Typology of spam email written in Czech language

The presented thesis proposes a new typology system for Czech-language email spam. Its categorization is based primarily on the persuasive method used. Particular factors relevant for the classification are derived from subsurface observations via the method of semiotic analysis. The multi-layered typology differentiates between spam sales and imitation spam, between identity-imitating and situation-imitating spam. Another layer of categorization identifies the area of incentive for the desired action. The areas are finance, health, sexuality, and consumption. Ideological spam is recognized as a separate category. The typology derives validity from its application to a sample of Czech spam emails originating between January and April 2023. The method used is quantitative content analysis, which allowed the observed characteristics to be presented in a statistical context. Furthermore, it made it possible to elementarily map the nature of spam appearing in the email inboxes of Czech-speaking recipients at the beginning of 2023. The research is based upon a survey of existing typological systems and cases of the application of semiotic analysis to email spam. Internet memes as a tool of popcultural citizenship

This bachelor thesis focuses on internet memes as a possible element of political communication. Memes themselves were first investigated by R. Dawkins in the late 1970s. With the rise of the Internet, the concept began to appear under the term 'Internet memes'. The history of the concept of meme, both in its classical and internet form, is included in this thesis, alongside their definitions, as with the concept of political communication, for which I offer different variants of definition. In addition, I also present the Internet homes of memes, i.e. the websites on which Internet memes have developed (and continue to develop) and on which they are disseminated. After introducing the basic categories of memes, I focus on introducing the "Pepe the Frog" meme, as a distinctly unique meme with respect to its history and "life journey", in the context of political communication. Subsequently, I offer other formats of memes, from other categories, that have been used in political communication, but their history is not as deep and significant as Pepe's. Riot photography in the context of the Czech environment after the year of 1989

This thesis explores various aspects of riot photography in the context of the Czech environment after the year of the 1989, with focus on the far left. First, it introduces the subjects of protests, new radical activism as well as describes the role of photography in protests. It deals with the role of the media in protests and linked with that topic, it also describes informing about protests, concept of moral panic and the media's ability to form meaning. Furthermore, it deals with iconic photographs, the issue of objectivity, emotional side of riot photography and photojournalistic ethics. In addition to that, it clarifies what extremism really is, it defines the far left, and it maps the history of the far left in the Czech Republic after the year of 1989 on a selected groups, especially anarchists. In the context of the far left it also describes the biggest riots in the Czech Republic. Portraits of four Czech photographers - Jaroslav Kučera, Karel Tůma, Karel Cudlín and Petr Vrabec, follow. In the final part it examines aspects of protest photography by interviewing selected photographers, and through analysis of their photographs it analyzes styles of shooting protests and it reveals a potential imaging stereotypes.

Children's perception of poverty and wealth in the context of media representations

This thesis explores how children perceive extreme manifestations of social inequalities - poverty and wealth, and what role do media and media representations play in this process. Based on the literature, it is focusing on media construction of reality, media representations, and social inequalities in general, at the same time it deals with poverty and wealth in the context of perception and media representations, and it also explores the relationship between children and media. Furthermore, by analyzing the results of interviews with children the thesis directly examines how they perceive poverty and wealth and what role do media play in this process. The main finding concerning the social inequalities is that most children perceive them as legitimate and to justify them they use the method of naturalization or/and romanticization of poverty. The main finding concerning the media influence is that media affect children subconsciously and that their thoughts and attitudes to poverty and wealth correspond with media representations of the same in the media production for children.
