Analytical calculations of flange joints
Polišenská, Anna ; Chalupa, Aleš (referee) ; Hůlka, Jiří (advisor)
This Master’s thesis deals with flange joints. A suitably designed flange joint (FJ) construction and installation is necessary to ensure the reliability of piping systems and machinery where these joints are used. The thesis describes the procedures of their design and assessment in terms of tightness, strength and durability. It focuses on the stiffness calculation of all components of FJ – primarily the stiffness of flanges, bolts and seals. The main part of the work was to create a computational program by using the Python language to determine the appropriate preload force in the bolts. The program uses the procedures described in the ČSN EN 1591-1 standard. The thesis describes computational algorithms of this program, verification of the program and its use in the assessment of FJ on a specific technical work – pressure vessel with adjacent piping. Verification was performed by comparing the acting force to the seals obtained from the computational program and the stress-strain analysis using the finite element method (FEM), where the load model in this stress-strain analysis included the preload force obtained from the computational program. The application of the pressure vessel computational program consisted in determining the preload forces for all FJs of this assembly. The last part describes the assessment of the most loaded FJ. Again, stress-strain state was evaluated using FEM and FJ was assessed for tightness, strength and durability using the NTD A.S.I. standard.
Optical measurement of deformations of flange joints
Schmidtová, Markéta ; Mendřický, Radomír (referee) ; Hurník, Jakub (advisor)
The diploma thesis addresses the topic of optical measurements of flange joints during tightening and thermal loading. Commercially available optical systems with decreasing invasiveness were compared in opportunity which offer to an industrial environment. Various conditions are evaluated in 3D (scanning, DIC) as well as in 2D (DIC). The data for evaluation of sensitivity and system accuracy together with the evaluation of the data range were obtained by the measurement. Data evaluation showed the same accuracy for 2D and 3D system and the possibility of quality inspection of the joint by assessing the inspection dimensions in operation.
Structural design of the high-pressure separator with focus on the flange connection
Šmarda, Radek ; Klučka, Ivan (referee) ; Lošák, Pavel (advisor)
The first part of the diploma thesis deals with research in the field of design of process apparatuses. The research continues describing the function, division and main parts of separators. The research part ends with a more detail overview of flange connections. The second part deals with the design and control calculations of the separator using ČSN EN 13445-3 with tightness-strength calculation of the main flange join using ČSN EN 1591-1. At the end of the second part, partial calculations are performed using finite element method in the ANSYS Workbench R2 program, which aim to verify the required tightness of the joint and describe the effect of the bolts tightening procedure on the gasket.
The flange gasket modification of TC SVO1 ion filter manhole on the VVER 440 NPP
Šnajdárek, Ladislav ; Fiedler, Jan (referee) ; Šen, Hugo (advisor)
This diploma thesis is engaged in replacement of gasket ion filter used in the ion filter of continuous cleaning TC SV01 of rector coolant in nuclear power plants with VVER 440 reactor. Original nickel gasket is replaced by kammprofile gasket with expanded graphite. Calculation results are compared with each other and are described as suggestions for further calculation. The first part included a detailed description of the primary coolant water chemistry, along with a description of the function and structure of ion filter.
Static Analysis of Parts of Thermoplastic Pipe Systems
Plášek, Jan ; Kuklík,, Pavel (referee) ; prof. Ing. Alois Materna, CSc., MBA (referee) ; Kytýr, Jiří (advisor)
Thermoplastic materials have significant nonlinear behaviour. The nonlinear behaviour is described by creep curves. The curves of creep modules are dependent on stress, temperature and time. The dissertation thesis deals with the approximation of the creep modules by Prony series. Subsequently three procedures are proposed to take account of creep modules. The proposed procedures are used in two applications. The first application deals with the ring stiffness value of a corrugated sewage pipe. The ring stiffness value is influenced by the creep modulus. The other one deals with a thermoplastic flange connection. The clamping force is dependent on the creep modulus of thermoplastics. The problems were solved by ANSYS program system.

Tightness evaluation of gasketed tubesheet
Trubač, Daniel ; Pernica, Marek (referee) ; Létal, Tomáš (advisor)
This master thesis focuses on the issue of tightness evaluation of gasketed tubesheet in U tube exchangers, which meets strength requirements of ČSN EN 13 445-3 and ČSN EN 1591-1 standards. It deals with the forces acting on the gasket when measuring the effects acting on the entire heat exchanger. A separate part is devoted to the calculation of the heat profile in the heat exchanger and verification of the strength of the heat exchanger. The final part introduces model of a heat exchanger, on which a possible approach to solving the tightness of the tubesheet in heat exchangers is presented. In thesis temperature field evaluation was conducted, the results of which were used in stress strain analysis, in order to obtain gasket contact pressure. Extreme gasket contact pressures were used to estimate leak rate limits.
The flange gasket modification of SG VVER 440 primary collector
Blažková, Eva ; Martinec, Jiří (referee) ; Šen, Hugo (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to address issues concerning the sealing of the lid for the primary collector within the steam generator (SG) of the nuclear power plant VVER 440. These steam generators are sealed in the original design by nickel rings. Modifying the existing method of sealing by a new type of sealing material, primarily from expanded graphite, can significantly reduce the pressure in the sealing surface and also stress in bolts and flanged joints. The new solution of sealing between the joint of collector and the lid should extend the life of joints and thus the nuclear and technical safety. The text is divided into the theoretical and computational part. A principle of the SG, the SG design, and a description of the joint and lid are mentioned in the theoretical part. The computational part shows calculations of the new joint, the original one, and comparison of both solutions in terms of technical and nuclear safety. The work contains drawing of the new joint.
Modelling of pressure equipment bolted flange connections
Kolátor, Matyáš ; Pernica, Marek (referee) ; Létal, Tomáš (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with computational modeling of flange connections. Due to its separability, bolted flange connections are a frequently used in piping systems or pressure vessels. For the right functionality of the connection, it is necessary to ensure the required tightness. In order to be able to describe the tightness, it is necessary to know the stresses and deformations in all parts of the connection. These days, standard calculation methods are at a high level of accuracy, on the other hand, in order to achieve this accuracy, they have to follow a lot of corrections, in which the original model based on the strength of material theory should be lost. The aim of bachelor thesis is to create computational models based on the strength of materials theory. Computational models are created to illustrate the application of strength of materials theory. At the end of the thesis, the results using several models will be summarized and compared.
Comparison of flange connections design
Hrbáček, Jan ; Dohnal, Miloslav (referee) ; Buzík, Jiří (advisor)
Flange connections are type of connections frequently used in industry. There are hight claims for their dimensioning, strength and tightness. The proper and exact design can be made by calculation or by choice of standardized components (flanges, bolts, nuts etc.) accordig to requirements established by standart. This Bachelor´s thesis occupies itself with qualitative comparison of proposals for the strength design of flanged conections according to ČSN EN 13445, AD 2000 Merkblatt and ASME Code standarts. The programming language called Python is used in this Bachelor´s thesis.
