dissertation thesis: Construction of motherhood and feminity in the three generations Author: Mgr. Romana Marková Volejníčková This dissertation aims to analyze the norms of "good" motherhood, discourses, and social practices related to these norms, and their connection and interrelationship with the issue of agency and women's/mothers' free choice under specific conditions over the course of three defined periods. In particular, in this study, I focused on the prevalent conditions (be it legislation, i.e. family and social policies, expert discourses in the field of psychology, demography, pediatrics, etc., but also societal expectations of women within family and employment) during the three defined periods. I analyzed how individual standards of "good" motherhood and "proper" child care are defined and conceived under these circumstances, in which the interviewed mothers carried out their motherhood projects. Furthermore, I focused on what choices mothers could make in these normative conditions, what choices they considered available to them and realistic in each one period, and whether some of the mothers' personal traits may have bolstered or diminished their ability to make informed choices concerning their motherhood project. In the three periods examined, the manifestations of biopower...
Step-Motherhood in Czech Context
Skálová, Barbora ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is stepmotherhood, specifically its implementation within relationships between women and men who already have a child or children. The basic motive of my work is to identify the construction of several conceptions that are considered natural, given or unchangeable, and which often represent very specific norms, especially dependent on gender. I define stepmotherhood here as a concept that in practice violates many cultural norms and which has the potential to enrich critical discussions about the family, reproduction and motherhood, and parenthood in general. My search is based on information gained through narrative interviews, which complement theoretical discussions representing the constructivist paradigm.

This is a qualitative analysis, propped on interviews with experienced directors of elementary and secondary schools. In observed period, these executives both personally and professionally experienced the effects of legislative changes in education. During the research, narrative interviews were used, analysis was based on grounded theory. Causal conditions, the phenomenon of interference sectoral management, intervening conditions (risk of anomie, the politicization of education, expertise versus bureaucracy in education management, education and support of school principals) and their effects on the central category were researched. During the research, the central category became school autonomy, and it's range, including the dynamics of change in the observed period, were researched. Thesis contains a description of the researched variables and evaluation of their relations with emphasis on relations to the dominant category. The result is a hypothesis (theory) anchored in...
