Icesave dispute and Icelandic EU application
Tůmová, Kateřina ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Hořejšová, Tereza (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyzes the influence of the Icesave dispute on the EU application and answers a research question, if the dispute poses an essential threat to Icelandic membership in the EU. The conflict over the Icesave debt began after the collapse of Icelandic banking system during the global economic crisis in 2008. Icesave was an online brand by the bank Landsbanki, which provided savings account in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The biggest problem in the dispute was reimbursement of the Icesave debt, which should Iceland paid for to both of the countries due to the Icelandic membership in the European Economic Area and on the base of the EU directive on deposit-guarantee schemes. The first chapter of this bachelor thesis is dealing with a development of the Icelandic financial crisis and with an excursion to the Icelandic banking system. The cause of the Icelandic financial crisis wasn't the global economic crises itself but also the unsustainable size of the Icelandic banking sector. The following chapter contains origins and development of the Icesave dispute and its international dimension. The third chapter is dealing with Icelandic EU application (July 2009). And the last chapter is the analysis of possibilities, how the Icesave dispute can thwart the EU membership, and...

Cingrošová, Tereza ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Hořejšová, Tereza (referee)
The Diploma thesis "Refugee Integration in Denmark: Success or Failure? Employment as a Guarantee of Successfull Integration? The Case of Refugees from Central and Eastern Europe." is aimed at the level of success of integration of refugees who came to Denmark during the 70's and 80's of the last century from the countries of the former Soviet block. This thesis is a case study that is based on the theoretical hypothesis of the refugee integration process. These assumptions are confronted with empirical research based on a writen survey of asylum applicants coming from former communist countries of Central-Eastern Europe. This study deals with two types of refugees and three types of economical integration. The result of the study is that the level of integration in Denmark depends on the type of economic integration of a refugee. The economic integration also has an impact on other dimensions of the process - social and cultural integration. If the economic integration is unsuccessful, then the cultural and social integration is obstructed as well. The consequence of this situation is at least in the case of the respondents, dissatisfaction with their own integration into a receiving country. These individuals do not feel like being part of the host society and want a retirement home return. Danish...
Icelandic fisheries as the national interest and its influence on the formation of the foreign policy
Tůmová, Kateřina ; Hořejšová, Tereza (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
Presented thesis analyzes the Icelandic fisheries as a national interest and its role in foreign policy. Importance of fisheries confirms the fact that in the first half of the twentieth century marine products accounted for over 90% of Iceland's exports and the Icelandic economy was fully dependent on one sector. Gradual diversification of the economy in the seventies, however, caused a decline in exports of fish products to one-third of total exports. The thesis assumes that the Icelandic fisheries have a significant impact on foreign policy, even though its economic importance is declining. The research is carried out on three historical events, such as the cod wars in the fifties and the seventies, mackerel dispute in 2010 and the withdrawal of Iceland's application to the EU in 2015. It would be expected that due to the economic ties and Icelandic membership in international organizations (NATO, EFTA) the Icelandic government would primarily seek peaceful solutions in international conflicts. However, it could be observed in the Icelandic case that due to the pressure of the domestic politics the government does not respond as it would be expected. According to the neoclassical realism the thesis should verify a hypothesis that in a case of security threat, the Icelandic government will give...
Europeanization of Denmark: Role of the National Specifics?
Peregrinová, Hana ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Hořejšová, Tereza (referee)
Diploma thesis "Europeanization of Denmark: the Role of the National Specifics?" describes on the Danish case how European integration can effect political actors in member states. The author strives how Europeanization has affected the Danish government; parliament and political parties and what were the main changes as a result. Europeanization is defined from the EU point of you as the top-down process. It is also important to focus on intervening factors, which form the previously described changes. The Danish government is one of the most important actors in creating the Danish position. During the integration process the government has to adopt different strategies for the negotiation of European proposals, which was caused by a change in the decision-making process in the Coucil. Specificity of the Danish coordination system is characterized by the set up of the European Affairs Committee, which strengthens the power of the Danish parliament. The Europeanization of Danish political parties can be shown in the changes in their attitudes towards the EU. The Danish case is very particular because of European referenda that have to be announced when Danish sovereignty is transformed to the EU level. Europeanization is an unfinished process because of continual deepening and widening of the integration....
Problematic Identification with the EU - analysis of Danish euroscepticism
Hořejšová, Tereza ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Svobodný, Petr (referee) ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (referee)
The dissertation thesis analyses factors which are characteristic for Danish euroscepticism. It seeks an aswer to a question whether certain national specifics pre-determine "the Danish" version of euroscepticism. In previous research, it has not been very common to analyse national versions of public euroscepticism but the current academic knowledge about euroscepticism is still not satisfactory and in particular does not take into account the tender nuances in demonstration and origins of euroscepticism of each member state. However, as this thesis hypotheses, it is necessary to take the national eurosceptic specifics into account while designing the communication policy on EU issues. The thesis concludes that in the case of Denmark, the national specifics which have been identified as strong perception of national identity, referenda, EU opt-outs, specific political system and a formalised co- ordination system of EU affairs, serve as roots, i.e. not as a consequence, of Danish euroscepticism. Keywords European Union; Denmark; Euroscepticism; opt-outs; identity; public opinion; communication policy.

The thesis also deals with the question of the impact of the three Baltic States involvement in the Nordic cooperation in the 1990s. The answer is that the internal Nordic cooperation has been developing very intensively - it was demonstrated by the analysis of the Nordic cooperation in the 1990s in the main chapter - without any affecting of the Baltic States involvement in the main. On the contrary, the Baltic States involvement has brouhgt the external opportunity for the Nordic countries to integrate into the cooperation in the Baltic Sea region.

Lukeš, Pavel ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Hořejšová, Tereza (referee)
Diploma thesis "Nordic countries and their support of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on their way to European structures" deals with foreign policies of Denmark, Sweden and Finland towards three Baltic countries in the 1990s. The paper is focused on Danish, Swedish and Finnish bilateral support of three Baltic countries on their way to European structures, particularly to the EU. The thesis strives to explain a rationale and motives which were behind decisions of Nordic countries to help Baltic countries in the 1990s. Although the thesis is primarily focused on a development in the 1990s, a short part is also devoted to a historical development of the relations between Nordic and Baltic countries. This historical excursion helps to identify changes of Nordic foreign policies (Baltic policies) which occurred in the 1990s. The main proposition of this thesis is a statement that though there were several motives behind decisions of Nordic states to help Baltic countries, the main factor which caused high involvement of Denmark, Sweden and Finland in the Baltic Sea area were security related factors. The thesis also offers a summary of some motives which were behind high involvement of Nordic countries in the region and provides some similarities and differences in Baltic policies of Denmark, Sweden and...
