Incidence of obesity in young school-age children
Balcarová, Kateřina ; Kytnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Frühauf, Pavel (referee)
This master's thesis investigates the incidence of obesity in young school-age children, in two groups aged 6-8 and 10-12 years. Firstly, it summarises the current state of literature about obesity in children, secondly, the young school-age children are characterised and thirdly, it informs about healthy lifestyle in primary school lessons. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of obesity in young school-age children, to assess their eating and exercise habits and to find out if they are guided towards a healthy lifestyle during lessons. The test group included 214 participants (132 girls and 82 boys). Data collection was divided into two parts: the first part included anthropometric measurements (height, weight and waist circumference) and the second part questioned children's eating and exercise habits by a survey. The results show a lower incidence of obesity in the examined group compared to the literature. However, a higher incidence of obesity in older children corresponds with existing literature. Regularity of having breakfast and consuming sweet drinks was significantly connected to the BMI Z-score value. Conversely, the association of BMI Z-score value with the distribution of physical exercise lessons (PE classes) per week was not significant. Education including healthy lifestyle...
The impact of awareness and professional help on the lenght of exclusive breastfeeding
Jindřichová, Michaela ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Frühauf, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of exclusive breastfeeding - especially with the impact of awareness and professional help on the length of exclusive breastfeeding. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part briefly describes the physiology of lactation, the compositionof breast milk, its comparisonwith infant formula and benefits of breastfeeding for mother and child. It also discusses the principles of successful breastfeeding, breastfeedingtechniques, breastfeedingsupport, the most commonproblems that can occur duringbreastfeeding, andbest practices tomanage them. The practical part was made on the basis of an anonymous questionnaire survey, which took place from December 2021 to March 2022 in 4 pediatric offices in the capital city of Prague and the district of Prague-East. The questionnaire was designedfor mothers of their first-born infants between6 and 12 months of age. A total of 32 respondents took part in the survey. The main aim of the work was to find out whether the professional help provided during difficulties during exclusive breastfeeding helps to significantly prolong the duration of exclusive breastfeeding (with a comparison of individual professions). The secondary aims were to find out the proportion of mothers who need...
New regulatory hormones of breast milk
Mitrová, Katarína ; Bronský, Jiří (advisor) ; Frühauf, Pavel (referee) ; Kohout, Pavel (referee)
Background: Breastfeeding is supposed to exert long-term protection of the infant from the development of civilisation diseases later in life. Adiponectin, leptin and AFABP are candidate proteins in nutritional programming of the infant. Aim: To determine intraindividual changes of breast milk levels of regulatory hormones (adiponectin, leptin, AFABP) and adipophilin in breast milk during 12 months of lactation. Methods: Proteins were measured using high sensitive ELISA method in 72 healthy mothers within 2 days of beginning of lactation (day 0) and 1, 3, 6 and 12 months following delivery. Results: Adiponectin levels in breast milk on day 0 (D0) were 22.8 ± 0.8 (mean ± S.E.M.), in 1 month (M1) 22.0 ± 0.6, in 3 months (M3) 20.5 ± 0.6, in 6 months (M6) 21.4 ± 0.8, and in 12 months (M12) 25.7±1.4 ng/ml. AFABP levels were 12.3 ± 2.0, 6.2 ± 1.3, 1.3 ± 0.2, 2.5 ± 1.0 and 4.6 ± 1.9 ng/ml, respectively. Leptin levels were 0.3 ± 0.04, 0.2 ± 0.03, 0.1 ± 0.01, 0.1 ± 0.02 and 0.2 ± 0.04 ng/ml, respectively. Adipophilin levels in D0 were 1.98 ± 0.12, in M1 2.83 ± 0.21, in M3 2.39 ± 0.17, in M6 2.57 ± 0.16, and in M12 3.25 ± 0.21 μg/ml. We found significantly higher levels of adiponectin in M12 in comparison to M3 and M6 (p = 0.0026), higher levels of AFABP in D0 and M1 when compared to M3, M6 and M12 (p < 0.0001) and...
Changes Air Transport Industry after Deregulation, Specific Case of Germany
Frühauf, Pavel ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Seidenglanz, Daniel (referee)
The theme of this thesis is the air transport and its dramatic and dynamic development in the last twenty years. The key driving force behind this change was the deregulation of air agreements and liberalization of international markets, which took place in the seventies in the USA and in the nineties in Europe. This work addresses specific and general effects of deregulation and the development of air transport industry and aims to identify and analyze changes of its structures in space and time. One of the major and direct impacts and consequences of deregulation is that the free market allowed the emergence of new low-cost airlines, which significantly changed the structure and trends of air transport. The changes allowed for greater mobility of people, goods and capital, and also caused a partial change in consumer behaviour of individuals and institutions, and even more interconnected global economy. The source of data and information are primarily articles in professional journals written in English. Knowledge from particular analysis and research approaches to air traffic from the first part of this work is confronted with empirical research. This was based on the statistical data of air traffic in Germany, for each airport from 1991 to 2010 and verified the theoretical concepts of the general...
Comparison of Somatic Parameters of the Standard and BLW Methods of Introducing Complementary Food to 12 Months Old Infants
Skalková, Zdislava ; Frühauf, Pavel (advisor) ; El-Lababidi, Nabil (referee)
Introduction: The BLW method (Baby-Led Weaning) is an increasingly used method of introducing complementary nutrition to infants, in which the phase of feeding a puree with a spoon is completely omitted and larger pieces of food are immediately offered to the infants. There are concerns that children at BLW may cause worse thriving of them. Aims: The main aim of the work is to compare the somatic parameters of 12 months old infants depending on the method of feeding. The partial goals are to find out how much information parents have about the BLW method and what their child's nutrition looks like in their first year of life. Methods: Retrospective observational research was carried out by means of a questionnaire survey among parents of toddlers aged from the end of the 12th month to the end of the 18th month. The set consisted of 186 respondents for the evaluation of general information about the child's nutrition. Somatic parameters (head circumference, length/height, weight and weight/length [height] ratio at 12 months) were evaluated in a set of 153 respondents, the data were obtained from the child's health card. Data collection took place at the turn of February and March 2021. The data comparison was performed by t-test and ANOVA test. Results: The mean weight percentile at 12 months is...
Assessment of Nutritional Status and Clinical Manifestation in Infants with Allergic Colitic
Weidenthalerová, Edita ; Floriánková, Marcela (advisor) ; Frühauf, Pavel (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the evaluation of clinical manifestations in infants with allergic colitis and their overall nutritional status, anthropometry, blood count and antibodies against cow's milk proteins. Allergic colitis is one of the most common manifestations of infant allergy to cow`s milk protein with gastrointestinal involvement. The theoretical part summarizes the anthropometric evaluation of growth and development, infant nutrition, the most important laboratory indicators of nutritional status. The part is generally devoted to food allergies, mainly allergy to cow's milk protein. The practical part deals with the evaluation of a sample of examined patients in gastroenterology outpatient clinics and nutritional outpatient clinic of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and General Hospital in Prague. The observed group of infants with allergic colitis includes infants exclusively breastfed, breastfed by a mother following a non-dairy diet, infants on an extensive hydrolyzate or on an amino acid formula. The main goal of the diploma thesis was to trace the most common clinical manifestations and whether there are any changes in their nutritional status during the disease and its treatment. A total of 45 randomly...
Celiac disease in childhood and adherence to gluten-free diet
Číhová, Anna ; Frühauf, Pavel (advisor) ; El-Lababidi, Nabil (referee)
Basis: Celiac disease is a systemic autoimmune disease caused by gluten intolerance in genetically predisposed individuals that occurs in both children and adults. The presence of gluten in the diet results in the intestinal inflammation, crypt hyperplasia and villus atrophy in the predisposed individuals and consequently nutrient malabsorption. Celiac manifestations include a diverse spectrum of gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal disorders. The only treatment that leads to the normalization of the intestinal mucosa and the disappearance of problems is a lifelong, strictly gluten-free diet. Objective: Two objectives were chosen for this work. The first objective was to compare the levels of antibodies and thereby the compliance to the gluten-free diet of patients diagnosed by the biopsy and the non-biopsy procedure. The second objective was to compare the somatic parameters (weight, height and BMI) of all 170 individuals with the celiac disease, with the general population, especially the compliant and non-compliant patients with the general population, and the two groups. Methodology: In the practical part of this work, the chosen method was an anonymous collection of data from medical records. All findings that were collected were registered and compared and the statistics were analysed by...
The importance of the non-dairy complementary food for child's following health development
Kylarová, Adéla ; Frühauf, Pavel (advisor) ; El-Lababidi, Nabil (referee)
This thesis deals with the implementation of complementary food into infant's nutrition and its effect on baby's later health. In the theoretical part the relationship between nutrition in the early age and later morbidity and mortality is explored. Complementary food is discussed as a one of the aspects, which epigenetically influences future metabolism by so called nutritional programming. Appropriate procedure of introducing normal family diet is described as well as its physiological reasoning. Besides optimal timing, the ideal way of introducing each food is explored. Psychological aspects of implementing complementary food are looked into as well. Next, the situation in the Czech Republic concerning baby food is examined. In the practical part, the thesis deals with the awareness of Czech women about the introduction of complementary food, their awareness of first complementary food, ideal foods for infants and implementing normal family food to baby's nutrition in infant stage. The questionnaire was answered by 164 women. It was found that awareness is inadequate, most women manage to introduce first complementary food, but know little about further nutritional procedure. This phenomenon was more distinct in pregnant women than in mothers. But even among mothers, greater awareness of...
