Analysis of the Official Israeli Discourse during the Second Intifada: Categorisation and Legitimisation
Záhora, Jakub ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Drulák, Petr (referee)
This thesis named "Analysis of the Official Israeli Discourse during the Second Intifada: Legitimization and Categorization" is concerned with discursive construction of Palestinian terrorism and Israeli security policies by Israeli officials in the period following 2000. The paper draws on works which refuse to perceive language as neutral communication means to describe the social reality, and instead approach it as a tool to impose and maintain social and political inequality and dominance of some groups over others. These theoretical foundations underpin the following research which examines legitimation strategies employed by Israeli officials in order to justify Israeli controversial measures aiming to quell Palestinian terrorism during the Second Intifada. The paper identifies several discursive schemes through which Israeli state representatives purported to legitimize Israeli security policies that were harshly criticized at the time. The basic strategy is to depict and categorize Israelis as peace yearning people who relentlessly offer far-reaching compromises aiming to achieve calm, which proposals are being adamantly rejected by Palestinians whose only reaction is resort to terror. The thesis further deals with Israeli officials' reframing of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a part...

Aulehlová, Lucie
Aulehlová, L. The analysis of tourism in Israel. Bachelor thesis. Brno: Mendel University, 2017. In this bachelor thesis I focus on investigating tourism data from Israel. I deal with the causality between the political and safety situation in Israel and tourism. The research question is whether terrorism influences tourism in the negative way and if yes, how much. In the first part of my thesis I deal with the determination of the studied period and the general terms which are related to the events that are crucial for understanding the situation. I also deal with the meaning of tourism for this area, the most visited places in Israel and crisis management in tourism. In the analytical part I investigate the causality by five main indicators. The data is from a period of 21 years, particularly the years 1995-2015.

Nevyhoštěný, Martin ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
Thesis titled "The Change of Media image of Israel in Czech Press at the Turn of 80's and 90's" deals with the construction of the media image of Israel in the Rudé právo and Mladá fronta dailies using examples of news about the Lebanon War in 1982 and the outbreak of the first Intifada in 1987. The findings are then compared with media image of Israel in the Mladá fronta Dnes and Lidové noviny dailies and weekly newspa-per Respekt during the Gulf War in 1991 and the signing of the Israeli- Palestinian peace treaty in Oslo in 1993. Research is focused on vocabulary of the news and on historical and political context of Czech-Israeli relations in the eighties and nineties. There is also description of researched newspapers and Czechoslovak media environment and jour-nalistic production in this period. The research method used is qualitative content analy-sis. Media images comparison is based on the selection of specific excerpts from news-paper articles, with the emphasis on a wide range of thematic coverage in the examined periods. List of all researched articles is attached. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Comparative study of Palestinian intifadas
Bubrlová, Markéta ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
The Middle East conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians dates back to the time of the State of Israel's formation. This work focuses on two significant periods of the Israeli- Palestinian conflict - the Palestinian Intifadas. The primary objective of the work is to compare the differences between the two conflicts. Conflicting databases try to compare in intensity mainly by the number of victims of the two conflicts. Next we focus on the actions of individual players in the conflict, mainly the Israeli government headed by the Prime Minister, opposition Palestinian groups and organizations and other countries. Furthermore, we look at the topics that were discussed during both Intifadas. By comparing these factors we try to find out whether the two conflicts differ, and that during the two decades in which they were fought they somehow significantly changed the nature of the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. I suppose that despite some changes that conflict bought about during the period 1987-2005, the solution is still not yet in sight.
