Comparison of rap lyrics contents in the USA and the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis deals with a comparison of the content of trap music lyrics in the USA and the Czech Republic. It examines eleven Czech and eleven US songs with the aim of finding out in which topics the lyrics from both countries differ. I hypothesize that the differences in the themes present in Czech and US rap song are due to different socio-cultural influences. The theory part deals with the definition of the basic concepts related to the topic, the history and development of the genre in both countries and the socio-cultural background which influenced the emergence of rap and it's subgenre trap. In addition, it also examines the rap audience, trying to define whether/how rap fans differ from the general population, and in doing so, aiming to provide a better understanding of the connection between the genre and its fans. The final theme discussed in the theory part are streaming services, mainly YouTube, which was used for the purposes of the research. In the empirical part, qualitative content analysis is used to answer the following research questions: (1) How does the frequency of themes contained in the most listened to songs written by Czech musicians and US musicians differ? Popular music as motivating element and means of acquiring listening skills in English language teaching at B1 level

This diploma thesis deals with the use of music and songs in teaching English as foreign language at B1 level. Its aims are the analysis of the song activities presented in various sources, creating the song activities, their pilotage in the classroom and subsequent evaluation. It is divided into five chapters. The theoretical part deals with listening comprehension as a skill, its relation to other skills, its definitions, reasons for teaching listening comprehension, its principles, approaches towards teaching listening comprehension and sources of listening comprehension activities. Furthermore, the development of language skills at intermediate level is presented and the essential parts introduces reasons for using songs in the development of listening comprehension skills, alternative use of music and songs and classification of song activities. The practical part covers the analysis of the song activities presented in three different course books at intermediate level and their comparison with the song activities presented in other sources. The research examines the application of the chosen song activities in practice and students' perception of them. . Vocabulary of current popular songs

This bachelor thesis, based on the comparison of the results of the TOP 50 charts for 2016, analyzes the vocabulary of Czech pop songs in 2016, namely the work of Ondřej Ládek. We explore the vocabulary layers, describes the meaning of words by analysis of twenty selected songs by Slza and Xindl X and examines these texts from the point of view of phrazeology. Theoretic literal concepts from the field of versology worked out marginally. In conclusion this bachelor thesis compare differencies in the work of Ondřej Ládek depending on project. The results of this work enable us to get to know the contemporary pop culture and the way it forms one of the most played Czech authors.
