Representation of National Minorities in the Parliaments of the Post-Yugoslav States

Skúmanie štátov bývalej Juhoslávie je vďaka nesustále pretrvávajúcemu napätiu a sporom medzi jednotlivými etnickým skupinami naďalej aktuálnou témou. Nesporne dôležitým faktorom pri zmierňovaní medzietnického napätia je inkluzívna politika voči národnostným menšinám, ktorá môže predchádzať pocitu vylúčenia a marginalizácii menšinových záujmov najmä legálnou podporou reprezentácie národnostných menšín v parlamente. Takáto forma reprezentácia dáva národnostnej menšine možnosť podieľať sa na tvorbe politiky, rozhodovacom procese a deľbe moci a získať sebavedomie, že jej záujmy sú zastupované. Práve reprezentácia národnostných menšín v štátoch bývalej Juhoslávie je vpredmetom výskumu tejto bakalárskej práce, pričom na reprezentáciu je nahliadané najmä z hľadiska toho, akým spôsobom získavajú národnostné menšiny kreslá v parlamente a aký vplyv má volebný systém a jeho špecifické opatrenia na výsledné zastúpenie národnostných menšín v legislatívnom orgáne. Hlavným cieľom práce je tieto podmienky nadobúdania deskriptívnej reprezentácie navzájom porovnať a zároveň porovnať vplyv jednotlivých volebných systémov a špeciálnych opatrení využívaných v danej oblasti na mieru zastúpenia národnostných menšín v jednotlivých parlamentoch. Dům národnostních menšin v Praze - impulzy k uskutečnění záměru a realizace projektu

The representatives of the national minorities in Prague iniciated the establishing of the centre of organizations of the national minorities in Prague already after 1993. The idea of creating the House of the national minorities has been than realized in the cooperation between Prague's Comittee for National Minorities and the Government Council for National Minority Affairs. Funding for the reconstruction of the appropriate building was provided by the government from the state budget and, on the other hand, the larger part of the costs was paid from the city budget. The building was handed over to the use of the City's administration as the headquarters of Prague's minority organizations in 2007 and a centre of their social and cultural life.

Z historie pokusů o vzdělávání slovenských dětí v ČR ve slovenštině. Slovenština a Slovensko v pražských mezinárodních konferencích středoškoláků

Příspěvek popisuje Slováky v českých zemích od vzniku Československa a jejich vztah ke slovenštině, který také z důvodů chápání příslušnosti k národu českkoslovenskému, složení sociálnímu postavení místních Slováků a jejich přijetí českého prostředí, nebyl vyhraněný. Po roce 1945 početné skupiny Slováků a navrátivších se slovenských krajanů rovněž slovenské školy nepožadovaly. Pouze v centru migrací ze Slovenska – v Karviné – vznikla v roce 1956 Základní škola. Další školy se slovenským vyučování v Praze, včetně osmiletého gymnázia, nenašly žáky. Zaniklo i nepovinné vyučování slovenštiny, které v devedesátých letech organizoval Klub slovenské kultury. Od roku 2004 Dokumentační středisko slovenské menšiny pořádá každým rokem mezinárodní konferenci slovenských středoškolíků a jejich hostů s tematikou Slovenska, jeho historie, kultury, reálií, osobností. Studenti přednášejí své práce ve slovenštině i v češtině. Setkávají se Slováci žijící v ČR, potomci Slováků v ČR, slovenští středoškoláci ze Slovenska. Přínosem je setkávání, poznávaní a znění originální slovenštiny.

National Minorities and the Czech Border Regions in the Second Half of the 20th Centruy (the Example of the Former Vejprty District)

This study traces the development of the Czech border regions after the WWII. The author discusses the situation of national minorities in the border regions and the information on local industry held by the government and representatives of the Soviet Union. Using the specific example of the former Vejprty district, the author analyzes archive materials to demonstrate the processes of expulsion or migration of the national minorities and the settlement of formerly German border areas by new inhabitants. The paper also assesses the consequences of these events for the future social and economic development of this particular border region.

Influence of possible EU membership on democratization process in Romania after 1989 year

After 1989 a lot of non-democratic regimes crumbled in Central and Eastern Europe. These regimes had started their way towards democracy and its consolidation. This way differed case by case but some aspects that affected them were common. One of the most important aspects is European Union, a strong international actor and a possibility for future development for these countries. This paper tries to examine the influence of possible future accession of Romania into the EU on its democratic consolidation. It is mainly focused on issues of national minorities and their protection and on extreme nationalist political parties and their position within Romanian society. Additional topics are democratic consolidation in broader sense and Europeanization. The conclusion shows that Romanian democracy in studied fields has become more consolidated and the influence of the EU o this change can be traced.

Situation of the Roma in the First Czechoslovak Republic

This thesis Position of Roma minority in the First Czechoslovak Republic focuses on position of ethnic and national minorities in the First Czechoslovak Republic between 1918 and 1938, specifically on position of Roma minority. Many scholars have already focused on the topic of position of minorities in the First Czechoslovak Republic, but only few focused their work on position of Roma minority. This topic still remains quite unexpolred. In the first part of my thesis, I will focus my research on disprooving claim, that we can consider Czechoslovakia as consociational democracy, by apllication of four basic consociational mechanisms on the political system of the First Czechoslovak Republic. In the second part of my research I will focus on position of Roma minority in Czechoslovak society by analyzing origins of Roma minority, laws focused on Roma minority and position of political parties and majority society towards Roma minority.
