High-Frequency Trading Using External DRAM
Nevrkla, Lukáš ; Kořenek, Jan (referee) ; Martínek, Tomáš (advisor)
The primary part of low-latency trading is a machine that can trade with lower latency than any other trader. Hardware-accelerated platforms can reduce trading latency down to hundreds of nanoseconds. This work focuses on a specific data structure (Order Book) inside this hardware platform that manages the current market price levels. The current implementation manages this data structure inside the software of the hosting machine, and only a few best price levels are inside the hardware. Synchronization between hardware and software has a latency in the order of microseconds. Therefore the best price levels are sometimes unavailable inside the hardware platform. This work presents a solution for managing this structure inside FPGA while saving its content inside the external dynamic memory. The new solution reduces the latency down to 150–200 nanoseconds with occasional (2 % cases) increase to 450–650 nanoseconds. Lower latency will help the trading platform react faster to larger stock market changes which are very important for traders.
Two 1939 Soviet - German Pacts and Their Reflection in the Press of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia
Nevrkla, Lukáš ; Václavů, Lubor (advisor) ; Míšková, Alena (referee)
Two 1939 Soviet-German Pacts and Their Reflection in the Press of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia Abstract The main aim of the thesis is to analyze the reflection of the Soviet-German relations in the Czech legal press of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia at the time of the outbreak of the Second World War when the Ribbentrop-Molotov non-aggression pact (23 August 1939) and of the treaty of borders and friendship (27 September 1939) transformed the character of the international relations in the Central and Eastern Europe. At first, the text concentrates on analysis of the contemporaneous circumstances both in terms of international relations in Europe and in terms of internal domestic policies in the protectorate. In the following part, the author discusses the protectorate press response to the two German-Soviet treaties as well as the press attitudes to a number of other related issues such as the Soviet-Japanese conflict in Mongolia. The thesis is based on research of a series of Czech protectorate dailies, namely A- Zet, České slovo, Národní práce, Venkov a Vlajka. However, it also takes into account two illegal Czech periodicals, the magazine V boj and the Communist illegal newspaper Rudé právo.

Nevrkla, Lukáš ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee) ; Smetana, Vít (referee)
The main aim of the thesis is to analyse the British foreign and defence policy attitude toward the Baghdad Pact (Central Treaty Organisation, CENTO) and the Northern Tier countries from 1955-1964. The text seeks to outline the role and importance which the British foreign and defence policy attributed to the pact as well as the British perception of the Communist threat to the Middle East as it was reflected in the documents related to the British participation in the alliance. The text concentrates on the analysis of the British interpretation of the alliance, in particular with respect to the impact of the Cold War on the international relations in the Middle East (1955-1964) and the transformation which affected the British position and Special Relationship with the United States in the Middle East. The thesis follows the development of British foreign and defence policy between 1955 and 1964. Approaching the Baghdad Pact (CENTO) as a tool of British foreign and defence policy in the Middle East (1955-1964), it seeks to identify and specify the functions attributed to the pact by the British and Foreign Policy and outline their development and changing priority. In addition, the thesis analyses the development and structural problems of the Baghdad Pact (CENTO) from 1955 to 1964, connecting...
A comparison of political hedging in British and Australian political discourse
Nevrkla, Lukáš ; Klégr, Aleš (advisor) ; Šaldová, Pavlína (referee)
The thesis analyses the pragmatic aspects of the language of political discourse in the particular context of the institute of parliamentary question time. The thesis examines and compares the use of hedging in the context of other communication management strategies (e.g., evasion, reformulation, dodging a footing shift) in the British House of Commons and in the Australian House of Representatives. In addition, the thesis seeks to test the methodological approaches and verify the conclusions reached in previous research, especially by Alan Partington (2003) and Bruce Fraser (2010). The First British Application to the EEC and it's Reflection in the British Press: Contribution to History of Great Britain in 20th Century
Nevrkla, Lukáš ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
The First British Application to the EEC and it's Reflection in the British Press: Contribution to History of Great Britain in 20th Century: Summary In July 1961 applied British government lead by conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan for membership in the European Economic Community. The following two years of the Brussels negotiations aroused in British public opinion a growing amount of debates and discussions which dealt not only with the attitudes of the British to Europe and European integration but also with the development of Britain's policies, society and identity. Analysis of this public debates, which peaked at the time of de Gaulle's veto of the British application in January 1963, stands as the main topic in this diploma paper. First two chapters deal with response of the British public to the announcement of the application and examine the resulting debates in context of British internal development and home policies of Conservative, Labor and Liberal Party. The third bloc concentrates on the matter of the British membership in the Common Market with respect to the public perception of the development of the British defense policies and British military relations with France. Political and economic relations between Great Britain and its colonies in north America in the Seven years' war
Nevrkla, Lukáš ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
Great Britain and thirteen British American mainland colonies in the age of the Seven Year's War. My principal objection was to analyse the impact of the war on the development of these relations during the war in connection with the preceding historical development and with respect to the moovement of the events in the 1760s and 1770s of the 18th century. The chapter one gives a short survey of the structure of colonial economic and colonial commerce of Great Britain and "thirteen colonies" in Norht America. Futhermore it presents a concise cultural and social portrait of British colonial merchants and their counterparts in American colonies. The chapter two consists of an analysis of the effect of the political and economical connections of the Seven Years' War on the political structure of the colonies. This process is ilustrated by an example of the emacipation of colonial assemblies as in relation to Great Britain as well as in local politics. The Chapter three deals with the changed post-war conditions in North America and provides a short account of her old animosities and new problems. Moreover it analyses the first steps of British policy in years after the signature of the peace of Paris. The Seven Year's War had shaped the state of affairs in 60's and 70's of the 18th century. However amazing the...
