Works stress and coping strategies in relations to human immune system

Úvod ABSTRACT Work stress and coping strategies in relation to the state of the human immune system Research in recent decades has shown that not only purely biological factors have an effect on the immune system and the possible development of disease. It is becoming increasingly clear that psychological factors must also be taken into account. The topic of our research is to try to clarify, at least partly, how coping with work and life worries (or mental stress) affects a person's health, mainly the activity of immune system, especially in relation to the possible progression of cancer. In the presented research we focus on three basic research areas, being the possible connection between the experienced number of demanding life and work events and the increased chance for the development of oncological disease. Furthermore, we look to identifying the possible difference in the use of strategies for overcoming stress in sick people and those who do not get sick. In the last part of the research, the possible connection between the experience of cancer and the perceived positive benefits of this challenging life experience. Selected factors positively influencing a work engagement of managers

The thesis concerns a topic of work engagement of individuals on managerial positions within a context of selected factors that positively influence such an engagement. Factors that keep those individuals on a imaginary line further from potential negative consequences, e.g. burnout syndrome, are elaborated. A theoretical part aims to elaborate a field of personality of manager, a theoretical background of work engagement, its theories and concepts and eventually concrete moderating factors stated in literature. An empirical part introduces a research mapping those moderating factors of managers within the Czech population. The goal is to find out which factors positively influence their work engagement. In regard of a connection between the work engagement and stress there is an additional research goal aiming to find out which strategies help managers to decrease their stress level. Based on gathered data 6 factors positively influencing the work engagement were arised: social support, job autonomy, variety of tasks, goal achievement, feedback and work meaningfulness; and four factors helping to decrease the stress level: analysis of situation, problem- focused coping, distance and physical activity. Personality and social competence of the doctor-obstetrician and the possibilities of their development

The thesis is focused on the analysis and description of personal and social competencies of a doctor-obstetrician which are expected, but still there is not enough attention given to their definition, development and creation of conditions necessary for their application. The main objective of the empirical part of the thesis is to explore and describe personal and social competencies from the view of obstetricians themselves and from the view of expectant mothers and suggest possibilities of their development based on found needs and personal preferences. The mixed design of the research corresponds the most to the objective of the thesis. The qualitative part of the research is done using descriptive case study and is built on focus groups with doctors and semi-structured interviews with women-expectant mothers. The objective of the second, quantitative part of the research is to find out what is the predominant personality preference of an obstetrician measured by the personality questionnaire Golden Profiles of Personality and then find out the structure and level of the development of social competencies of obstetricians using the Social Skills Inventory and examine if there is a connection between personal preferences and social competencies. Strategies leading to work and personal life harmonization

The thesis focuses on work and personal life harmonization and strategies that can lead to this harmony. The theoretical part contains general introduction to work and personal life harmonization problematics. Then follows the core of theoretic part, the overview of these strategies in the work, the family and the personal area. In this part there is also summary of their pros and possible risks. The empirical part is using qualitative methodology and is based on findings from theoretical part. Using semi- structured interviews, there were found out strategies which are used by employees from one specific company. In the work area associates often mentioned flexible work hours and home office. Their manager's approach seems to be very important. In the family area there was often mentioned help from partner and grandparents. The main aspects in the personal were "mental setting" switching roles or breaking point (milestone in life, which made individual to change his or her approach to harmonization).
Group communication and perceived team performance within work teams

The objective of this thesis is to provide theoretical and empirical insights on the subject of group communication and perceived performance within work teams. The theoretical section provides a definition and outlines the importance of work teams, it references selected psychological aspects and factors. This study details aspects of communication and performance in the context of work teams. It reveals opportunities to increase performance in the subject of learning teams, especially, where communication is its foundation. In addition, this thesis describes and interconnects new knowledge regarding the possibilities of improving performance, whilst exploring the relationship between communication and performance. At the same time, it presents an overview of the approaches and methods of measuring these aspects. The empirical section details the various the relationships of various communication parameters and the perceived performance within teams. The attitudes of managers and employees towards teleworking

Thanks to development of modern technologies, teleworking can be considered as a modern way of distant work. Presented bachelor's thesis is focused on this phenomenon, concretely on the attitudes of managers and employees towards this type of work. Its implementation into firms has pros and cons and creates new, so far unknown claims on managers and employees. Theoretical part is focused on these claims from the point of view of three parts of attitudes (emotional, cognitive and behavioral). Moreover, theoretical part is further detailed focused on three factors (support, communication, trust), on which is strongly dependent a decision, whether in the organizations teleworking will be supported or not. Second part of thesis is proposal of research project, which is related to finding out the attitudes of managers and employees in the organization using of combination quantitative and qualitative methodology.
Organizational culture - A difference between outward stylization and operational reality

Diploma thesis is focusing on the declared and actually perceived organizational culure. Theoretical part defines the concet of organizational culture, focuses on description of individual attributes of the organizational culture and its structure. Attention is paid also to some typologies of the organizational culture, and to an overview of current level of knowledge regarding the area of declared and actually percieved organizational culture. In the empirical part, a case study of a chosen organization has been conducted, attempting to describe given phenomena. Content analysis has been used to study declared organizational culture, actually percieved organizational culture has been measured by OCAI and way of employees' understanding of this phenomenon has been reviewed in transcriptions of interviews with employess. The subjective determinants of job performance and job involvement in organizational context.

The job performance is conditioned by range of objective factors and subjective determinants as well. This thesis dedicates to mapping of job involvement meaning engagement, enthusiasm, commitment and work motivation. Considering to that, oganization can influence future job performance of its employee through employee development, when it tries to grow up the job interest, develops requiered skills and so potencially supports one's performance. The text tries to sum up knowledge background of subjective factors influencing job performance and job involvement and evaluates possibilites which can be used by organization to participate in the development. The end of the thesis is devoted to a project to investigate the correlation between job involvement and job satisfaction as indicators of job performance.

The thesis deals with several basic topics such as subjective determinants of job performance, job involvement and job engagement. The theoretical part is devoted to the description of some phenomena and it presents the overview of approaches and concepts used; it maps interpretation ways with the reference to terminological inconsistencies existing in the field. The focus of the theoretical part is put on the description of job performance and its subjective determinants followed by the overview of methods enabling job performance measurement. Furthermore, the concepts of job involvement and engagement are introduced with the emphasis on the diversity of the theories and definitions related to these terms. The conclusion of the theoretical part provides the overview of the studies dealing with the relationship between these concepts, and also broader interconnections with other issues of man-and-work relationships are described. The empirical part presents a research project introducing job performance measurement of employees in education area and the level of their engagement.
