadcast in European countries, focusing on German KiKA and British CBBC and CBeebies. As part of this thesis a research was carried out utilizing in-depth interviews to examine preschool children's parents' opinions on the new broadcast. Especially interesting and valuable are the interviews with a preschool teacher and a special needs educator, who looks after disabled children on a daily basis. The research was conducted in three stages and thus records the parents' expectations, their first impressions and evalution of the specific shows, as well as of the channel overall. For the conduction of the interviews and their analysis, subject areas were set so that this thesis focuses on the differencies of ČT:D from the commercial channels when presenting the parents' opinions and on the perception of its public-service aspect, also on its safeness, utilization of web sites, the downsides and recommended...

Novotná, Helena ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
In the age of rush development of information technologies and the internet, The Economic Newspaper, a print medium facing decline in general, is trying to stop the rapid rate of decline in newspaper readership and in sold newspaper circulation. Since the newspaper's establishment the planned relaunch has been its most ambitious arrangement that aims to proactively react on free online provided news which you can read or listen to whenever and wherever you want. In my thesis, when using the description method, I focus on relaunch of the newspaper and its brand itself. Starting at reference basis and explaining step by step arrangements that should have helped to refresh the brand and to confront the newspaper decline successfully. Then I continue with brand building process description and media brand building more in detail. In the other chapters I present the relaunch goals and marketing tactics necessary to be implemented for the success of the relaunch. At the end of the thesis the efficiency of the relauch in relation to the readers and advertisers is evaluated. The thesis reader should understand the strategic step of the printed newspaper brand which took a great challenge when trying to succeed in the competition with online media and other newspapers.
